I like to play both genders and create a back story for every character and a personality of his/her own during the game play. Sometimes I'm doing it on single player games also because in some RPGs the NPCs will react differently regarding your character gender.

Usually my first character is male, this game is one of the few exceptions, or maybe not because during CBT I played like a male nord that is lost now, I think, and got replaced by a bosmer female (last character played in Skyrim).

I'm a straight male. My female characters will always have very feminine names (Zoey, Bella, Delora, Reba, Daisy etc). Sometimes when I'm playing a female character a horny dude will try to hit on me and depending on my mood I'll use that to troll him a bit or I'll just tell him that I have lots of hair on my chest.

Bonus: in other MMO a dude asked if I want to be his girlfriend, I've told him that's I'm a dude, but he still insisted to pretend to be his girlfriend....

Bonus2: in another MMO, another dude thought that I was a woman even that I was playing a male character. Anyway, I've meet some girls that were playing both genders so yeah, the person that control that bunch of pixels in front of you can be anyone.

Both. Whenever I think of a new character to make I try to think of their personality and a bit of their backstory first. In the process I decide their gender, sometimes subconciously.

Totally agree. Who sits and stares at their character's ass anyway? Most armor you couldn't see it anyway because of butt/crotch flaps...

I'm playing both. 5 male and 3 female from different classes and races. The first charater i created is a dunmer male and i feel like it's me. But it's not a problem playing other genders. It shouldn't be i think. I feel like they're a family all together. When i'm playing with any alt character i feel like, i'm playing for him/her. Not for myself. So, when you think like that, your characters becomes more real. Because you respect their ownselves, you can feel like they've their own worlds. Yes they're still part of you but it's a friend of you too now ;)
Whenever i search for an alternative game, i realize that how beautiful ESO is...

I RP a fair bit, so I have tons of toons across two accounts. The male or female model doesn't really matter much to me in terms of preference, and it matters even less when I'm wearing plate :)

Out of my eight characters only two are female, and one of them is an old, fat, ugly vampire lizard. The age slider and the fatness slider were both maxed out on her. (She's my fav tho, and the one I'm the proudest of, real fun to play, even made an elaborate little backround story for her.) The other female is an Imperial hottie.

I play as female characters in every game I can, if it makes no difference.

But I don't make characters who look like me, I just want them to be of my gender because female video game characters were few and far apart when I was growing up.
Just so that everyone knows, my Altmer still can't have black hair. About a dozen of Altmer NPCs in the game have black hair. Just saying.

    Meet my characters:
    Command: Do the thing.

Zadarri, Khajiit Fist of Thalmor: The thing was done, as commanded.
Durza gra-Maghul, Orc blacksmith: The thing was done perfectly, in the most efficient way.
Tegwen, Bosmer troublemaker: You can't prove I didn't do the thing.
Sings-Many-Songs, Argonian fisher: Sure, I'll do the thing... Eventually. Maybe.
Aerindel, Altmer stormcaller: After extensive research, I've come to the conclusion that doing the thing would be a waste of resources.
Liliel, Dunmer pyromancer: Aerindel said I shouldn't do the thing. Something about "resources".
Gyda Snowcaller, Nord cryomancer: I will find a way to do it that won't waste resources and make Aerindel proud of me.
Beatrice Leoriane, Breton vampire: I persuaded someone else into doing the thing. You are welcome, dear.
Sahima, Redguard performer: Doing the thing sounds awfully unpleasant and really not my problem.
Ellaria Valerius, Imperial priestess: I'll pray to the Eight for the thing to be done, if it is Their will.

    Both. Because I can.

It's not some personal rule, though. If I play a game just once, I usually play as female. If I replay it, it can go either way: Commander Shepard is always female (male Shep is just... wrong), the Courier always male, in previous TES games I had dozens of starkly different characters. I create whatever character I feel like playing at the moment.

All female, mostly because I am female and it's always felt a bit odd to run around a multiplayer environment as a guy. In single-player games, I play guys all the time, but for some reason, MMOs are different. *shrug*

Nephikah the Houseless, dunmer assassin: "I suppose I could use the break. I have a lot of business holdings now that need management."
Swum-Many-Waters, elderly argonian healer: "I think that I would enjoy writing a memoir."
Silh'ki, khajiit warrior-chef: "Would this one be able to go outside, to the nearby river? It's hard to fish without water!"
Peregrine Huntress, bosmer hunter: "Who is forcing me to stay inside, and where can I find them?"
Lorenyawe, altmer mechanist: "And why would I want to go outside in the first place? Too much to be done in the workshop."
Lorelai Magpie, breton master thief: "I'd go nuts. Lucky for me, I have a little experience sneaking out!"
Rasheda the Burning Heart, redguard knight: "I would continue my training to keep my skills sharp."
Hex-Eye Azabi, khajiit daedric priestess: "I suppose it would be lucky, then, that I built a shrine to Mephala in my backyard."
Yngva Stormhammer, nord bandit (reformed...ish): "I hate being inside even when I'm not forced to be. GET. ME. OUT."
Madam Argentia, vampire dunmer aristocrat: "I suppose it would be more of the same. I have a rather... contentious relationship with the sun."
Mazie gra-Bolga, orc scout: "Uh... I'd have to house train my bear..."
Felicia the Wanderer, imperial witch-for-hire: "What Lorelai said."
Calico Jaka-dra, retired khajiit pirate: "This one would like a rest from her grand adventures. Her jewel shop runs out of stock!"
Shimmerbeam, blind altmer psijic: "Provided that I am confined to Artaeum, I do not think I will want for things to occupy my time."
Shauna Blackfire, redguard necromancer: "Sounds like paradise. I hate people."
Kirniel the Undying, cursed bosmer warrior: "I would feel useless, not being able to fight."
Echoes-from-Dragons, argonian who thinks she's a dragon: "All the better to count my hoard!"

Male playing female characters. I don't play "as" female, I'm still a guy playing a game, but I care more about a character if they are female. Seems strange when I put it into words, but I think I feel more protective of them, more invested in them, and therefore fight better. I also like that females can be just as badass as the male characters; everyone's on a level field.

I'm of very androgynous gender myself -- to the point where occasionally I'll identify as male but more often I'll just shrug -- so I don't tend to limit myself to one gender in most games. In Guild Wars 2, I played as a lot of charr women. I find myself playing men in ESO though because the women can't be buffed up to the amount that men can, this is especially worse when heavy armour shrinks the musculature of limbs (no, really, it does, look at the Old Orcish Sentry outfit which is the worst of the lot).

And it's a shame, really. ESO allows for a lot of great things -- small breasts, a large bottom, being fat, and other factors which most MMOs overlook. This I celebrate, and I'll cheer them on for that. The gender dimorphism though is shameful, since you can't really make a buff woman, most of the time. The only race that really has reduced gender dimorphism is the khajiit, but if you look at, say, the orcs? It's really bad. I'd considered playing women, but... I can't buff them up enough.

It's bothering my partner a lot, too, as she wants to play a buff woman. She's losing her investment in ESO and, well, if she goes? I go. We've both lost a lot of interest in the game, though, so I can't imagine we'll be around for long. Not a dramatic notice of "I'm leaving the game!" but more a statement of fact that it'll happen eventually. Does with everyone, right? We've been pretty loyal up until this point, though, and we've spent a lot of money on this game. We've probably 'given back' more than we've taken with ESO. A lot more.

So, yes... I would play women more, but they're just egregiously lanky and unable to be buff. They really should fix that. They won't, but they should. It'd be nice.
