Is ZOS Ever Going To Fix Cyro Lag?

Just a simple question. Cyro gets so few patches. They just finally fixed the NPC skills and this has been an issue since ancient times, so are we just stuck with AvAvA as is? For example, I live in SE Asia for work and play from there, with my brother who plays from NA. Yesterday he was at 25fps on low graphics settings for no reason, no router/computer restarts would change it. On the other hand, I was at 40-60 fps from Asia, makes no sense. Then today it completely reverses, he's getting 40-60 and Im getting 10-20. All I can conclude is that this is a server issue. I know fps is supposed to be PC based but the way its functioning makes so sense for it to only be on our end. What it feels like is that some players just get lucky with their connection from day to day. I know we all put up with it because when its fun, its really fun, but come on ZOS.

    They try to fix that lag since nearly 3 years, but they still haven't found the golden piece of code. It is a very complicate thematic deep in the basics of their engine, so it could be going better in the next 3 years or not. Nobody knows it. But what i know, they try to fix it.

    Long answer, yes but it's going to take time with lots of changes and iterations. However if EVE Online has taught me anything it's that as soon as you reach a new stable limit, the players will push it and make it unstable again.

    Unlikely that the lag will cease anytime soon...or at all.

    PvP will be fine when all PvPers finally get sick of the constant stonewalling and lies and barely if any real progress made to combat lag, then there will be barely no lag at all

    Based on the history of ESO, I doubt it. Cyrodiil has been very low priority since 2014. The fact Trials and Battlegrounds are limited to 12 players might suggest ZOS is nowhere close to lag-free large scale combat. At least based on how the game is currently designed. It might be that ESO combat is inefficient because gameplay and abilities are fundamentally designed for 12 player content.

    But who know what the future holds. Perhaps ZOS will change direction or may even have a major Cyrodiil revamp on an internal roadmap.

    It won't happen, but I would love to see Cyrodiil and IC spun off as a stand alone title with its own team and budget. I think that ESO PVE is generally repulsive to the kind of gamer looking for an AvA experience. I think Cyrodiil would be much more popular without the burdenous, boring PVE grinds and PVE-centric game design.

    Nope. Not until They re-write the netcode to use UDP

    TCP is a TERRIBLE choice for a game like ESO especially one with a real time combat system with no cooldowns. Since TCP requires guaranteed packet delivery it will lag no matter what. There is a reason most games use UDP. If you search my past history posts I had a very large write up about this

    since it appears they have no interest in moving to UDP they will never really fix the lag problem in the game.

    If only. ZOS probably does not get that money. My guess is that, because it is related to VR, Skyrim, Doom, and Fallout got that money. If they have even received the money.

    They'd have to revert part of the "Lighting Patch" (1.2) from 3 years ago. It included a botting fix that wrecked Cyrodiil and it has yet to recover.

    Holy crap I never knew this! Has a dev ever responded with why they chose to go with TCP? That seems as silly as using TCP for voice traffic.

    If ZOS hadn't fired its in-house engineers/developers they might have been able to fix the lag in Cyro. But since they outsource all development to various third parties now it'll never happy with the spaghetti code that goes into each new patch.

    TCP was simply a poor choice for a game of this scale. UDP would have been a much better way to go. It doesn't appear they have any intentions of changing this though. Not that I have saw anyways.

    It has gotten a little bit better since 2015, but its still not where it should be. I am not going to say its all bad, its obvious they are trying to fix things...I just don't see how they can fully fix it as long as they are using TCP.

    Best chance for Cyrodiil is for Zos to include it as a priority in one of the major game updates. I wouldn't mind an ultra vanilla update replacing one DLC this or next year.

    It's pretty sad to see zos never reply or fix cyri lag. If there is a rare reply along the lines of "working as intended" or a "wow never saw that till just now cause we don't test before we launch it, but hey let's not prioritize that fix"
