Random. I have Engine Guardian in Light Infused, and Maw of the Infernal in Light Reinforced.

If only crafters could convert helm types (heavy to light) or change traits. Back to farming Dark Caverns some more, I am so tried of that last boss.

Well at least you get SOME drops. After 40+ DC runs I still have to see one.

I am NA DC, but I found my drop rate when way up when I changed from tanking\healing the instance to dps. (I am a Templar)

Its 'felt' like the loot was based on damage done, the more % of the boss I kill compared to the rest of my group, the more likely I would get a helm. Sure its only a small sample size, but almost every run I did, the tank got no helm unless they were doing a lot of dps as well

It's RNG, pure RNG. I run daily undaunted and I helped a guild-mate farm vet CoA for Skoria's helm and as a pure healer (no shards, no dps, not a single damaging attack) I got the helmet three times before he got it once. To date I've got six different styles of helmets (from each of the dungeons) and five shoulders (3 in sturdy, grrr). Healers are apparently in demand for pledges so you may reconsider, but I think whatever works for you is fine. Good luck!

Just to clear up any curiosity and echo a few others: Our static group does these all the time, we all have more than one of each set and even break down most of the stuff we get now. So I can assure you, they randomly drop in all three types (light/medium/heavy) and random traits. It doesn't matter what class you play, it's just RNG (which I prefer over tokens personally - I don't think it's about getting what you want asap, but playing the pledges and having fun). It's really not that hard to get them, though I wonder sometimes if farming the same one over and over on the same character gives a lesser RNG rate after watching poor Trip suffer.

I am annoyed by this also, in about 10 gold keys I've gotten 3 shoulders, 2 of them the same set. On top of that I've done 20ish runs of Malubeth, so 30 vet dungeons, 0 helms. 0. In those groups 7-8 people have gotten helms, most of them their second or third of that set..

I don't mind RNG, but it does feel like there is something weird going on. Too many people with tons of helms and no shoulders and vice versa. Seeing as "random" is never really random on computers, I'm wondering if there is an actual problem here, it is possible that people aren't getting a true and fair random roll for their loot. Especially if a dev decided to do something "clever" with the seed input to the random function..

I love this game, but this particular grind is making me sick of ESO. Especially when you go back and watch the videos pros showing off every set within a week of 1.5 launching..

Sounds like you're one of the lucky ones...a healer friend of mine who REALLY wants Bogdan helmet ran Elden Hollow way over 100 times by now..and he still has to see the helmet.

So no, this rng is NOT fine. There should be NO way that you CAN'T get what others get on first-tenth try after 100+ runs of the place(40+ didn't feel very encouraging either). It's just ridiculous and it really isn't fun, it's beyond frustrating.

Also, I finally got my DC helmet...on run ~42 in medium, only type of armor I never use-.-

after collecting about 35 pieces myself (I know, trying to find that one perfect helmet, and getting lucky with shoulders) and collecting a LOT of data from my friends, the distribution of drops seems to be:

IF you get a drop, your chances are:
66% Medium
17% heavy
17% light

@ZOS_JessicaFolsom‌, is this working as intended? And if so, can you comment on why people at ZOS are so obviously attempting to push stamina builds? Do you think it's fair that the distribution of medium armor drops seems to be twice as likely as both light and heavy armor drops combined?

Maybe I just got lucky but I have about 5 hats from CoA, and I got lucky and got the shoulders on the first day or two. Prepare to be disappointed, the set is only marginally better than other gear in trash pulls, and only because the "meters" do AoE. On single target fights, the set is not really a DPS increase because it procs so inoften and you are giving up weapon/spell damage or 4% crit.

The hat I do have is sturdy though (LOL), so If you ever need a group for farming, hit me up. I've done about 75ish runs and can bumrush through that place in about 17 minutes by aggroing everything, using inhale and corrosive, and dragging the entire damn place up to the bosses and AoEing everything down.

I've been trying to get the spellweave stuff in preparation for the champion system and removal of soft caps, and for testing... still waiting on a divines/infused jerkin. Talk about bad drops.... the drops on some of those pieces are worse than the hats. Lately i've been going in there solo just to grind the first 3 bosses and trash.

I don't care about how much DPS it deals, I care about a random 700+ nuke in PvP. It is overpoweringly strong in PvP.

Good luck man, I already quit running CoA after 34 runs. Its not enough to make me cancel my sub yet, but content like this is frustrating and won't last.

It´s the worst reward system i have encountered in in 14 years of playing mmos.

I've continued to farm CoA and have dropped a combined total of two hats, one is heavy sturdy and another is medium infused... I've done about 40 or so runs now (a few attempts at the speed run or no death, but something always seems to go wrong) and have seen quite a few hats drop. RNG is RNG, most of the items I've found have the sturdy trait and are medium, I'm literally using hats for research as a heavy well-fitted Bogdan hat is useless to me. All in all I find the system tiresome.. But that might be because often I PUG my runs and PUGs aren't always smooth. I've dropped several hats now and got several shoulder pieces from chests on my two characters, but the two medium sturdy maw shoulders I got recently is pretty disheartening, more so given I had a dry week prior.

@GreyBrow‌ I might annoy you for those CoA runs.. need a better hat and some achievements.

The fun is officially over. There should be Tokens/Points/Reputation you earn by completing the Pledges, and by doing enough you can choose what armor you would like to invest in.

- There are 9 different Undaunted Sets
- They drop in Heavy, Medium and Light Armor
- There are 9 different Armor Traits

As mentioned in my post above, i play ESO to PvP.

And now it feels like there is no way i can get my hands on the Blood Spawn set without pure "luck". I have completed all the dungeons, i have unlocked achievements i never cared for and will finish the Undaunted skill line this week.

Still not a single piece, no Blood Spawn Shoulders from Gold Key Chest AND so far no Helmet from Spindleclutch.

All i'm left with is the feeling of hopelessness. Its not fun anymore, i don't enjoy this anymore and its sad. I would love to incorporate a 2 piece set in my current build. I can see the potential some of these sets have in Cyrodiil, however it seems i will never get the chance to try them because i am "unlucky".

I've completed only about 20 Gold keys but in that time I've only had ONE Shoulder drop and it's Light - Reinforced EG. It's not a bad trait by any means and I use it to both tank and heal (Helm I have in Heavy - Infused). As for the Helms, the EG Helm and multiple Malubeth Helms (most are Medium - Sturdy) are all I've had drop after quite a few runs, but not near the number some of you post. It's certainly discouraging to say the least. I think the bigger problem with many of the mechanics/systems in ESO is that they are implemented by game devs who either haven't played MMO's before or don't even play ESO themselves. This seems fairly obvious as to many of the things they put in the game that just make you scratch your head wondering what they were thinking.

I'm not bashing ESO or the devs, but I would like to see them acknowledge player's dissatisfaction more often and become MUCH more transparent. ESO is a unique breed of MMO in that it has a huge TES following and many of those are unhappy with ESO due to many questionable game mechanics/systems put in place by the devs. Paul Sage said they're looking at making ESO more of a Sandbox style game and if that's true they will HAVE to change much of how they implement things into the game.

Same, 61 chests now and nothing. I have is 5 medium shoulders and 1 light (so assuming shoulder rate is only 10% or I'm just unlucky?). Sturdy and well-fitted traits, not even one piece from any of the sets I want.

Agreed with earlier poster, this is by far the worse reward system I have ever encountered and I played mmorpg's for 15 years

At least in other games I always had a secondary route to obtain simliar gear or item, when getting systemically screwed by rng for months. Or the actual gear was farm-friendly. Stuff made sense. But here, there's no point even trying to get head pieces, because I cant get any shoulders to begin with.

I think the helms themselves are fine. I am personally annoyed that the dps set (and even master's bow from DSA) drop for my healers and tanks and I have yet to get one, but the point is you CAN farm these items.

The bigger problem comes in with the gold keys and the chests, more often than not I get ornate purple items. The issue is it is only once per day, no more. No matter what you do you have that one single time per day to earn a gold key and open a chest. You can stack up on keys but I saved 6 then opened 6 chests and got 4 vendor items 2 undaunted set items, I break or sell all of these. I will say my luck has been better than many peoples, I have 4 complete H&S sets, Engine guardian one I got 3 separate times so all in all I've received 6 total head sets. Granted not one I wanted and with the exception of guardian, which I had options with the 3 sets, not one with traits I cared for.

Nerien'Eth's set I got pretty early and I was excited to have a complete set in only a couple of days. Until I used it. When I discovered that for a dps set it significantly lowered my dps.

Since I have a tank spec for my NB the engine guardian set is absolutely great, I wanted to like Malubeth's with the life tap but after testing and comparing the two Malubeth is just plain useless when compared. It procs so little and heals for such a small amount. The sphere pet from guardian gives more health and also gives resources, one at a time of course but with a 1/3 chance of proc'ing healing sphere I still got it to proc more often than the life tap.

Maw of the inferno...ugly as crap helm but I will say watching people jump back from the daedroth that spawns is just plain funny, hearing them in TS is even funnier! Pets don't show on any parses so it is hard to judge how much damage the pets themselves do, since I got this set in heavy I lost too much crit so haven't really tested it for dps. For the comedy value though this one is fun.

My luck so far has been fairly better than many other peoples, even so 1 key per day with such a minuscule chance to get the set shoulders you want (don't even care about the trait at this point) is just too low. I am surprised that I haven't gotten the healer shoulders yet, you know considering I'm not a healer at all and have absolutely 0 in resto skill tree. I mean DSA likes to give the bow and dagger to people who only raised those two trees with the skill books lying around.

I remember in Aion when the players found out the devs had limits on the amount of X items that could drop in Y hrs

Say item X has a %3 chance to drop per chest, there was a secondary limit that only Y number of them could enter the game per day. So players who opened the chest at the start of the 'game day' had a %3 chance to get the drop, but players at the end of the 'game day' has %0 as the limit per day was reached.

Lots of mmo's have there 'duel' limit systems. Wonder if this happens in ESO.
I started saving my golden keys and used them straight after the pledges reset and so far 4 days in a row, I have got monster set shoulders.

Still, random is random and it maybe nothing but I am going to keep doing that as is does appear to be more 'lucky'

Nope. Run #30 just trolled me and gave me an Embershield Helm instead.

EDIT: Run #31, nothing. My healer who has done ~18 runs has 3 Valkyn helms.
EDIT: Run #33, nothing. One of my DPS just deconstructed a medium Valkyn Helmet duplicate.
EDIT: Run #34, hardmode speed run 21 minutes no deaths no helm.

50 runs in vet DC for light sturdy helmet. I don't care it's sturdy anymore, it's light, yay(it's also awesome).

If you think you're unlucky, that healer buddy of mine ran 200+ EH for Bogdan helm by now. Nothing. Not even medium sturdy.

Dear ZOS, PLEASE do something about it, it's ridiculous. It should not be even theoretically possible to NOT get what you want after 100+ runs when others get it on run 1-10.

This seriously is a terrible system. I know a guy who ran dailies on 3 characters everyday since they came out and got a total of 1 pair of shoulders until last week when he got a flood of RNG luck and got nearly every different one. I have run the dailies at least once a day since they've been out and I've still only gotten 3 different shoulder drops, none of which are the ones I want.

There is nothing good to be said about a system in which you could theoretically NEVER get anything. And with the crappy traits available, and random weights and enchants, they need to be BoP or something.
