ESO is a bit boring if you're not a die hard elder scrolls fan. It has a lot of potential though. The justice system will help make things less boring I hope.

I'd consider myself a die hard Elder Scrolls fan and I do find it boring. Questing ranges between awesome to tedious but overall lacks depth. Sandbox elements that are absent are probably contributing factor to this.

Questing is very similar to SW-TOR and pretty much every other story-based game:

Go from Point A to Point B. Enroute, kill ***. Enroute, potentially pick up a side quest or two. Don't think, just follow the quest arrow on the compass. When you get to Point B, kill some more ***. Maybe kill a mini-boss or boss. Maybe pick up some item. Maybe talk to someone. But, definitely don't think; that wastes time.

The only difference between this and SW-TOR is their maps are horrible and you must click on some glowing blue thingy to end a quest.

    But, yeah, boring...

    It's the nature of all story-based MMO's.

Agreed @ Lord_Kreegan mmo questing is generally bland and so far I've found SWTOR and ESO do it best and yet you still just follow a quest marker until the quest dings. But not all story based games or rpgs have dull and linear questing. Hopefully with the justice system coming the devs might be more creative with the possibilities offered by the new systems.

I'd disagree with that. Yes, some of the quests are pretty formulaic if you extract the narrative framing them and reduce them down to the actions you take at each stage. What sells ESO's system to me (having played SWTOR and LotRO as well as several MUDs abd MOOs back in the day) is that I tend not to do that. I am far more interested in what will happen, and what the NPC will say, than in the fact that I have to track my way across the map to do it.

ESO's writing has been, on average, some of the best I have seen for a while. There are times where I have had to halt quest progression because I have to go away and think about which one of the mutually exclusive conversation options I will end up picking (the kind of consideration that prompted the Quests and Consequences thread). Sometimes this is because the options don't provide option that I think my character would actually select. At other times it is because the two options fit the situation perfectly but I still don't like either of them!

I don't think it is dying. I never have an issue finding an undaunted daily group or most other groups at end game. It is a pain to get a good trials groups sometimes but once you find one you can make connections and run with the same people. PvP is always busy, if you're on the right server that is. But that the players fault since we congregate to certain servers ourselves. Most games see a drop off after launch. This game was ultra hyped which IMHO hurt the game in the end. BUT, ZoS is doing a great job fixing things and the game is much better now than it was at start. I feel ZoS does listen to us players. It may be subtle sometimes since they can't please everyone, but they listen and make changes. Sure there is stuff that bothers me still but I most certainly still have fun and know the issues WILL be fixed.....eventually. Not the mention, like others have said, people are resubbing because they see that this game is starting to become what it should have been at release. As long as ZoS can produce an upward trend like this they will do fine and so will the game. I am not a fickle gamer who just gives up and goes on to the next big thing. I am sticking with ESO and that's that. I am not a fan boy, I simply enjoy playing the game and that's what counts! I hope people can agree.

I played all betas and 1 month after release. I have quit mostly because I could not to pay subscription with my visa and 15$ was frozen for a month. All my friends quit because of bugs that was not fixed after months after release. Now I would like to return and see hows it going but I don't feel I want to spend another 15$ just to see if this game would hold me for 30 days and I will not just drop it after 2 hours of play. B2P is the only option for this game. But they don't even want to give people a chance to return, like 5 free days to see how they improved and fixed the game. No, I don't want to pay 15$ just because I'm not sure they really did something with all the bugs and crashes and broken quests and grouping and immortal vampires and tons TONS of bots etc. I'm not sure I will play this game for 30 days.
Another big disappointment for me is that I bought this game right after beta, supported them at very beginning and not even deserve Steam copy of the game. No, I don't want to add .exe as non-steam game and I don't want to buy this game second time. For example developers of Overgrowth gave all who supported them a free copy for steam.

This game should NOT go F2P.
This game should NOT go B2P.
This game should NOT go hybrid; IMHO, the only dev team to pull that off halfway successfully was the SW-TOR team; the LotRO, DDO, Fallen Earth, STO, EQ2, AoC, Secret World, and other teams for older games simply ruined the games (although AoC plays well, the devs have never delivered on a lot of their promises, like the crafting revamp).

What this game SHOULD DO is fix its damn problems instead of constantly adding new content... unfortunately, that'd probably take a new engine.

In EP stonefalls a day ago I saw lots of low levels running around in zone chat. Almost felt like early access and so on. So either new players are coming into the game or people rolled a lot of alts like me, haha. I will say though the pop did decline / has, but hopefully it is picking up again more. I really wish people would use the LFG option so more people could get reg and vet dungeon groups going a lot more though.

That`s the reason they went with the mega server instead of seperate servers like most MMO, you will always see people so the game will feel less dead even after losing a lot of subs. Vs seperate servers where they slowly start closing and mergering servers until they are down to 1 .

My gaming community started with 1300 members playing ESO at release , now 8 months later we are down to 190 members still playing ESO .

Game is boreing, you only have really 1 path to level your characters, unlike almost every other MMO you only have 1 zone every 10 levels to go to , on a faction. I.E. playing EP . you have starting at lvl 5ish, Stonefalls, then around 15 Deshaan, then shadowfen etc

Most MMO`s have 3 or 4 zones you can choose to go to in order to quest , grind mobs etc for each 10 level range to break up the boredom. ESO you do not have this choice unless you reroll factions .

This game has only 1 story , so even if you reroll faction you have the exact same story and mage /fighters guild quest to grind through again . Atleast SWTOR each class and faction had a completly different main story quest,

So the games replay value is not really that great you either grind the same quests, and zones you have already done before, or reroll factions and still grind the main story and mages/fighters guilds quest all over again but in a new setting /Yawn .

Recently when I started a new character again and got to see the beginner zones again, I could tell by the dyes and armor which is a new player and which is a veteran ;-) Or by the horse they're riding.
I'd say it's about 50/50, new/veteran, but I could be wrong, of course.

Well, just to shed a bit of light on your wondering...

I played two closed beta weekends, then prepurchased the basic online edition.
I still don't have a "max level" character.
I still don't have any mounts.
I never use any of the pets.
I have very few dyes, because I won't become either a vamp or WW, won't PvP, and don't care much about achievements, so I don't go out of my way to get them. I just play when I can, and try to have fun while I play.
Edited by MercyKilling on May 1, 2015 3:37AM
I am not spending a single penny on the game until changes are made to the game that I want to see.
    1) Remove having to be in a guild to sell items to other players at a kiosk.
    2) Cosmetic modding for armor and clothing.
    3) Difficulty slider.
    4) Fully customizable player housing that isn't tied to anything in the game other than having the correct resources and enough gold to build. Don't tie it to PvP, guild membership, or anything at all. Oh, make it instanced so as not to take up world map space, too. Zeni screwed this one up already.
Any /one/ of these things implemented would get me spending again, maybe even subbing.

Where are you getting that number from?

But in all honesty people playing from beta are rarely the core crowd for a game. Beta testers and early switches almost always end up the most jaded regardless of the success or failure of a game because of all the bugs and grievances the put up with at the beginning. Even with that fixed we as early players and beta testers seem to go out of our way to look for bugs and issues because we can't get over the launches.

As for f2p... it won't go f2p. itll end up similar to gw2 with a thriving cosmetic shop and community launching a expansion every few years. Or pieces of an expansion every few months.

Yes and NO but the console will bring more people in it at least with the console servers. I believe PC/MAC is going to lose a lot of people heading over to console. One thing is for sure if Imperial City hits with a bunch of bugs and lag it will be game over on PC/MAC.

I would not put too much stock in forum badge counters as a way to measure how the game is doing. The counters are unreliable as a tool for measuring and the forum itself counts for only a fraction of the total player population. There is no requirement to log into the forum to play the game, or even read the forum. No matter how much someone plays the game, without logging into the forum, the badges will not update.

There have been threads asking this question since launch. ESO isn't dying. The vet zones have always been dead because alot of people avoid them whenever possible. But the lower level zones are absolutely packed. This forum is more active than I have ever seen it.

ESO is doing just fine. Could it be doing better? Yes. Is it dying? No.

Start being concerned when you no longer see activity on this forum. And right now, there is more activity here than there ever has been. And forum dwellers represent a very tiny % of people playing the game.

I hope this isn't the case, if it is I don't know why. I'm surprised this game isn't capturing more people's attention, but this is the first MMO I've played so my viewpoint is necessarily narrow.

It is really simple answer to if MMO or game gave bad review from web magazine and you have player go webpage like mmorpg.com and the say game suck it is basically downhill from there.

But problem with ESO was that many player rush all way to end content and then got upset on ZoS for not push out content so fast as the player want for ZoS was try to fix all bug and problem at start of ESO so most of those that hit end content in 1st month basically start whine and troll this forum and went to other forum and did same so ESO did not really got chance to show rest of internet what the game cna do.

Internet is worst gossip place on earth for if people dont like anything or anyone the can basically destroy that thing in less 1 day.

And yes it was big hyp about ESO but that was basically people that made that hyp when i and my gf enter ESO we know that ESO would have hard time we was play AoC when it come out and i see many of same problem in ESO that AoC hade in start even WoW hade hard time at start but the was lucky that it was so many mmo game back then that we have today.

name them, with specific level ranges.

because MOST mmorpg's do NOT have multiple options at any given level. WoW does, at SOME levels. Wrath of the Lich King was the last time there was more than one zone to quest in at any given level, and it was only at the very beginning area of that expansion. The rest followed a linear path as did cata, panda and draenor.

    so..name them.

The end game is dying. Many progession-focused PvE guilds are hemorrhaging members, and some have dissolved completely. NA PvP sometimes seems so dead that you would think we have too many campaigns. Between the bugs, the lag, and the opaque/inconsistent API, there's not much left for those of us who have been playing for over 6 months.

The new players are enjoying themselves and console will undoubtedly sell alotta copies. The PC side of this game sometimes feels like it's in its death throes.
