CP System: Armor Focus

Does anybody ever use the CP nodes which increases your resistances while wearing the corresponding armor types?

I never do as I feel the scaling is inadequate. What do you think?

Perhaps the scaling for Light and Medium armor should be improved considering that Heavy is in a good spot right now?

scales like flat armor penetration and counters it.

Unless I'm misreading it, the biggest problem I find with it is it doesn't just raise your armor (which affects physical/spell resistance) leaving Hardy to just be better, since it isn't broken by penetration, and often even simply adding more % reduction at all points.

My pvp red CP allocation is like: 15-18% into Hardy and Eledefender, 500 crit res from CP, 5% self healing, and 2k additional heavy armor because I'm a breton (already have more spell res).

You are better off putting those points in hardy, because the mitigation they provide there is better. For example putting 50 points in Heavy Armor Focus gives you extra 8.8% armor. If you have 27K - which is on the high end - you will have an extra 2.4K physical resistance, which translates to (2.4/33.5)*50%=3.6% physical damage mitigation. 33.5K is the cap, and at the cap the damage reduction is 50%. By comparison, putting the same 50 CP in hardy gives you a 15.4% damage reduction, before the damage is taken into account against your resistance - it works just like the minon/major protection buff and the Nord racial passive. So it's pretty clear that putting points in hardy is at least 4 times more efficient than putting them in light/medium/heavy armor focus. http://deltiasgaming.com/champion/

The only time putting points into an armor focus star, or the spell resistance star, is efficient is if both of the following conditions are met:

    1) The next point into Hardy / Elemental Defender is worth .1%.

    2) You only put one point into the armor focus or spell resistance star.

Or if you're already at 100 points in Hardy / Ele Defender and just want more mitigation against that damage type, but this would be for very niche situations.

    This IS interesting.

I am a med armor user and yes, I put points in med armor for damage resistance and the one that reduces spell damage. I'll have to test hardy to see how it compares after reading the above.

    The question I have is....

after 50 points in hardy, on a character with LIGHT armour, will I see an upgrade in damage mitigation if I take CP points into Light armour focus?

I would think so. Also, while hardy is better, there are serious diminishing returns. There is probably line where one point in an armor skill becomes better than one point in hardy.

On my Nord DK I split about equally between hardy and elemental defender, drop some in thick skinned and expert defender. But really depends on what class/race passives you have. If you are a Breton Templar or DK your class and race passives stack for significant spell resistance, so you are better of putting less in elemental defender and more in hardy and thick skinned. It also depends on the content you are running. Generally it's better to have slightly higher spell/elemental resistance because physical attacks are usually blockable, while most ground based AoE damage is not, and that's usually elemental in nature and can only be countered by increased resistances. That's why you will find most builds with more points in elemental defender than hardy.
