I hope we'll get to see more in-game scenes, but I'm afraid they'll just recut the CGI trailer because it has more mass appeal.
Alandrol Sul: He's making another Numidium?!?
Vivec: Worse, buddy. They're buying it.

Im not sure if the superbowl is the audience we want. I personally love Snooker and UFC. If they spend money on superbowl they are more promoting their Company than this game, maybe ES single playing games too.

WHAT?!!! The superbowl advert isn't about attracting new players, it is about the prestige of having a superbowl advert. It is a different kind of advertising, putting an advert out during the superbowl is a way if saying "we are a big deal". Sometimes that can attract new customers, but I can't imagine many sports fans will make a mental note about this game. I maybe wrong, but I think a child could have come up with a better advertising strategy than this vanity project.

    Vanity ?
I think that ESO being an MMO, the message that "we're strong, trust us, the servers aren't going down anytime soon, you can invest long-term in our MMO" makes a lot of sense.
Remember when crown crates came out and many people (here) automatically assumed that ZOS was on the verge of bankrupcy...
    Jim_Pipp wrote: »
I really want this game to succeed, but once again I worry the money I spent supporting the development of this game has gone on a "million reasons to play" or a holiday competition or some other lottery/ tax write off that only appeals to idiots and is only accessible to a few countries.

If you want to be sure that your money is invested back into the product or service, you should only buy from/donate to non-profit organizations. In the profit business, you have no say in this - maybe your money goes straight in the pockets of the shareholders. When you buy/sub to ESO, you buy a product/service. You don't "support a game". Because you have no clue (and no right to know) whether your money actually supports the game or goes somewhere else.

I think they will put a new Ad in this superbowl spot and not this Morrowind trailer.
I mean, what is a random supposed to think about 2 dark skinned people hunting another fat dark skinned person who are getting attack by robots ? Nah, this would be a bad strategy and this trailer does in no way express ESO. They will come up with something better.

Wtf is up with the sports bashing. Some guy even said it was a like getting payed to play a children's game. Seriously, a children's game? Have you seen esports? The amount of irony is too damn high! If alot of people watch a certain sport/videogame/etc. It's gonna bring in money and the participators get alot of dough (in relation to the amount of people watching). Didn't somebody just win a CS:GO tournament where the prize pool was around 1 million dollars? Hypocracy all around.

Also, I played Football (the American kind) for 8 years and am a huge nerd when it comes to video- and boardgames. Alot of my teammates was aswell.

Good on Zenimax for getting air time during thè most watched sports event in the world. Almost certain to get alot of new players into the game.

No pretty sure this was done because of really good revenue flow and the metrics/belief that they haven't hit their earnings potential yet.

Perhaps because they know that their target audience is men between the ages of 14 and 35ish.

And they thought "Hmm... what do men between the ages of 14 and 35 watch at this time of the year?" and then someone replied "I dunno, perhaps SuperBowl" and so they went and bought a SB ad.

What has the Superb Owl got to do with anything?

Seriously though, I will be watching SB51, but here in the UK they cut out the ads so I will not see it that way.

I suspect zone chat will be keeping me appraised of the score regardless, making any need to watch the game unnecessary.

Even with the corporate prestige, the ads are still considered a nationwide product launch and a safe hedge against projected income.

I know a little too much unwritten inside history about Super Bowl XL's big loser, American HomeHealth. Had a bit of a nostalgia nightmare last night, if those can actually be a thing.

I know bad, and ZOS is nowhere near there.

It's just pure ignorance from most people here at this point.

I don't know how people would complain and disagree with putting a commercial during one of the most watched sporting events in the entire world, but apparently the ESO community was up to the task.

This will give a ton of exposure to the game.

So ZOS can afford to take out an advertisement on the Superbowl yet can't seem to afford to give us all a free costume or dlc from time to time?

You guys are such losers! Talking about the Superbowl like it's a bunch of losers screaming at the tv, with a bunch of sweaty guys grabbing eachother! How about a bunch of losers that don't leave their computer to go outside, screaming at pre programmed monsters, with no physical contact from another human being! I'd say you guys are the outliers here.

Anyways, it shows how big ESO is getting.

BTW, most people aren't really into football like that, they just like getting together with friends and having something to get overly excited about. Try it.

    Hopefully its not live action...........

Yall watching the superbowl to see the commercial?

Might bring in some NEWBIES lol.

This clarifies what I thought; Zos has no idea who plays mmos. The massive amount of money spent on a superbowl ad, could've bought them a lot of ads on a channel more likely to be watched by a gamer. 5.5mil for a 30sec slot.
Maybe the 5 mil could've bought them a better server that doesn't lag out constantly.

Except a spot at the SuperBowl isn't "advertising" anymore. It's corporate communication at this stage. The message isn't "buy this product", it's "we're a big, powerful, healthy, rich, profitable, long-lasting, solid and reliable company". Whether it's true or not is a different story, but that's the message, directed not only at customers or potential customers, but also at investors and competitors.
    esotoon wrote: »
Just curious (not American) but is there a large cross over between those who would watch the Superbowl and those who would play MMOs? From the Guilds I am in on the NA server, there isn't ever much talk about football, so I was under the impression there wasn't.

I'm not american either but I think that the "event" is not the football game anymore, the half-time show IS the event. Many people will switch on TV just for the show. It's pop culture more than sport culture, and gaming is part of pop culture.
Yes, think that's true, the medium is the message the same way an aircraft carrier is :)
So you send the ESO is big, thriving and we are willing to spend loads of money on it message.
People don't buy it because of it but they are probably more likely to buy it later on an campaign on gaming sites.
Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

If ZOS is airing a commercial during Sunday's Super Bowl they are making a bundle in sales with ESO. It is not cheap to get a commercial spot for the Super Bowl. Now you will know why they turn a blind eye to most complaints about the game and Crown Store. They are making money hand over foot so why care.
