There are still creepers out there in MMO land, but I had friends that were worried about VOIP in the EQ1 days and they and their daughters are pretty much... "yeah whatever" now.. they still get some crap playing shooters, but in MMO land people are generally more interested in if they have loot sword of uberness_003 and know the raid steps top "Evil hat guy" than anything else.
Consoles are still pretty creepy. I have friends that still have problems and feel the need to have super generic gamer tags and never talk in party/game chat unless they know everyone there.

I tried a couple times to make a male counterpart, spent hours in creation but just couldnt do it in a way I would be happy with. The discovery of the phenomenon of males playing female will always remain a lasting memory for me, and likely my husband as well. The first time I logged voice chat in LOTRO and found out all these cool girls I'd been playing with were men...haha I was quite shocked to say the least! Good times
ha wow I've heard guys say they play females for that reason but never thought I would hear a woman say that in reverse.Female here who plays males almost exclusively. I play in 3rd person and like looking at a pert male tush in my games!
.
True but I was referring to the boys that will max out the boobs and butt, make unrealistic proportions to the characters body then wear little to no armor/clothing.Ah, that's still overgeneralizing it. Plenty of people like me out there (at least I hope there are) that treat it like writing a character, and can create opposite gender characters and play/rp them realistically as a person, not a thing.

Wow it took until LOTRO? It never really surprised me, I was a cop so I know what creepers guys can be. We had quite a few females playing males in SWG.
Compared to PC, consoles are a whole different animal though.
There are tons of women in gaming this day and age, many just don't advertise it as they get harassed and sometimes even stalked. Me and my (now) wife met in lord of the rings online years ago. And our kin (guild) was about 50/50 male to female ratio and I've seen (heard on TS) many women in ESO aswell.
Anyway why does it matter whether a person's reproductive organs are on the inside or outside.. We are all players and come here to relax and enjoy the game. Gender plays very little role in that.

Hey, neat @Egonieser , you've a similar story to me, and we think alike.
I swear that guy was at least as much a philosopher as a painter.

For statistics sake I am female.

I didn't venture into online gaming really actively until then and was the first game and guild I really got into grouping. Playing solo games or playing along on my own basically.
It still doesn't occur to me even now to ask "are you male or female", just play along with whatever they are rolling until I'm told different or hear different lol
