I've never felt comfortable playing a male character.........

Oooooo except Geralt and him I'd prefer to play naked(Geralt naked not me!!) :)>:):p

Both because I can. Mostly female, because I prefer to play as something that is way different to what I am, drawing myself away from reality. When choosing a male it will depend on whatever name/class/race that comes to mind at the time.

I have both, in the beginning of eso I only created female chars, due to loving many bad a.. women in movies, now I started making males as well. Both males and females chars I make now have silly not serious names, u can call it the evolution of my online gaming the last couple of years :D

I play female characters because I am a female in real life, and feel more comfortable playing that gender.

In an MMORPG that I had played for years, and on a whim, I created a male character. Within one hour or so of his creation, he was snuggled and smooched by a female character he didn't even know. He blushed needless to say, then bowed, and having politely excused himself, left the room. LOL I promptly deleted him as soon as he was out of her sight.

Having answered this question, I realized that even when I was playing as Corvo in Dishonored or in Witcher as the character Geralt, I never really thought of them as being male, except of course during certain cutscenes within the latter. ;)

Because I'm one. And I try to make my characters look like me. Well... as much as I can with a Bosmer, Dunmer, Breton, or Redguard. Never an Altmer... because I hate those Nazis.

Side note: Yes, I have an Argonian and a Khajiit... Shut up! That's not actually what I look like. :s

For me it totally depends on the concept behind the character and the aesthetics of character creation and gear.

In games with full "cosmetic" gear systems (something I would love in ESO) have been known to "semi retire" characters for months on end until I find that exact right bit of gear to have them look how I want.

My main in ESO is male (as am I) but in SWTOR my Rep-Main is male, and my Imp-Main is female.

I always play female characters and I'm a lady. I have thought about making a big buff nord dude just so I can admire his sword arms. I admire others from afar for about 5 seconds then I think that the player could be a kid younger than my kid and run away.

Female because as I have seen before I am one too!!

However for some reason this does not apply to every online game..ESO is more about my PVP character therefore I am happy to play a female, In SWTOR however most of my characters are males 6 out of 8. Why? I prefer the male voice actors and a majority of my characters are Twi'leks. The male designs look better than the female ones which is is also another reason to play males.

Eso has a fabulous character creation, and therefore I can change the voice (which I only ever hear if shes screaming from dying) and how she looks much more than you can in SWTOR.

    Both.

I tend to choose sex based on what looks best for a particular race. E.g.: A Bosmer has always been a bow-wielding woman (usually petite and endearing). Altmer women are very impressive, so I tend to prefer playing as one (tall, regal and superior). Redguard is always a big, dual-wielding black dude with white hair, lol. Breton tends to be a white male, similar in facial features to my own but not physique.

Overall, it doesn't matter to me what sex my character is because I choose whichever is currently fitting with the inner-monologue RP I'm planning on running; I also feel no compunctions about playing a female character. It's just a game.

In ESO though I've noticed that I prefer characters with the muscular buffed male figure, it's more imposing and impressive.

First character is always male in any game cause I'm a guy IRL also. after that then it depends on what I feel like for an alt. Most groups I have been in if I am on female character I tell them straight up I'm a guy unless there using voice chat. Then i just tell them in there.

Since my mains are male bosmer maybe I should have picked "both"

Also I do stare at my nightblade in his tight armor, that's all he'll be good for in a few weeks.

I typically look at my characters as just that: characters. Puppets. I am the puppet master. I like to have a general idea of their lives and motivations and a story for them.

My characters all have an aspect of me in them, be it noble, cruel, intelligent, sarcastic, etc. but none ever are supposed to BE me.

In cases where a character is supposed to be me, it depends. I do not relate AT ALL with the giant 600lb pure muscle mass horse sized male toons many MMOs are fans of. When those are the only options, I find the female toons simply LOOK more like 'me' (with some smart choices for shorter hair lol).

But that is rare these days. Most MMOs allow me to go ahead and create a character. A brand new being of their own.

I am a girl and I play both, depends on the idea I have of the toon.
Also depends on the game, like in Fallout games I enjoy playing a male way more than a female, but in games like ESO or Skyrim I prefer female.

I assume it's because Fallout is a .... harsher land and world, but people may argue about that.

I have 8 toons in ESO, 7 are female, 1 is male, but I love (not in a creepy way) my male tiger khajiit. He gets special treatment from my crafting girls lol.
    Hoping for more playable races

I play both because i like variety. It makes things interesting and allows for more in-depth roleplay. Currently roleplaying khajiit siblings (brother and a sister) and having loads of fun.

While I'll always have a male character for the sake of full immersion, you could say i prefer playing females most of the time. It just seems more appealing to me. + it's better to stare at female butt and chest :)

Heck, I love tv shows/books/movies with kick-butt Action Girl main characters. Xena, Buffy, Sydney Bristow, etc, etc, etc. And so many games force you to play Macho DudeBro, that when a game gives me the option, I pick female.

(Also, the character is not 'me'. It's an action figure that I'm pushing around on a very fancy game board. Hmm, now that I think about it, outside of one tabletop RPG campaign, I've never created a 'me' character.)

Though I have a few female chars (am female), I usually play male chars. Even in tabletop games I got in the habit of rolling males. I started "back in the day" when showing up with a female toon usually got you some very unsolicited PM's. Stuck with the habit ever since, though my males do have a tendency of being gay when I RP these days.
