I did buy the regular one because I appreciate that they're trying something new and I wanted to support the game and give them a chance to follow through this year. I want to like what they're doing, I really do.
But, going forward the premium offerings would have to be quite a bit more interesting to entice me to pay again. There are a couple items of interest in the premium tier, but there's a scary amount of filler / junk in there. At least from the perspective of a long-term player.
They will also need to work out the bugs and rough edges of the tome system. It hasn't been a great roll-out. There are significant differences in points awarded between some of the tasks, and it feels too rng-based.
I got low-point tasks that are just tedious and boring, while others I know got high point tasks that are too difficult for them or not content that interests them. It seems like there is a limited variety of tasks. Re-rolls should not give you the same task again. Once again they have a system that heavily relies on their flawed rng foundation, where the results are absolutely not random and players regularly get stuck in repeating patterns.
Finally, having it so you have to repeat each task multiple times is boring. Standing there in a huge crowd waiting for the same boss to spawn over and over again so that it can melt in 3 seconds is the laziest, worst, unengaging "content". More re-rolls, more variety, more generic tasks and choices (like "kill any WB in these zones" as opposed to "kill a specific WB over and over").
And most of all, the actual content that's coming is going to have to be interesting and engaging, or this system is all for naught. I've always said, if I'm enjoying the game and actively playing it, and others are doing so and the vibe is lively and happy, I will spend. But I'm not going to force myself to repeat dry old content just to grind a tome when there's nothing new to do.
I am just not having fun at this time, and it's not great.
Looked at the rewards and just none of it looked interesting at all so I have not.
Honestly some of the best Battlepasses i've seen have been Marvel Rivals. They have big battle passes that last the whole season usually with one thing i want for $10 sure whatever, then they do small passes with things i want.
I haven't bought a league of legend battle pass in awhile (especially when its a champ i dont play for the skins) and Diablo 4 cosmetics are just kind of bad.
Like with 2026's pass, I did it while holding my nose.
It really felt a bit icky to buy it since I'm not really happy with ESO's current model of "play alone together" and how they're cutting the things I like (Dungeons, new Classes) to focus on honestly what is ESO's weakest point (the writing). Plus, this whole "we're reducing FOMO and we will not add any content that is gone after the Season ends" is totally false when pretty well every big thing they announced in the reveal except Crimson Veldt is going to delete itself like the Wall did. The Night Market? Gone after 7 weeks, but at least it returns for another period before going away again. The High Seas ships and Underwater stuff? That's an event, not a permanent zone, so that's gonna be gone after that's over.
It's like the Wall all over again: Sure it was fun, but why spend the dev time to make something that's going to be deleted when that time could be used to make something that's not going to cease to exist after a few weeks?
But I bought it for one thing specifically: the Personality. It looks so good and I know exactly which character I need it for, but I'm still praying they're gonna fix it.
We told them on PTS that the permanent prop weapon clipping was an issue, and they changed it by... removing the unique sneak animation? Uhh...
I get that replacing the prop weapon with the character's equipped 2H is "beyond the scope," but as a premium Personality, they really should have someone from the art team sit down and get that to work. If they did that, even if it was just for that Personality and just with a 2H equipped on the active bar, that Personality would be a 15/10.
At least it is still possible to use the emote weapon replacement trick so somewhat see what it would look like in a perfect world. But it does only make me want the character to be able to walk like that always.
Upgraded with tokens. But did I get it right? Premium+bonus only gives one costume? Mounts and personality seems to be in regular premium tier. Definitely won't be buying +bonus version in the future if it is like that.
@ "No but I might purchase one of them in the future depending on rewards avaiable on next season(s)."
Admitely, I was tempted by the personality, but I won't use it on my main I don't really like that very 2 handed sword in the personality.
Basically I have everything worth on my main now anyway (save a surprise), and gone is the idea to be a completionist for everything.
I am also on the fence of quiting, and the cosmetics will be forever lost if I leave.
By chance the game doesn't absolutely need 'my' money on that to continue its route.
I will pay ESO+ as usual if I stay though, so I am not totally playing a free game here.
And I still might pay the pass the next seasons as voted, if I don't get it directly thanks to my ESO+.
(The game still serves the purpose to change my mood to good in between, so not sure it will be a good decision to now quit though^^ And what would be the forums without my havoc....).
Maybe down the line I might. I see some things from the Premium sections Id like, but nothing "mandatory" like some furniture and skill styles have been in the past.
I was reading the Reddit page where that discussion thread happened (I don't have a Reddit account, so what I'm seeing is whatever is on public display). I almost missed Gina's comment/thread because it was hidden and had to be manually expanded due to having so many downvotes. *LOL+SMDH*
People are NOT happy, and this is absolutely on ZOS.
I was almost tempted by the wolf mounts, but the neon markings just put me off. Otherwise there was nothing that tempted me enough to upgrade this season. Some nice deco and cosmetics I'll use in the base free tier, so I'll just try and grab those instead.
I'm happy the paid tier stuff isn't really essential and feels very optional so far, hopefully that continues. If I see stuff I really want I'm okay about paying for a pass, but I'm a fussy cow so I skipped it this time.
For me the premium rewards are worth the 13 quid it costs to upgrade, especially since that's only once per quarter. The bonus reward this time didn't seem worth it to me.
Also, the good news is that the upgrade purchased once applied to both the EU and NA servers, as I play on both.
