Memory Leak in New 1.1.2 Patch

  • Sidecar
    Sidecar
Guys,i found the fix i think, all i ask is zenomax buy me new pc cause this one sucks.....
    SOLUTION:

In Windows 7, when running audio or video player software, CPU usage will reach above 80% instantly. This phenomenon is caused by " audiodg.exe " process. Sometimes, high CPU usage by this process might lead to fake crash. Here is a solution to this problem:

    1. Right-click "Speakers" icon in the taskbar and then select "Playback devices"
2 . Under "Playback" tab, right-click "Speakers", and select "Properties".
    3. Click on " Enhancements" tab under "Speakers Properties". Check " Disable all enhancements " check box .

I played a few hours tonight and it was fine.

I take care of my game machine though. 16GB RAM. 500 GB SSD (and of course a motherboard that supports the speed.)

I also saw the memory leak tough, but not so heavy as Ive seen reports. Maybe because I dont use any addons?

One funny thing happend and then I logged, everything turned purple! Lol

On good notes. I got a monster of machine and somehow they made ESO look BETTER. Brighter, clearer, detailed, cant explain it. I have a good graphic card and Asus 27" monitor. The game defenetly looked better. Not sure how to describe it

And something cool happend. There was a server wide message, or zone, dont know. from a GM called GM_Kill-Bots or something. SAid that the next 15 mins, anyone who reports directly to him, he teleports and destroy the bot. I was looking hard to find a bot so I could see that!

This message keept going for a good hour and what I heard in zone chat, people saw it and it feelt gooooooooood.

The message also wasnt as polite as they usally are. Said something "Help us fight these vermin and report to GM "name" for destruction of the sighted bot.

Unless everyone was drunk, then alot of people got to see this.

Well, spent most of the night (I am in EU) on these forums in a very interesting thread. And also looking for confirmed bugs/errors thats needs to be fixed.

I expect the memory leak to be hotfixed very soon. And what other thing seams to be wrong.

Oh, there are people playing in the new highlvl zone btw.

And for some DAMN reason, Zenimax gave in and lowered the difficulty level on the new NPC Vet mobs....bah. But they did NOT lower the exp nono.....

For me, it seamed to lag less! I didnt really have a problem with lag, but something they did improved stuff and something messed it up.

I am sure, while we all get our sleep, Zenimax with all possible hired personell are working their butts off to fix this.

How do I know that Zenimax is working on every single bug fix they can? because they want us as customers. And even though I see negative stuff here, most of you want to be customers, just be able to play, right?

Tomorrow I am gonna make a night blade alt. My first alt! Before the night blade fix gets patched, I want to see if they are so broken and cant be played like people say ;-)

    Good night/morning everyone.

EU players, see ye in the game!

I am using windows 7 32bit currently. Like the OP said I can watch the memory increase.
I tried a quick fix - creating 10 GB of Virtual Ram writing it to my HD but it seems that the game does not use the windows pathing and have made their own - which given the nature and size of this game is not a surprise. ( My fix was not a fix - but it would mean windows could have an extra 10GB of ram to adress before crashing)
    - I strongly suspect that the 64 bit machines have this problem too - but due to the nature of 64 bit architecture they have 32x the "address's" so If I crash once each 30 mins - a 64 bit machine will crash once every 16 hours. It comes down to sloppy programming. This is a pretty big issue - its making the game quite unplayable for anyone using a 32 bit machine. It has been similar since release - but with the last patch it got a whole lot worse.
In the beta I was using a 64 bit build and never had any of these troubles..

@Skylandra‌ I'm using a 64 bit Win7 OS and am exp similar memory hemorrhage since the update. Crashing when alt-tabbing. My friend @fifthbeatle has an almost identical rig to mine - no mem-hem for him. Praying for a hot-fix some time tonight so I can get some game time in this weekend, hoping they are not going to wait til Monday night maint to fix this issue. (Oceanic timezone)

None of the supposed fixes have worked for me, including editing my user settings and disabling all add-ons. Takes about 20 minutes before I'm wading through crippling lag.

Ah, I got win 7, 64 bit. Several friends keep trying to get me to change to throwup 8...I mean windows 8, no way.

A serous question thought, did anyone else experience LESS lag..smoother game and better graphics? That stunned me. Since everyone else is lagging (My 16GB ram is probebly the reason for that)

I cant explain directly, but everything looked, brighter, detailed, better. Like it!

Yes, I definitely got an FPS boost from the patch. This is due to the game now having a properly exclusive fullscreen mode. The "fullscreen" we had before was actually windowed fullscreen, which comes with a performance penalty (in Windows anyway, other OS's not so much).

Also, from what I've heard, the memory leak only happens if you wait on the character select screen for a period of time before logging into the game. This would explain why it's not affecting me - I pick my character right away.

My game didn`t crash a single time before the patch yesterday. Since patch update I can`t play longer than 60 minutes before my computer will crash with blue screen. Performance goes down the longer I play until bluescreen ends it finally.

Official reply please, that`s really concerning issue.

I put that question to every dev. Seems no one tests them. remember the good ole days where you just pop something into a machine and play it? I miss that

I'm not disagreeing with the point you are trying to make, but did you never try to load a game onto a computer of some sort using a cassette player? 20 minutes of listening to whistles and beeps only for it to fail to load (I'm thinking back to the late '70s early '80s here)... not that I'm disagreeing with you, but stuff not working is hardly a new phenomenon :D

You have heard wrong. I choose my character straight away each time I make it into the char select screen and no difference is made.

I don't know then. All I know is, I have not experienced any memory leaks. Even after a 5 hour play session it was only using 1.2gb of RAM.

Actuallly the memory leak comes from both character window and the new background pic they have. I tested what stole my RAM and that popup doesnt take much but 1.5GB per 30 mins or so gets lost.

I will be very surprised if this isnt mostly fixed later today (9 am in EU land) and later we battle in Cyra with exp flowing in :-(

I am very wierd. I like SLOW exp. Still ESO is fine, you have to work for your levels, or like me, just play and you end up leveling all of a sudden heh.

I have been staying up most of the night with forums here. and one thing I have noticed. Even among the now local "whiners" and negative people, it does seam like the VAST majority on the FORUMS wants to play, just get rid of the bugs. There of course there are the odd person who said tonight they quiting because of the shield bash "nerf" lol.

But most seams frustrated that they cant play, sure turning towards zenimax for the fix, but EVERY time poor Jessica been posting, she gets greeeting with ALOT of yays! And dare I say it....hope?

Lets hope Zenimax fixes the important things....so the game moves on....cause I really feel to START to be part of a community. And I havnt been in anything like that since EverQuest.

I've enjoyed TESO 5-8 hours at a time without any issue prior to this update. I've played similar games on a far crappier machine without this kind of incident. Maybe it's an issue with the client? I'm scratching my head same as you, trying to figure out what could be the common thread. Could it be a problem with people who had the beta client? Don't know.

To confirm they haven't fixed this yet.
I logged in this morning to test some things the ZOS customer care guy wanted me to try over another issue and some of my guildies said they had fixed the leak with a hot fix.

I played for about an hour before total lockup, eventually back to desk top and then everything on the machine froze solid again needing a complete hard reset.

So they rolled back the difficulty of the vet content but haven't managed to sort out machine breaking coding issues they introduced. And it's a national holiday in the US. So I guess nothing is going to happen until sometime next week.

I shall be asking for an extension to my game time as I'm not prepared to play at the moment. These aren't back to desk top crashes they are serious and potentially machine breaking ones.

No matter if login screen or not, its just one way to reproduce it.
But as well after 30 minutes running around in certain areas you will have severe mem leaks since the new patch and all you can do is leaving the game or kill the process and start ESO again.

Well this work around works for me but i really hope they will patch a fix soon because almost every 30 minutes i run into mem leaks.

I'm experiencing the tremendous memory leak and lag as well. I'm really frustrated 'cause I was really enjoying the game, but right now I'm paying for something I cannot play anymore.
They need to fix these issues quickly or downgrade to the last patch. How can they possibly NOT test anything before uploading it? Unbelievable.

    Very good explanation Alzarian.

Might be just me, this is how it looks while playing the game on my laptop:

mem usage (launcher grows and shrinks but at the end grows bit by bit)
    2rk8vt4sb9dk.png

proc usage between 1 and 10% on launcher, goes on and off.

Confirmed by my task manager as well. ESO exe keeps sucking memory from my computer just on the character selection screen. The launcher seems stable at the moment. No add ons loaded at the moment. This must be corrected ASAP. This is a very serious issue.

If what I've read is correct, the memory leak only starts if you spend a lot of time on the character selection screen. If you select your character quickly and log in, the leak never starts. This is definitely the case for me, as my RAM usage was 1.4gb after a 5 hour play session earlier.

That doesn't work, I spent 10 seconds in character select and after 2 hours my RAM usage was over 26 gigs.

I am getting regular crashes now PLAYING not sitting on character select longer than it take to select and load a new character.

WHEN ARE YOU GOING TO FIX IT ZOS?

You posted yesterday you knew what's causing it how many more crashes is it going to take for you to get round to fix it?

It was appalling enough such an easily spotted critical bug was allowed out of program development, let alone your internal QA (I use the term loosely, the quality of your QA department wouldn't be tolerated where I work) and then the PTS .. but to now be 48 hours after people started having this problem and still no fix would be laughable if it wasn't so bloody aggravating.

    This is from another thread:
    Joolio wrote: »

I'm pretty sure it has to do with these two settings in the usersettings text file. There were freezes that used to happen before for 5-6 seconds and the way you fixed it was to set SET RequestedNumThreads "-1" to 0 and save the file (has to do with how the game handles on multicore processors)

Now that setting is gone and has been replaced by 2 different settings:

    SET RequestedNumJobThreads "-1"
    SET RequestedNumWorkerThreads "-1"

I don't know which to edit to 0 or if you should edit both... I'm hoping someone can narrow this down.

My game was freezing. Then I set both to 0. Game works flawless.

Same here. Set both to 0 and now the memory in task manager for eso.exe stabilizes at 1.6 gb. Additionally, I no longer have the short bursts of freeze-up/lag and windows no longer locks up causing me to have to force a reboot.
