Turning unwanted consumables into gems sounds pretty huge. Why aren't we pestering them for info on that instead of this egregious mess of a thread? That change, alone, would be fantastic.

    Here's the pts comment
    https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/comment/3384769/#Comment_3384769

It's a great response to feedback. However, I will say that they should let you turn any unwanted trash from the boxes into gems--not just consumables.

That would make the whole thing bearable, really.

    Yes, we suggested that too.
What use does someone who only plays, say, Argonians, have for non-argonian style parlor stuff?
And why would I want that cosmetic that I purposefully passed on when it was in the store for direct purchase?
People should be able to turn these in for gems, even if not for as many gems as repeated stuff.
Just so that everyone knows, my Altmer still can't have black hair. About a dozen of Altmer NPCs in the game have black hair. Just saying.

    Meet my characters:
    Command: Do the thing.

Zadarri, Khajiit Fist of Thalmor: The thing was done, as commanded.
Durza gra-Maghul, Orc blacksmith: The thing was done perfectly, in the most efficient way.
Tegwen, Bosmer troublemaker: You can't prove I didn't do the thing.
Sings-Many-Songs, Argonian fisher: Sure, I'll do the thing... Eventually. Maybe.
Aerindel, Altmer stormcaller: After extensive research, I've come to the conclusion that doing the thing would be a waste of resources.
Liliel, Dunmer pyromancer: Aerindel said I shouldn't do the thing. Something about "resources".
Gyda Snowcaller, Nord cryomancer: I will find a way to do it that won't waste resources and make Aerindel proud of me.
Beatrice Leoriane, Breton vampire: I persuaded someone else into doing the thing. You are welcome, dear.
Sahima, Redguard performer: Doing the thing sounds awfully unpleasant and really not my problem.
Ellaria Valerius, Imperial priestess: I'll pray to the Eight for the thing to be done, if it is Their will.

Just curious, who is that she-devil who-must-not-be-named who kills MMO's? Can I see somewhere the evidence she has actually been hired by ZOS to do what you're saying she's doing?

Why people are saying MMO's like SWTOR are dead although they're still online, maybe you just don't like how it turned out but others do?

Why Crown Crates will slow down the release of new content more than the actual Crown Store? Aren't there supposed to be different development teams, like one dedicated to the Crown Store, one for testing, one for PvP combat, etc?

People have said so many times that ESO is dead, RIP ESO, every time there is something added to the game that they dislike and it's not dead yet, is it? Why would it be different this time?

I'm not really fond of these crates either (not fond of the whole Crown Store thing in the first place, I'd rather pay a mandatory monthly fee and get almost everything in game but well...), but all these conjectures are more concerning to me than the idea of gambling my real money for a chance to get something I want and I'd like to understand, that's why I asked a few questions. :)

I would much rather they put equipment in the crates then cosmetics. I know this makes me a bad person, but it annoys me that most games see it as ok to charge extra for something i enjoy. I pay it because i can. But i wont gamble for it.

I already pay for all the expansions just like everyone else. Let people who want the biggest sword pay the extra for awhile. Include my costumes and pretty horses in the dlc.

Because RNG Boxes make more money with the same cost of development. It's really just that.

I'll give you an example. Say, how many Crowns would an Apex mount cost in the Crown Store? 5k Crowns? Maybe 6k Crowns?
I spent over 34k Crowns on the PTS before I was able to have enough gems to buy one of them. I didn't drop a single Apex mount.

I agree, the odds are really bad if you want something specific from these crates, but I don't understand why it will slow down the release of new content. ^^' I'm sorry if I sound dumb but I don't think the whole dev team is needed to work on the Crown Crates, I guess I will have to see it happening by myself to believe it and I don't want to see it happening...

Because it's a tumble down effect. People will leave because of crates flat out. Won't come on forums to whine, just leave. People will gamble and lose and get mad and leave. Devs will put more focus on crates cuz it's easy money. Less better of content quality in every aspect of this game which will cause more people to leave. The more players you lose the more you need to entice people to buy more crates. So more and more stuff is put into crates...see how it works?

I hope to God they can do what any other game company has failed to do. I myself is waiting for housing. If it turns out to be a joke or crate geared then I'm gone =(

All I can say from playing multiple games with RNGboxes:

Gameplay and content went to *** not long after they were implemented. Every time.

I personally don't care if other people want to gamble their money away fruitlessly. However, non-RNGbox content will basically stop and turn into complete ***. It happened in TF2, it happened in SWTOR, it happened in Payday II (boy what a mess that was), it happened in Evolve (another massive ***), and it will happen here.

Enjoy the game while it lasts. It is very likely we won't get much content that isn't a RNGJesus box in the foreseeable future.

It's fine, it is a perfectly reasonable argument to make

They do not need a whole dev team to work on the Crates, and on an ideal scenery, the money made with the Crates would go to funding these other dev teams that work on areas that need more investment than the Crates do. If ESO does that, awesome, I will be super happy, but that would be a first in the MMO industry.

What usually happen when they start to introduce F2P strategies like RNG Boxes is that they, well, go F2P. And the return the boxes give goes back to the boxes, because they give the most money with the least investment when compared to other areas of the game. That is often a last ditch effort to get as much money as possible from the game before leaving it for another project, and I am afraid that this is what the introduction of F2P strategies mean to ESO.

A MMO can be kept on "life support" with RNG Boxes alone for a good while, exactly because "they don't need the whole dev team to work on them".

But I'm here mashing my F5 key waiting for the article and hoping for the best (while trying to be prepared for the worst).

You know what would be fun. I want the Devs to drop in and tell me what they enjoy most about scam boxes in mmorpgs. They have stated in the past that they are all gamers, correct? I would be interested to hear about their experiences outside of ESO regarding these things. Gina can chime in too. Don't care what this article says today, I want to see some personal opinions not filtered through an attorney in the marketing department first. Doesn't count if Heather Powers hand is up your backside working the controls either.

To be 100% fair, it is almost impossible to never get enough gems to get what you want (I mean, unless you run out of money). I mean, you would have to drop only the experience scrolls forever (they replace collectibles), which is unlikely at best, and ZOS would have to not implement the consumable-to-gems system they said they would look into.
But still, with that gem return rate, and if you are unlucky enough to drop EVERYTHING in the non-apex part of the Crown Gem Store before starting to drop duplicates and then only drop duplicates from the lower tier, you would need an absurd amount of crowns. Much more than the 10k you said you were willing to spend for one of the apex mounts.

I had assumed out of hand that they weren't actually going to let you trade in consumables for gems. If they do let you trade in, we can at least calculate some absolute maximum for any particular reward. It goes without saying, of course, that this is only true for the exclusive, high-quality mounts. If they put normal mounts like the white wolf/white lion as gambling exclusives then all bets are off and the rage will increase a thousandfold.

well to be fair as polite as it may not be. I however think it is polite that if a consumer asks a question about a product he/she has bought into that his/her question get answered.

I think I'm going to buy some Crown Crates after reading as much of this thread as I could handle.

That will teach us. You go girl.

Oh it's not about teaching you. It's about supporting the ZOS decision to add Crown Crates. That's all.

Ah I see. You can certainly see why i was confused, as your first quote didnt say anything about supporting Zos. But seemed to imply you were buying crown crates because of this thread. Oh wait it didnt imply that, it said that directly.

    Correct!

Because of this thread, I am inspired to support ZOS.

*Edit: though I guess, for the sake of fairness, if it turns out there IS a guarantee that you can get what you want in a fixed price range, then I will HIGHLY TENTATIVELY back off some of my rage about it.

This is what I am really curious about. I want to know if they will go ahead with the 3/5 or so exclusives that are not themed or if they will drop that awful idea and keep only the themed stuff exclusive.

Khajiit she wonders if they have a plan for the timing of this article.

Like after perhaps khajiit she normally sleeps perhaps? :)

Yes it is three in the afternoon in the Tamriel of this one but she is khajiit after all!

    Yours with paws

It will probably be in the afternoon, well after the normal media cycle peaks for new content, so that if someone links to it on reddit or other sites it won't get nearly as much attention. Or maybe that's just me being cynical. :-p

You dont like the game enough to support ZOS? But you like a random thread on the internet enough. Or perhaps dislike enough? That is very insightful.
