Absolutely true. For me, it was truly a just out of curiosity thing (and to help pass the time on a slow day at the office until I can get home and play tonight). It has succeeded though in letting me know that there are more gamers in my particular demo playing than I would have suspected going in.

Never fear friend. Middle aged demographic as been the dominating one in MMOs for a long time. :)

This game attracts more middle aged men than a Van Halen concert.

Just once I'd love it if ZOS would disclose some rough basic player demographic info. Wouldn't it be fun to see them say things like:

Did you know that more than 1 out of every 6 ESO:TU players on the PC are women?

I have no idea what the actual figure is. However ZOS believed that there were enough potential women players that they had one of their early beta test groups be comprised of all women to gather our feedback to the game and I've made many in-game friends through that tester group. Thanks ZOS!

ZOS even had a tester group that had mostly "older" players so it appeared that they also cared about gamers who weren't children or young adults only. It doesn't surprise me in the least that so many people who reply to this thread are not in the young adult age demographic.

Am a whimsical Generation Jones gamer. Online RPGs hooked me since '94 and no sign of stopping soon...

Totally anecdotal here, but the main guild that I'm in seems like it's roughly a 50/50 split between male/female, and it seems like the majority are over 30. I expect that PC demographics are probably pretty different from console demographics, though. I wouldn't be at all surprised if there are fewer females and fewer older players on console.

Joust. That's all I ever needed. I had a big pile of Atari games, including Ms Pacman, and Joust is all that ever went into it.

Then I got an NES, and they rereleased Joust for it. Again, the only game that went into the NES.

Did I mention Joust was fun?

I can almost guarantee you that there is a lower percentage of women on consoles than on PC. One of Xbox's (or rather Xbox Live) biggest issues is female harassment and that is easily avoided on PC due to anonymity.

That's exactly what I would have thought. I tend to think that overall console players are less mature than PC players (naturally, being a generalization about a large population, that wouldn't necessarily apply to any given player in either category), and I don't mean in terms of actual age (although probably that too). Guys who have a lower level of maturity are much more likely to harass women than their more mature counterparts. In fact, I'd say that harassment proves immaturity.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that PC would be free of such problems (I'm sure it's not), but I would tend to think that they would be less prevalent on PC. And this is all just based on my impressions anyway, and not on any sort of studies or actual data.

Still one of the banner years ever of PC gaming for me. Was in my late 20's , and had Everquest, Tribes , Myth The Fallen Lords , and Baldurs Gate all going on , was awesome.

Might be the best year overall ever for me with PC Games.

58 and going strong. My first computer was an Altair 8800 that I built in around 1975 just before enlisting in the Air Force. The following year I built an Apple I. And from this point on I was hooked on computers and gaming.

Interesting fact, to listen to sound on the TRS-80 model one, you had to output square waves to a audio cassette, or tune your FM radio to the frequency of your processor. 16K memory was more expensive, adjusting for inflation, than 16M of DDR3 memory used in current computers. A 5M hard drive cost something like $2500!

My first MMO was Kesmai's Air Warrior on GEnie (General Electric's Network and Information Exchange) in the early 1980's.It was accessed through a bulletin board system because the Web didn't exist back then. It cost $10 an hour to play using a 1200 baud modem. Up to 64 players could play at the same time with three countries called: Red, Blue, and Yellow. Instead of a guild, you belonged to a squadron. I was the squadron commander of the "Wolfpack" and my call sign was "Air Wolf". I had 26 members in my squadron, some of them real fighter pilots. The game was awesome and ahead of its time using real physics and aerodynamics for the fight models of the aircraft. The game rarely crashed and had almost no lag even though I was connected through a 1200 baud modem. Thirty plane furballs were common on weekends. I really missed that game.

The first single player game that I bought was called "B1 Nuclear Bomber" back in 1980 for the TRS-80 model 2. The game really sucked, but I was a gaming junkie at that point in my life.

I started graphics progamming in the late 1980's, and I published my first magazine article in 1987 called Softsprite for the Atari home computers.

Before the IBM clones dominated the market in the 1990's, I had owned two TRS-80's (models 1 & 2), two Commodores (a Pet and 64), two Apples (1 & 2), a Sinclair ZX80, every Atari home computer including the Amiga's.

In the 1990's I started a small business on the side building custom PC computers.

So fast forward to 2015 and I'm still a 20 year old mentally, but I'm trapped in this 58 year old body!

Of course, even most people who played Baldur's Gate don't realize that Boo was a reference to Spelljammer (AD&D in space with flying wooden ships and such). In one of the Spelljammer Monstrous Compendiums (I don't remember if it was in MC7 or MC9) there was an entry for Giant Space Hamsters (bred by Tinker Gnomes, of course). That entry included numerous sub-species, such as the sabre-toothed giant space hamster, the carnivorous flying giant space hamster ("a regrettable if understandable line of inquiry"), the unique Tyrranohamstersaurus of Ill Omen (aka Wooly Rupert), and of course the relatively inoffensive miniature giant space hamster (essentially just a regular hamster). Boo was a miniature giant space hamster.

46...Wow..when did that happen. First MMO but have been playing since Pong came out. Female, which I don't see alot of online but I play PC so maybe the consoles have more female players??

Really unless you ask, how would you know the gender of the player.

My husband and I both play characters of each gender, and we often game with another couple who do the same thing; we usually have a "mixed gender" group - but one regular AD based group consists of an Altmer male named Kenaril (happens to be played by a gal) and three female characters (played by 2 guys and the other gal).

When we are deciding which group to go with - one of the questions is "are we doing Kenny's Angels tonight?".
Tenesi Faryon of Telvanni - Dunmer Sorceress who deliberately sought sacrifice into Cold Harbor to rescue her beloved.
Hisa Ni Caemaire - Altmer Sorceress, member of the Order Draconis and Adept of the House of Dibella.
Broken Branch Toothmaul - goblin (for my goblin characters, I use either orsimer or bosmer templates) Templar, member of the Order Draconis and persistently unskilled pickpocket
Mol gro Durga - Orsimer Socerer/Battlemage who died the first time when the Nibenay Valley chapterhouse of the Order Draconis was destroyed, then went back to Cold Harbor to rescue his second/partner who was still captive. He overestimated his resistance to the hopelessness of Oblivion, about to give up, and looked up to see the golden glow of atherius surrounding a beautiful young woman who extended her hand to him and said "I can help you". He carried Fianna Kingsley out of Cold Harbor on his shoulder. He carried Alvard Stower under one arm. He also irritated the Prophet who had intended the portal for only Mol and Lyris.

Order Draconis - well c'mon there has to be some explanation for all those dragon tattoos.
House of Dibella - If you have ever seen or read "Memoirs of a Geisha" that's just the beginning...
Nibenay Valley Chapterhouse - Where now stands only desolate ground and a dolmen there once was a thriving community supporting one of the major chapterhouses of the Order Draconis
