Funny, I have been playing the game just fine.

Kinda like global warming, it snowed so global warming is a lie. I was lucky enough to not be on during the lag spikes so it mustn't be true.

Except global warming as presented by the "experts" is a lie.

At any rate, I've been having some laggy nights recently, and I never had this problem before July 4th.

Both last night and tonight have been laggy for me (I just logged out because of it in fact).

And just when I thought the lag was fixed.

Same here. Last night was horrible with 999+ spikes every minute or so. Looks like the fix was temporary.

After jumping through all of the customer service hoops, they've just dug their heels in blaming my ISP:

"I'm very sorry to say we have reached the limit of our ability to support you in your issue. At this time the best recommendation I can provide is to reach out to your ISP for further assistance with resolving this matter."

Nice enough people, but it seems it's time to give up and move on.

Once a node starts dropping packets, it isn't going to drop just it's own packets. It is going to have a chance to drop any packet that goes through it.

That's absolutely right. Unfortunately, the ESO servers themselves are conveniently set to block all ICMP requests, so there's actually no way to diagnose fully. The best we have to go on is that last hop before it hits their servers. The wild latency I see at that hop is actually independent of the packet loss, too. The packet loss is not present 100% of the time -- the wild return time is.

Yeah, the ISP that they use down there seems to be blocking ICMP. It is a giant black hole from AT&T all the way to ZeniMax. This was not always the case.

One would assume the $15/mo he pays to Zenimax...

I'd be remiss if I didn't add to my previous statement about Zenimax not fixing the problem and it being time to give up. I got one last response from customer service before they marked my ticket about all of this as "solved" (which it obviously is not, but the troubleshooting has obviously run its course):

"Upon researching this issue further our developers are currently investigating reports of some players encountering higher than normal latency issues due to the connect path they are using. As this is something our developers will be working with ISPs to resolve I'm unfortunately unable to provide a timeframe as to when exactly this will be permanently resolved however rest assured that we will look in to this further."

I suggested that put the "We know it sucks and we're trying to fix it" banner back up so at least people can cling to some home that things will eventually work.

@Vipstaakki yes, we pay them money and in turn they deliver what's called customer service and a functioning game. If you ever start a business these are good things to understand. Anyway they've been quite forthcoming on this and other things lately, more so than usual. The new patch notes look great and hopefully this is a turning point for TESO.

    Hopefully :-)

But it's laggy again for me.

I really, really expected the devs to chime in. The game has been unplayable for up to a week for some of us and we get nothing? How is that okay? @ZOS_GinaBruno can you at least pop in and say something like, "Hey loyal players, we're aware there's a big issue with unplayable lag and we're working on it. We apologize for the inconvenience." Is that so hard? What happened to this game?

It's there m.o. They did the same thing in 2014. Right after launch, they introduced the lighting patch, it broke the game, and they took all of July off leaving it broke AF. On a side note, that lighting patch also had a "fix" for botters. That introduced the lag we all now have in Cyrodiil. And instead of rolling back the botting "fix" they removed the deer to combat the lag...

@Morgul667 Me too! Im getting real bad lag spikes right now, gonna run a trace ping and send it in. Its not as bad as last time but still making content unplayable at certain times. Im running through vMA for the first time now and all of a sudden my games pausing for 3+ seconds. On a good note Ive just about breezed through (20-30 deaths) the first four rounds. Not as bad as I was expecting on my stam dk, so far...

Nice ! Good for you :-) But the true challenges starts on round 5.

Round 6,7 and 9 are quite the challenge the first times too.

Last boss fight is easier once you know the mechanics but unforgiving, Any mistake and you die so lag is not forgiving there.

    Good luck for that !

Hope the lag gets fixed !!

May or may not be unrelated but, I think the instance of vma stage 6 (Daedra spider) has problems server side. I can play fine in every stage but systematically stage 6 has lag spikes (I can flawless all the stages, die here 10 times in a normal day because of that; and everybody knows is not specially challenging stage.).

I play from China so any slight variation is more noticeable around here.

5 times I've been dropped, been home from work for 1 and a half hours.

Pretty sure this what is defined as "unplayable lag"

Where are you zos? What do you have to say for yourselves?

That was exactly the point of my last sentence, lordrichter. I'm a little confused as to why every user isn't having the same problem given that everyone has to run through that node.

You may find it's actually the node before that one that is having the actual problems, there's two things can go wrong with data pings between servers, received data and transmitted data, a server may be perfectly capable of receiving data, but have issues transmitting it to the next one in the line, but in things like pingplotter it will show as fine because the ping text primarily detects if the server has received data transmitted from the previous server, rather than telling you if it has sent it yet, if you know what i mean. So it's possible that it's actually the server before that node which is not sending the data properly (or even the cabling between them), what is the server hop before the one showing issues? and does everybody go through that one two? or is it the gat node a nexus point? That would explain how people from one area have issues and people from others don't.

Belidos is correct, here. In my case, without a VPN my route runs through Cogent's stuff directly into AT&T's, then into the ESO server. This is what it looked like last night (and it goes downhill from here):

    pp_capture.JPG

That second hop is just my CM600 modem which can't be configured to respond to ICMP. The last hop is the ESO servers, which are purposefully configured to not respond to ICMP. There's no packet loss on the Cogent nodes, but that's not always the case. During peak hours there's often some there as well.

By all rights, I should have about a 50ms response from the server. The best I've ever seen in game is 100ms, but that's only for a few seconds at a time. Thanks the the wild latency of the Garland node and the omnipresent packet loss, it's usually fluctuating back and forth from 250ms at best to 999+ and bringing with it all of the skill delay and rubberbanding one would expect.

Laggy last night, very large skill delays, ridiculously long loading screens in Cyrodiil...it's back to doing what it was doing last week.

I live about an hour from Dallas.

Deimos - Templar / Grand Warlord
    Sias - Sorcerer / Prefect
Short answer is DKs likely won't be seeing a ton of changes before we go live; this class is still quite powerful (as it should be being a tank), even after some of the adjustments we've made to other classes and abilities.

DK IS NOT JUST A TANK CLASS. #PLAYTHEWAYYOUWANT

The CS guy told me that the "developers" were aware of reports of problems along the path and would investigate. I'm not holding my breath, though. This has been going on since at least the launch of Morrowind.

(I put that in quotes because I'm not sure the devs would be the folks to be dealing with this at all.)
