an emperor based achievement dye... i think i just lost a heep of respectRubin red is emperor, guess this will be the rarest
Unfortunately acquiring dyes is as I hoped it wouldn't be. It's entirely achievement based. That is they are unlocked by accomplishing certain achieves, not purchasable with achievement points.
This is going to heavily restrict which dyes are available to a lot of players because a lot of the dyes (especially the rarer ones) seem to be PvP or Craglorn based achievements ! So if you're not into PvP or not obsessed with Craglorn you won't be opening these dyes in your dyes window.
The other point is you never physically own a dye. (as far as I can tell) you get the achievement and the dye is unlocked. This means there will be no trading in dyes !
In itself this is double edged blessing. OK we aren't going to get the usual idiots spamming chat trying to sell white or black dyes (usually the most popular)for a small fortune, but neither are we going to have the ability to get those dyes we long to have but don't have the achieves for.
Rare dyes from PvP ?
Makes sense.
Oh wait, my bad.. That doesn't make any sense at all, not even a little bit. In fact, that's one of the worst ideas I've seen in MMO's since 1996.
WTG Zenimax. You managed to take a good idea and bake it into a brick of crap, yet again.
Until you're going to make a PvE-only phase of Cyrodil, you can't base achievements on anything in there. It's OPTIONAL content, right now. Why? Because 100 jerknuggets can prevent you from getting it, if they're so inclined. And yes, they're inclined!
Good review, and if most of the dyes are based off of PVP and Craglorn achievments, they can keep them as far as I'm concerned. Just not sure why they feel they need to 'restrict' so many things. Whatever.

Or they're not since MOST of the dyes are tied to achievements you'll get without even trying to get them while you level up through the main storyline, do crafting, explore the world, etc.

There are only a few PvP (4) and Trial (6) achievements. The vast majority are achievements that the average player will already have or will get easily just by playing the main story. Most are for exploring the different zones and completing the quests in those zones. The are also tying a lot of the colors to achievement that are not currently in the game. Just becoming a vampire, for example, is an achievement that will be added and will award you a black dye.

I have boundless respect for people who will come back and admit when they are wrong.
The OP is using sensationalism its really not your fault. OP should be edited to include the fact that literally about 90% of the dyes or more are either accidentally obtained or so easy its a joke IE. LEVEL VAMPIRE TO 10 LOLOLOL
Also it looks like for every extremely rare dye there is a counterpart that is so close in color that nobody will really know the difference when they see you walking through town. Its more of a token if anything.

#1 - Yes, all achievements for Dyes will be grandfathered in, even the ones they are adding in 1.3.
#2 - Pretty much everyone will end up having access to about 90%+ of the dyes by the time one of their account characters reaches VR12 (or w/e the upcoming change to the vet system entails). And that's just doing normal things like questing, exploring, etc.
