And yes, I played for several hours, before windows informed me that ESO had maxed my memory, and I should close it before I lose data lol

I could play 10+ hours before the patch, now it seems like it's affecting me, this "memory leak"

    Game doesnt use hero engine.

Hasnt since an early early alpha build if I recall right.

And SWTOR doesnt(and never has) leak like this.

haha someone doesn't remember the first (almost year) of the game where Taris, (or whatever jungle) zone with the undead plague victims, would basically hard lock your computer if you sat in the zone for too long because of the massive memory leak they had.
And that makes it ok for ZoS to have the same issue? No, it doesn't, they are supposed to LEARN from other companies mistakes, not repeat them.

Indeed, swtor had a HUGE memory leak streaching from beta well into the end of first year. guess he must have joined in late since he never noticed it.

Confirmed here as well. 32gb ram, didn't let it go to full but it would have filled up within 2 hours.

Quick update - Jessica from ZOS has posted elsewhere saying they've identified the issue and what is causing it, and they are looking to fix it soon. They advise staying off the character select screen for extended periods.

It made my system freeze, had to do a hard shut down, start in safe mode, do a disk cleanup AND a disk defragmentation because it fragmented my system 5 percent! >_< I am NOT playing this game till this is fixed.

So after 6 hours of gameplay CPU is 22.4% usage, RAM is 2395 MB. The launcher is still turned off. I can conclude that ESO has no appreciable memory leak on my system.

Please quote me where I said that makes it okay for ZOS to have a memory leak. It's cool, take your time.

I didn't say you said that. I was asking, and answering in the same sentence. :)

Confirmed by my task manager as well. ESO exe keeps sucking memory from my computer just on the character selection screen. The launcher seems stable at the moment. No add ons loaded at the moment. This must be corrected ASAP. This is a very serious issue.

That started 2 days ago for me.. longer time online and it got worse till DC and crash.. full restart and waiting for 10-15 min did it.. for the next 10 min.
since today i cant log in 1 of my chars.. i checked before i loged in:
    eso.exe 180k-200k
    taskmanager after crash(login of char)
eso.exe 1.5mil and rising - forced computer restart
    win7 64 6GB RAM

I really had hope for this game.,,,

So yeah. Only two things running.

    Resource Monitor and ESO.

It hasn't gotten this high this quickly before, though it *has* gotten past 2GB before. 4 hours playing this alt.

Had to kill the game and restart it.

^^ I was trying to report a minor quest bug but when it wouldn't open the panel in a timely manner I popped my resource monitor open and went "what the ....." and had to screencap it for you.

Are most of you guys on Windows PC? I am on Mac and we (Mac users) over in the Mac Techincal Support sub-forum have been discussing a bad memory leak since beta.

And so have some of us Windows users. :/

Before patch my game ran rock solid. Since patch, the game eats my memory up in under 20 minutes. It caches hard and goes total apeshit on my harddrive. Shutting the game down means a 20 minute wait of a black screen before my desktop reappears.

We need to growl louder about that issue.

It's actually hindering and prohibiting players "to play", litteraly.

They have responded in the general discussion thread.

That said, 2h on a single character and memory usage back up to 2.2gb.

    Absurd.

I'll say it again for the humpteenth time. ESO Does NOT use the Hero Engine! They only used it at first to see how assets would perform in a MMO enviroment, it was a test bed!

Thank you, at least one other person understands the role Hero Engine took in the development of this game. The final game does NOT use Hero Engine, or any code from it, in any way. It is a completely custom engine.

Also, the supposed memory leak is NOT affecting me. I'm using a 4770k and a 780ti. I played for 5 hours straight earlier, checked memory usage in task manager before I logged off, and memory usage was at 1.4gb. I have 16gb in my machine.

If what I've read is correct, the memory leak only starts if you spend a lot of time on the character selection screen. If you select your character quickly and log in, the leak never starts. This is definitely the case for me, as my RAM usage was 1.4gb after a 5 hour play session earlier.

I've changed my view back from "true full screen" to windowed full screen to avoid the crash when I try to alt tab out, allowing me to make this post.
I have both the client and launcher running. Experienced bad lag again today. Have submitted another report. Can confirm the mem leak since the update.
    eso.exe: 347,928K
    Bethesda.net_Launcher.exe*32:33,984K
Both the client and the launcher crashed while writing this comment.

There is definitely something wrong. Ever since the patch my PC is overloading, no free memory, despite turning on SLI my FPS dropped, wierd loading screen, cant control alt delete and navigate to browser easily like I was doing before as everything goes so slow.

unfortunately my machine does not run well anymore the game after the update 1.1.2.990524 - that's sad, because yesterday i was able to play with high settings very very well, and now it's horrible even in low specs. Cyrodiil is now out of question, i tried to play there today and when there's action the game hangs or runs in slow motion. also, i cannot use alttab any longer and keep the game running in the back.

i have no idea what they did to the game but the minimum specs now must higher than the recommended when i payed for the game. maybe they did something good for the ones who have high end pcs, but if they keep it this way, it'll be time to quit :\
  • Elki_Wilderglas
I don't know that it is entirely to do with the machine you are playing on as my friend and I have nearly identical laptops yet I'm having the mem leak issue and he isn't.
