They'd have to revert part of the "Lighting Patch" (1.2) from 3 years ago. It included a botting fix that wrecked Cyrodiil and it has yet to recover.

This is so true, since that patch and AOE caps the servers have lagged terribly. AOE caps are silly, the amount of extra data that needs to be exchanged to enable the caps wrecked the game as far as lag in cyro goes. Before these changes there was 0 lag in Cyrodil. Bad players who couldn't understand not to stand in red circles caused this change with constant crying in these forums.

Allot of good guilds left the game because of this carebear attitude to pvp and aoe.

Only way they can fix the lag is to abandon cp. it's that simple. Go play sotha sil. No lag what's so ever. So the shirt is no. They can't and won't just accept it. Would require a deep level code rewrite. They won't do it.

Holy schnikes a player thats been here long enough they remember what caused the lag to start. Its easy, revert that lighting patch, and get rid of AOE caps to reduce calculations.

Oh and get rid of the deer and bug zergs that are lagging out all of cyrodiil. Oh wait.

Frankly, ive never met this player or read any of his/her other posts but I gotta tell you, he/she is a friggin genius.

So lets move on, this was on in the background on an endless loop as we spammed eye of the flame on AD nubs this evening on ales bridge and the server crashed. You're eating the lag nubs....

    Wooly bully baby.

Not necessarily, when the zergs start their thing Sotha lags. Maybe not for everyone but for me a some friends on the D.C. side it definitely does.

    Nah, that's complete bs.

I went to check out Sotha Sil a few nights and every time it was just as bad if not worse than Vivec with locked pops.

My impression is that server-side lag is caused by all of the Level 50's spamming their fancy effects. Or, something like that. It is not due to Champion Points, it is due to the number of interactions between characters in the area overloading the server. I avoided the worst of the lag by playing only in the toddler campaign, where Level 50's were not allowed and fewer people had these sorts of skills. Even then, if things got crazy, so did the lag. The game has changed since then. I don't know if that still happens in the Level 49 and lower campaigns, since I have no more toddlers that I want to play in Cyrodiil.

Lag in PvP started with the patch that introduced the post processing and new lighting overhaul. I forget which that was. 1.2 or something.

It's PvP's biggest downer. With Load screens being a close second. There's little worse than releasing to a camp only to be dead again once you finally get through the load screen.

ZoS has only taking baby steps like removing deer, removing some calculations from abilities, stuff like that which is akin to tearing one page out of War and Peace.

They are either unwilling or unable to make a major investment in PvP because their target demographics is getting new players to buy stuff from the Crown Store.

With the direction they have gone since Morrowind, it seems that ZoS will try to "fix" the problem by pushing PvP toward no CP.

Looking at Morrowind, they are heavily investing in small scale PVP. The 1x1 duels from One Tamriel were just the start. The 4x4x4 Battlegrounds allows them to tune the game performance to small groups. Ability and skills balancing will be more focused on small scale, once they get a chance to see what players are doing. Once they get the queuing stuff resolved, and I think they will, the Battlegrounds will be the new home of PVP in the game.

Meanwhile, nothing is apparently happening on the Cyrodiil front.

No way ..... the vast majority of players in this game do not PVP they PVE that being said .. The learning curve is pretty steep on PVP large group PVP gives those players time to get adjusted to PVP if they ever do.... What I'm saying is battle grounds might be the most competitive (ability/small man) fighting in the game ... but if they replace large scale PVP ....PVP numbers in general will plumet in PVP...
I think ZOS miscalculated on this one ... With numbers come money

In my guild alone 50% of the players will never step foot in non CP its the point of the matter with them.... In my larger guild that has some large scale PVP members in it they also said they will never go to a battle ground if they want that type of game they will play a first person shooter.... Battle grounds will never be as big as Cyrodil it was tried in DAOC the grandfather of PVP in this game..... It was somewhat popular but never achieved what it was suppose to....

I think this is bad decision if you are right ..... By the way my guild is a small man guild of 8 to 10 players we run about 4 to 6 people in PVP....

If Capture the Relic and avoiding fighting players just to quick cap objective flags is ZoS's grand plan for PvP in the future, then ZoS's team is more clueless than I thought.
