Provisioning Writs are lame.

I more often than not get a blue recipe and some purple ingredients from provisioning and have gotten purple recipes. Enchanting has gotten me kuta aspect runes fairly often. In fact, all the crafting writs have earned me gold upgrade material fairly often.

I think you need to look at writs as being for very special purposes, mainly leveling and earning high level components. For provisioning and alchemy, the items you need to do that writs are so easy to get that they're basically just free chances to get rare items each day. Enchanting is similar, although you generally take a net loss in crafting materials that aren't necessarily so easy to get back. You ultimately still have a better chance at getting kuta doing writs than farming or trying to earn the gold to buy them. The other trade skills definitely eat up more of your basic resources than they give back, so these are strictly for getting gold components or leveling. They work well for leveling because you get maps that lead you to crafting materials that are generally the next higher level than what you used to do the writ, meaning you're sort of trading your lower level materials for the ones you now need.

If you go about doing writs with this in mind, then you might like them. It means that if you're not in need of rare crafting components, and you've already leveled your crafts, you can just skip them, but otherwise you can gain quite a bit from them.

I do consumable writs every day on 3 max level characters. And on a couple of lower level alts.

The only thing I wish they would change, and this is for my lower level alts as well, is to allow writ turn ins at any zone we wanted. We can grab the appropriate level crafting writ in any major city (non-vet) so why do we have to zone to Craglorn to turn them in.
Sure, maybe if we get an enchanting or alchemy survey that day we would have to go to the appropriate zone to gather, but removing the zone specific requirement just for turn ins would reduce a bit of tedium in the game.

I have gotten a good selection of rare recipes, L1 Blues for instance that I did not know.

What bugs me is being given a writ that requires a recipe that is rare, like 5000 gold for a L1 Green Recipe rare. The latest one is Citrus Mash (or something like that) the recipe is like 5K, if you can find it, and it take a Tangerine which is also not a common ingredient.

I mean, we are making essentially MRE"s for the troops, do they have to be so picky?

Yeah, I'm looking for that recipe since we are doing writs. No luck so far.

Actually the crafting writs (at least at VR9 or higher) are great ways to acquire nirncrux via the maps you may get.

I was saddened that I didn't have to work my way through all zones. when I started, I was immediately given craglorn quests. I never had to use any other recipes or mats than the top tier, so I felt I missed out on that.

The writs themselves were so tediously samey (and the rewards so bland, and worth less than just selling the mats in guild) that I gave up on them after fulfilling a couple. I'm a crafter, but I'm working on the far more thrilling and varied fishing achievements at the moment, in the hopes that ZOS Will add something more to writs. Not that they've said they are planning to, far as I know, but... I can hope.

I'll grind these at some point, just to get the achievement, but I'm not looking forward to it, and will most likely just buy the mats.

But dammit when I find that recipie I am going to keep some on me at all times and also sell it cheap in the guild stores.

Right now, in first level it's Mazte. Not only it the recipe impossible to find, if I happen to steal and launder some Mazte, it does not show up as completing that part of the writ. I did file a bug report, but this is just plain rediculous.

Unfortunately, no since recipe drops are so random. You might try getting someone that does have it to make you a supply tho. It doesn't matter Who crafted it, just that its crafted. Guildie maybe or Provisioner friend?

    Hey folks,

We understand that not everyone is thrilled with provisioning writs as they currently stand, but we want to remind everyone that it's much more helpful to our developers if you not only state your opinion on them, but also provide a bit more detail on exactly what you dislike about them and provide any suggestions you have on improving them.

    Thank you for understanding.

That's all well and good so here's some feedback in regards to the /feedback option within the game:

Please add categories/subcategories to the Feedback window. I think it'll make the job of sifting through player feedback easier to get through...or maybe it won't. I don't have a clue of how often or how many of my fellow players use that function.

Screenshot for feedback would be cool, too.
It's really hard to say "This is a really freaking beautifully done rock mesh" when you can't SHOW the rock you're talking about.

[Yes, I actually gave that feedback. I felt a bit silly, but if a rock makes you stop mid-gallop and go "wow, that rock is just so darn WELL DONE", it needs to be put into a /feedback.]

Well, the fact that you can get a writ anywhere but can only turn them in at the level appropriate place is a blatant middle finger to characters focused on crafting and not combat. Maybe someone on the team forgot that that was one of the original selling points, being able to play a crafter. It's terribly easy to level up alchemy and provisioning both at low character level, and my latest character is stuck no longer doing writs daily because I haven't even been to the zone to turn them in at.

The writs themselves are a fairly boring middle step to gaining more of the same stuff you get when farming mats...which you need to have on hand to do writs. I guess it's nice to have another chance at rare mats each day, but it takes so little effort I don't see how it's an improvement on getting the same rate of mats from hirelings before.

As far as I can tell the only point to the writ system is keeping low combat level alts from have equal access to mats. Play your way...until we nerf it.

*edit* Bad mood at the moment. I know it's fairly easy to do writs on new chars, it just takes more effort.

It has to be CRAFTED. If it came from loot, it's not crafted. Crafted items from another character CAN be used by an alt. I use my main to feed my alts 4x foods so many writs, they already have items, and I only cooked once.

I've found the Provisioning writs one of the better ones in the game. Many times I will get Purple recipe ingedients like Frost Miriam or Bervez Juice, occassionally a Purple recipe, and yes, once in awhile a Green that I already know. However, I will agree that the Equipment writs are a total waste of time for upper level crafters.

+1 for nirncrux reward for max level equipment writs. Atm even surveys have a ridiculously low chance of finding nirncrux and the equipment writs are just not worth the time and mats.

Enchanting and provisioning are ok although it would be nice to boost enchant xp return for doing writs because it is so hard to level and less useful than it was before the nerfs.

Alchemy is not worth the return most of the time especially if you have to use a high value mat and get low value mats in return. A suggestion is to increase drop of the most expensive mats like columbine not just higher level mats which may be much less expensive and less useful.

I've honestly never received a reward for the dozens and dozens of crafting writs I've done that made it worth the trouble. You do a writ, drop it off, and for a reward get a crafting item you can't sell for 1gp.

The crafting writs need to either improve the drop rates of useful things, or add some kind of reward that allows me to save up for something useful. If, ever day I was given a crafting writ token for finishing a crafting writ, and then allowed to trade said tokens in for something that isn't waste of my time, at least the pointless grind appears to have a purpose.

Guys did you noticed the date on the original post. This thread of necroed. The provisioning writ with 1.6 is just fine. I get purple mats and recipes fairly often.

    This seems correct.

I would only add that if Devs placed nodes of all levels in all areas so that i at level 45 that started crafting writs late in my entity's development would not have to compete with entities that are currently runing quests in those areas. And why is competition happening re nodes anyways? Are writs not a form of quest? and are quest items acessable per player without competition?

If nodes are coded to cooldown per player then it wont matter if i am arriving in a low level area to obtain items like maple or high quality iron ore to complete a writ QUEST that requires it.

Theres enough acidity in the minds of players these days with issues that may not be so easily corrected as removing the PVP competition for material gathering.

Hey, open question for anyone who knows-- I have a level 7 character that I turned into my account provisioner to save on bag space and skill points on my main toons. When I do the writs I never get any vet level recipes, only recipes for levels 40-50.

Is this because my character level is low, or do writs really not provide vet level recipes as things are currently implemented?
  • FPetersonIII_ESO
I did my first few provisioning writs this last week and got a vet 10 purple recipe and the purple ingredients to craft a few of them. I was quite happy with that. We'll see if the bags keep giving me good stuff though.

I would love to see the 10000 inspiration you get changed to an amount of gold or xp once you are 50 in that skill because when you are max level in your craft the inspiration is wasted. Did not like that.

Also, having a small chance to get the costume for your craft from your writ reward bag if you are level 50 in said skill would be awesome.
