This is why I chuckle when someone says the Internet was originally designed to survive a nuclear war. Yeah, not so much. Someone trips over a cable at level 3 and I wind up stuck in blocking pose while a boss pummels my face.

It was also originally designed primarily for Strategic Air Command. It's gotten slightly more complicated since then, so I'd wager the claim would likely have held up at the time it was made.
Even on the internet, clear communication is important; it can be the difference between "helping your Uncle Jack off a horse" and "helping your uncle jack off a horse"; the difference between "knowing your s***" and "knowing you're s***".

Not a single EU person i know has problems :) ofcourse that doesnt mean its all fine, but ey... Cant be "simply the servers either".. Especially when 2 players o the same server instance have different experience with it.

Agreeing with thr most probable aka same story as above post

I haven't had any lag issues, I'm in freaking southafrica and on the NA server no less.

    giphy.gif

    I'm on the EU server.
I'm from SA and my 40k damage toon has been reduced to matts harvesting and home decorating since I barely put out 20k damage because of the lag. Bear in mind I have no vanity pets out, all combat text off, even the buff indicators and I still teleport everywhere until death. (dungeons and especially trials) PVE I don't mind lag (which is way less than dungeon/trials) for I anyway play without chest piece in PVE, otherwise its no fun melting everything like a god, beeing able to die as well makes it a bit more fun. Anyway as I understand the NA servers are much worse than EU. To me it does not matter if its NA or EU. NONE SHOULD EVER LAG...

Guys, if you spent just 2 seconds thinking critically, you'll see that this problem is not on the users end, it's on ZOS's end. Too many people, in too many different locations, having too many problems. This AT&T node in Texas that you guys keep bringing up, it's responsible for lag in England and elsewhere? That's a heck of a node.
Even if you want to argue that it is this node, how do you explain that other games aren't having these lag issues? I can jump onto Battlefield 1 (or 4), Infinite Warfare, Warframe, GTA 5, Gears of War, Killing Floor 2, pretty much every other game out there, and not have these huge lag spikes?
Some nights are better than others, but this is still a major issue.
All people want is communication. Don't wait 2 weeks to tell us that you're aware of the character creation bug (7/8 slots), don't wait a week to tell us that you're getting reports of lag spikes, stuff like that.

Keep in mind that there is not one single lag problem going on right now. There are a couple of different lag problems going on right now. Some of them ZOS can address, but some of them it is not clear whether ZOS can address them.

I don't buy this AT&T node excuse either, because I can speedtest to a server in Dallas with 14 ping, shouldn't that also be affected by this mystery node?

Sooo much QQ'ing over what amounts to the FirstThird-Worldest of First Third World Problems. At both, I've had problems - Dallas (50ms - 150ms) and Boston (90ms-180ms), and I absolutely want it to get fixed.

Slight alteration on my part, for a different perspective your worst ping is 50ms less than the best I've ever gotten. Count yourself lucky and imagine how bad it is for some of us (looking at you Oceanic, Australian, South American and African players)

Yeah, logged in on my lunch break a few minutes ago and while it seemed a bit better... its still pretty bad. Also to all the idiots who keep saying "L2Network!" and such... why would it work fine (well you know as good as it could) before and then suddenly take a dump lately?

It's ZoS, not us. Doesn't take a mathematician to understand this.

Or it's the ISPs. Which, if AT&T is the common vector here, starts to sound a lot like this really might not be ZOS's fault.

    XFinity.
I run 163Mbps and a 31 ping to Dallas from Virginia.
My game was unplayable like everyone elses, at the same times everyone elses was garbage.

you dont have to have ATT to have your connection routed through their nodes. It is, in fact, a bad ATT node in texas that is causing this problem. The node is dropping packets like crazy and timing out before regaining connectivity. You can fix this problem with a VPN... link on how to do that is here:

    https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/357643/guide-how-to-fix-the-current-lag-spike-issue-using-a-vpn

Not for Xbox or PS4 user though, correct?

    Again, ZoS, fix this.

If you want to know if the ATT node is causing you problems, do this:

    1. Bring up your command prompt (type CMD in Cortana for windows 10 users)
    2. Type "tracert 198.20.198.110
    3. Wait for it to finish

See if you are routing to the ZOS servers through an ATT node.

If you are not routing through an ATT node, then obviously the ATT node is not your problem and you can continue to blame ZOS.

While I don't think it is an AT&T node, be aware that there are multiple paths into Dallas provided by multiple companies. Most often, I seem to use the AT&T route to get to Dallas. This is why I do not think it would be AT&T. While we call it a "node issue", the recent lag issues might be caused by a recent change in the topology of the internet, it could also be a change in some firewall system to prevent DDoS, or it could be a DDoS against something upstream from ZOS. It could even be a change in some contract between two companies.

They key point is that the point of failure for the recent increase in lag and connection problems with the NA servers, where ever it is, has to allow a lot of traffic to get to the ESO servers normally, while causing problems with a number of other players, but probably a minority of players. Why a minority? The messages from ZOS tell me that there is no indication that ZOS was really aware of the scope of the problem. They would have been if 3/4ths of their users were impacted, for example. They would have also been aware if it was something in their system that was causing a problem, like the megaserver being overloaded.

This seems to be confirmation that the issue is a node / routing point. Or at least that ZOS believes so.

Nope. If it's a different server, hosted by a different company, your packets could be routed differently.

    For an example:
I went to Speedtest.net and picked the first server I found for Dallas (Softlayer Technologies), hit the googles and found the IP address for it. Ran a trace and all my data pinged and went to it fine with no packet loss. Never did it touch an ATT node like people are reporting.

Then I found the IP address for the ESO server via one of their help articles and did the same thing.
My information makes it to a series of ATT nodes and then packet loss/time out.

Thank you. Because it really is awful right now... and just had to coincide with the free trial which just makes it all the more annoying because players are going to be tempted to put up with the atrocious lag so as to take advantage of the limited-time content.

It's nice to know you're at least working on it. And please keep us updated as to your progress.

Hey guys, just want to reiterate what was put on the Bethesda Support Twitter account that we are actively investigating the latency issues.

How do you expect someone that does not use twitter to get that info?

Thanks for telling us but you guy have to realize that most people come to the boards for this type if information.

To give you all an update, one of the routes we identified as a problem was recently fixed by the internet service provider. If you're continuing to have issues with latency, please submit a ticket with Support and include your traceroute information (you can find instructions on how to find that here).

It has to be on some of your service provider ends, I run less that 90 latency in Cyrodiil, haven't tried Battle Grounds yet but I would assume its the same. Nor am I experiencing lag.

I pay extra for high speed broadband but its worth it. I clock 109/10 at all times. (Edit: Well 100+, but Ive been assured its around 109)

To give you all an update, one of the routes we identified as a problem was recently fixed by the internet service provider. If you're continuing to have issues with latency, please submit a ticket with Support and include your traceroute information (you can find instructions on how to find that here).

I can confirm that what ever you/they did it seems to have fixed my lag problems. Game has been running great all day today.

@ZOS_GinaBruno thanks for the update. Maybe a long shot, but could you define "recently fixed" a bit better? Are we talking within the last 8 hours, the last 24 hours, or more?

Yah the lag spikes of 400-999+ every 20 seconds or so seem to be completely gone now.
