Some great variety here and stories. I spoke to a guy on xbox EU and he said he was in his 80s. He was american and well spoken. He sounded a bit like obama, was a chill guy.

    Im 23

First games i can remember: pokemon yellow and silver (lvl 100 articuno ftw, bro had a lvl 100 quagsire) gameboy colour/advance, command and conquer red alert for ps1. Sonic hedghog, theres more but those are the only things i remember the name for.

Honestly didnt really consider myself a "gamer" my brother had all the consoles i just played with him.

Childhood memories maybe why i still play today, it sticks with you.

I just realised regarding peoples ages, these forums are not as friendly as the ages suggest. I see quite a lot of hostile comments in threads.

First games were probably Pacman, Pong and Gauntlet but first PC games were the early Leisure Suits Larry games and this is were I started to learn english.

First system was an old Commodore 128D that broke down on me twice (upgraded with final cartridge). In the early 90's I played mostly adventure games and bought about everything from Sierra and LucasArts. First computer was an IBM 286.

Biggest leap in tech was mid 90's when I bought my first 3D gfx, 3Dfx Iris pared with Matrox  - fond memories of playing glQuake with some friends all weekend.

I'm more of a cyberpunk / Fallout guy so I never bothered with the early TES games. Remeber my cousin wanted me to play Morrowind. Never got into the games until Skyrim just because I love the FO games so much and wanted to give it a try.

I'm 31 and a bit disappointed that I've crossed over into a separate demographic now. Can't we do 18-25, 25-35 etc. instead? ;)

I got started really young though. My first game was Hungry Horace on the ZX Spectrum and my parents first let me at it when I was 2. I actually remember simply enjoying poking the squishy rubber buttons and then becoming fascinated when I realised they controlled what happened on the TV. That was a big deal in the UK in the late 80's. No on demand TV, no recording, we didn't even have a video player at that point so controlling the TV usually meant switching between the 4 channels hoping for something good.

Needless to say it was a long time before I really had any clue what I was doing even in that one game, which was a basic Pac-man ripoff. But I've always stuck with it. We had various PCs throughout my childhood (usually not very good ones because my dad got them from work after they upgraded) and they always had games on them. I remember being banned from playing Doom while my mum ate breakfast because she said it sounded like throwing up when they died.

My first RPG was a DnD game I later found out was called Eye of the Beholder. I didn't really understand it, not helped by the fact that I didn't know what 'Str', 'Con', 'Dex' etc. stood for and didn't know what words like 'Constitution' and 'Dexterity' meant anyway. I remember working out that a half-giant made a better fighter and an elf was a better mage but beyond that I think I just picked whatever sounded interesting and hoped for big numbers to pop up when I was in a fight.

But I was (and am) obsessed with fantasy, especially anything with elves and/or dragons. Helped a lot by my local library, the sci-fi / fantasy section was right next to the children's section so when I grew out of the kids books and couldn't stomach reading "young adult" books about teenage girls afterschool clubs and all the drama when 'OMG a boy might have looked at me' I went looking for something else I stumbled straight into that section and never needed to look any further.

tl:dr I was always a massive geek and my parents were ahead of the game with getting into computers so it was kind of inevitable I'd be a gamer.

I can't recall what my VERY first video game was. I do remember a Super Nintendo at my grandparents house we'd get to play on during our Sunday dinner visits. And with that was Mario. And funnily enough, I was playing quite a few games on the PC until they came out with the original Xbox, and that puppy introduced me to the wonderful worlds of Console Gaming and Halo. Ever since then I've had to have an Xbox in my room, though I also do some PC gaming as well, but only titles my "economy class" computer can handle.
