If/When they add it in you will obviously be able to turn it off and not even use it if you don't want to. However attempting to coordinate in Cyro is an absolute joke. PVP campaigns are made up of mostly small groups of people doing things. You cannot coordinate between small groups well without that text chat. Sure all the small groups could choose to go to the public area channel, but then it becomes a nightmare and everyone would just turn off voice anyways.
Just for kicks the last few nights I have been playing I sat in area chat just to see how many people were even logged into voice chat. Out of the larger zergs on my team I saw on the low end 6 and on the high end 13... thats based on an enumeration of 50-60 people. I did walks around the keeps in stealth and monitored and on the sides with few to no players on them 1-3.
During my checks on smaller mobs of players in the 10-20 range 1-5 players seemed to have voice chat area enabled.
In a couple days of checking this on and off I have heard the following game related things in area chat.
- 2-4 solo players asking what was going on.
- 2 small groups of players swapping back and forth between group and area chat, attempting to build a warband up, which mostly failed do to very few people having chat enabled.
- Someone asking for gold to buy a mount
- Someone asking to be given some free siege equipment.
Now out of all the non game related stuff I hear over chat and randomness (Both PVP/PVE areas of chat)....
- half a dozen kids who sounded like they were between the ages of 8-13 years old talking crap, dropping the F/N/G bombs like they were going out of style...
- Several dogs barking over and over again (likely an afker with kinnect on)...
- Several people singing...
- Someone practicing guitar...
- A few moms telling their kids it was bedtime, then kids asking for the typical (just ten more minutes!)
- Too many people clearing their throats, blowing their noses, sneezing, coughing, heavy breathing, and lol... some loud farting...
- Some girl setting up a doctors appointment
- Various random music I hated
- Various random music I loved (but sounded terrible coming badly). Someone had some really amazing blues guitar instrumental going on in the background as well as someone who loves Epic Rap Battles of History as much as me (I left this guy on while I was doing dishes, I swear he played everyone in order based on the ones I listened to)
- Random noises (banging, clattering, desk drumming/tapping, emergency vehicles sirens)
- Gamer rage and tons of cussing at random in-game moments.
What I haven't heard but just expect to hear in the background at some point...(Remember if your in voice chat folks and you are idle, if your controller goes off your headset goes off and by default kinnect now takes over...
- Actual fighting/violence
- Sex sounds over chat
- Personal information
I would love for it to work, but its not a perfect world and it doesn't. I had some good convos with some people and even helped some people. I myself blew my nose or coughed a few times with an open mic but realized it and apologized. I want to be able to communicate with people and be social. But it's not worth the time of having to go in and mute dozens of players to hear the few nuggets worthwhile and its friggin time consuming and even worse, if in cyro you will get yourself killed trying to mute a player or even leaving chat.
Text chat needs to be re-added, it was a big mistake not having it in. Those who don't want to read it, do what I do. Turn it off when you don't need it. But if you need something you can re-enable it real quick ask, get answer, say thanks and disable.
I can just bounce that back to you, you think you are right and i am wrong, yes? So whats wrong with me telling my side of the show? It doesnt follow your view, thats it right yeah.
Anyway its been fun but I have stuff to do now so toodeloo, have fun in this endeavor to bring back features of the 60´s to a perfectly functioning game.
People crying about kids and stuff are just being silly, I use voice chat at every chance I can get with this game and have not had a problem with kids, or anything else.
Text chat would be fine, but hardly used. More people have headsets than a keyboard hooked up to their PS4.
Let's be realistic, the voice channel is more than enough.

Translation: I have not had an issues yet, so clearly they don't exist.
Also text chat would hardly be used? Yeah tell that to all the players using smart glass on their tablets/phones or who have plugged keyboards directly into their consoles. Neverwinter zones on console are plenty chatty with keyboard users.
simply nofor all various reasons listed in this thread.
a additional point for text chat ist the price, a good quality headset at least 100 $, a good wireless keyboard dont know 20 $ ?
Their is no reason to add this option dear DEVS, until you want realy that the game dies and you get a bad reputation in the community/industry, and be sure this will happen, like in FF14 a hardcrash without recovery ( only difference they survived and doing well now, cause they listened to the community, stay near the community, and improve their game so all can enjoy it )

The big difference here is that you don't lose anything by Zenimax adding this feature. What do you care if they add it or not? You don't care for it, so butt out. It would be an optional feature that you can turn off. It seems like you're just going against the crowd to be a prick. Nobody is saying to get rid of voice chat, we're talking about implementing a new feature to the game that was supposed to be there already, how is this a negative thing? This wouldn't hurt the game at all, so please, stop with that nonsense.
Putting down your controller to type on a mobile device or even a keyboard, or just speak on your headset and keep playing? Seems like an easy choice. If they put a text chat in the game, and someone stops playing in the middle of a dungeon to type, I'll be removing them from the dungeon.
I do agree, a text chat would be handy, it just wouldn't be active or useful anywhere outside of a city. It can be a bit hard to chat in a city. People are talking as if a text box is life or death for this game, and that isn't the case. It's just a case of people online crying for the sake of crying, as usual. By all means, I welcome any new features to any game.

i Understand where you are coming from but not every one can use Voip like you can for a number of different reasons Deafness, Social Anxiety and Anonymity are just a few reasons. and just because you have not had any issues with the voice chat thus far dosent mean others haven't.

Anonymity? You're really stretching for reasons there bud. Deafness, I'll give you that. That does make sense, though no game company is ever going to put in features because maybe 10% of the players can't hear. If you think Voicechat is bad for "issues" you've clearly never seen the text chat of any MMO.
Still not disagreeing the game could use a text chat, but I'm not going to try and make up reasons for it. It could just use it, simple.

Some people arent a fan of having others know their Age or Gender in a online environment, i have played many MMO's including 2 on Console FF14ARR and DCUO Both have active chat boxs and yes there are issues with people been abusive and generally a pain but you get that with VoiP aswell atleast with a chat box you can Block people.
@ Rassh
statement from the devs still would be nice, and this thread will continue until a response comes from their side.
until than nothing will change in this solo RPG xD
19.06 Heavensward hypesadly only real MMORPG in consoles
You can Block people in voice channels as well.

No you cant ive tried several times all you can do is leave the channel. but if you know of a Alternative way please let me know seriously it would be a big help
I'm looking at a "block" button right now in my group chat 'participants list' I can only assume that the button called block, blocks the user for you.
Please z-max hear my desperate plea: dont do it, dont cave in to the "We must have this and that"-guys. they are a minority of vocal forum posters thats all. Most people are fine playing the game and love the absence of text chat.
