Loot Crate and Imperial Edition Thoughts

I have owned the Imperial Edition since ESO first came out. The physical edition came with a plethora of wonderful items including a wide variety of in game content. My favorite is the mudcrab vanity pet and the white Imperial horse. Recently, Loot Crate gave out copies of the Imperial Edition upgrade to their November crate subscribers. I fully support Loot Crate providing special content to their subscribers, but not something like the Imperial Edition. This was special content for people who enjoyed to play as Imperial and support the development of ESO by paying for this content. Now the content is no longer special.

People should take pride in actual in game accomplishments, not items they purchased with real money as some weird status symbol.

If you think it looks cool all power to you, but can't be jealous when other people get what you wanted all to yourself.

What other people have in no way cheapens what I have. I don't believe there should be cosmetic castes in any MMO (and I own Imp. Ed. from start, have all sub rewards, etc.) except those created by finance, and even then that's more of an acknowledgment of reality than ideal.

I love my Dwemer pet. I think everyone should be able to get one.

I am not taking pride in something that was bought. I merely stating that it would have been nice if they did not give away something like the Imperial Edition. They could have made a limited edition mount, vanity pet, or something similar. The items such as the white Imperial horse and the mudcrab are visual aspects and not game accomplishments. Everyone has that one mount or vanity pet that they spent or want to spend money on. It is fun to run around and see other people with the same mount or pet as you. It allows you to connect with new people more easily because you both have something in common. By giving away those things, it diminishes this connection. I do not want to keep it all to myself because then I cannot make these connections. I just want to keep those connections available.

If they create there own special item, then people could bond through these items. It is all about connections in a game such as ESO.

Does it matter who paid for it? It would be perfectly reasonable for any company to offer Imperial Upgrades via contest, or whatever, if they own the codes with which to do so, and as long as it doesn't violate ZOS ToS.

I guess what I am trying to say, after thinking about it more, is that there should be more free will. Instead of giving everyone the Imperial Edition, the should have given crowns. That would have allowed the players to pick and choose the add-ons that they want. I have no problem with companies giving away free items. I just wish there was more free will involved to allow for more expression among the players. Thank you everyone for their insights, I do enjoy engaging in a thoughtful discussion!

Yeah, free Crowns would probably be considered a more "common" giveaway. Then people can choose the Imperial Upgrade if they want it, or anything else if they don't.

This is how I see it, if you disagree that is fine.
When you buy something and use it for, idk, lets say 2 years, and you love it - you spent money on real value there.
If you buy stuff just to be 1337 and brag about it, then get butthurt when others get discounts or stuff on that 2 years later, it is not good thing for you. It is same as if I would want to beat up the baker for bread prices being lower atm compared to these 6 y ago. Damn baker, I should see this coming and wait 6 y so I could save few bucks/euros/shekels.

Also, if bringing more ppl to the game will bring us more content and maybe even lag fix at some point, please do sell all one time offer mounts I bought in a bundles for 400 crowns.

I am not offended at all. I am sorry if I am coming off that way. I am just stating that there are better options than giving away a specific content. They should have given crowns. I am all for people receiving free items, but in cases like this it should be a choice option. I do hope it brings more people to play because ESO is a wonderful game.

Question @ZOS_GinaBruno : Would it be against the TOS to sell one of these codes for in-game gold?

Yes. You can give the codes away but you may not sell them for in game gold or real money.

What's a Loot Crate? And I'm in a guild that sometimes uses game codes as raffle prizes. I never thought to ask if that was against the ToS.

A subscription service where you pay them money every month and they send you random stuff. They're completely unaffiliated with ZOS, it just seems that one of their crates had some ESO codes in it. I don't subscribe to the service, so I can't comment much beyond that, but you can check them out for yourself easily enough, their site is www.lootcrate.com (not linked since idk if it would fall foul of advertising rules here, but it's easy enough to copy/paste to your address bar).

Most game publishers turn around and sell the collector's edition 'exclusives' for cash shortly after the game releases. It's a good way to milk the whales and instant gratification crowd for more money before laughing at them and making the same 'exclusive' content available in the cash shop.

The only things that are really an 'exclusive' in those CE's are the physical items, such as statues, etc.. Any digital content is going to be milked for as long as the publisher can make a dollar on it.

What about the Bristlegut Pig? People sell those codes, and people who didn't attend that specific event that gave them out have them, does it bother those who got it by attending?

GREEEEEDD! Is the simple answer. Same reason they put a skin in the IC dlc a year after its release marked up to 60 dollars and re sold it.

@ZOS_DaryaK Um so what happened? Is that different from pet codes? I know its older, but this post here frm ZOSMolly says specifically we can sell codes for gold (second to last post at bottom)

    Greetings again!

We wanted to ensure that the information was not misconstrued before giving the complete response, I apologize for being unclear!

Provided any in-game content (including pet codes) are not non-transferrable (such as game accounts etc) they *may* be exchanged for in-game resources as any other game content (like crafting materials and non-BOP items)

You may sell your bristlegut pig codes for in-game resources.

Thank you again for your patience while we got you a clarified and complete response for this matter."
