Re: Should base game overland difficulty be taken on par with DLC overland difficulty?
I would actually do the opposite and set DLC overland difficulty base to match base game overland difficulty. That way the people who for whatever reason like the difficulty level of base game overland (yes, they do exist) can set it to level 1 and have their preferred difficulty, while someone who thinks DLC overland is ideal could set it to level 2.

Maybe in someways, but DK tank, you know that part of DK identity that was well established since the start of the game, is poop. The prior existing tanking synergy was completely robbed. DK is no longer a go to tank option.
I agree that playing it feels clumsy now too. I've exclusively played DK, become emperor, become grand overlord, earned millions of telvar during events, and even pushed to the top of the BG leaderboard a couple of times. Now I cant even tell what the heck Im doing in combat due to bad sounds, visual overload, and the absence of feedback that makes sense.
What a mess that is being called a "refresh." The heavy attack thing you bring up is egregious. How can turning a passive ability into a heavy attack based proc possibly be a good idea in any universe?
There need to be design team members like yourself OP.

You're right there was a host of other issues. But that was a big one and they have discussed it multiple times.
When I say "functionality wise", I mean it worked, not meaning it was liked by players.
I don't think those same issues would occur with instances for "difficulty" though. With the original Alliance instances you were locked in unless you created a whole new character. With difficulty you would be able to change instances at will to join whoever you wanted.
No. I agree that they could fix the issues with how it worked at launch. That's a good example of something they could change to make it go over better a second time around.
I'm just talking about the launch state of the game and why it lead to not separating players becoming a core design philosophy for them. The launch state of the idea was absolutely not fine.
Re: Jubilee Reward Boxes should go back to how they were two years ago.
I am really pleased with the event.
Good length of the event. The 5 min cooldown ensures there's still good drops of boxes, but not so much they become meaningless.
I like the furniture, except for a couple of things I destroy when I get them.
Mostly I like that the rewards don't drop like crazy, cluttering everything while becoming so worthless they're not worth selling, and the ones that I speculate might be later, are saved on mules (which is such a bother), and they don't really become worth selling because they have overdropped so much. It's just an inventory management nightmare that remains worthless - but this year is much nicer for me.
When they were only earned by doing dailies and gave better rewards the boxes were still limited but actually felt good to get. These last 2 years of boxes don’t feel good at all with filler loot like furnishings and all of the worthwhile stuff dropping in stacks of 1.
I’ve been playing for a long time and, while there was a price drop on materials and what not for a little while after the pre 10 year anniversary jubilee, they do go back up again. But you have 1 pve event annually that is actually fun for vet players.
[Tamriel Tome] Major translation error in german + french + russian localization
The new seasonal task in the tamriel tome bares a major translation error that will keep any german player that doesn't utilize the english localization of the game from ever finishing the new seasonal task.
The german version reads, directly translated into english, like this: "Finish 1.000 endeavours in a group"
Which has absolutely nothing to do with the actual task at hand: "Kill 1.000 Foes in the Gold Coast, Hew's Bane, or Wrothgar."
Now, you may have noticed that this is not only NOT the current new seasonal task, but also that endeavours are a thing of the past.
Wrong german version:
I only found out what I actually had to do to earn my 1.000 tome tokens because another german player, who happens to use the english client, informed me about the error.
Many others might not get that lucky and miss out.
Major edit: I made a similar post on the german forum and one of the moderators was so kind to explain what exactly happened here. So for anybody who's interested, here we go. I'll try to translate things:
The texts in ESO, for books and quests and even tome tasks, are stored in so called 'Strings'.
The game assigns IDs to each line of text we see displayed in our language ingame. To save some space, older strings that are no longer in use, will be simply overwritten with new ones.
This specific tome task holds the ID 'timed_320'. Up until february the task itself was indeed still 'Finish <<01*endeavours^f in a group'. The '01' is the variable that makes for the actual count of '1000'. The '^f' signales the grammar tool, that the word is simply female (For the german example) and therefore assignes the fitting pronoun. (Which might explain why it hit the french and russian, too. Because the french handle things similar to us germans and for some reason russia has both 'soft' and 'hard' pronouns. Why guys...)
Sadly, the english string got changed to the task we got today before the other localizations could receive the translated strings and so the patch hit the live servers with what we have now.
This is why the english client shows the correct tome task while the german, french, russian and possibly other players are left with the 'old' and therefore incorrect variant.
End of story: The translation is still handled by actual humans. Fantastic. But the patch got pushed out before they could quickly translate the last minute change made to the tome task.

My main just started Elsweyr, so I might start with that. But I'm curious about the base game zones. I can't tell you how many times I've played through Glenumbra and I'm really curious to play some of the quest bosses throughout the storyline.
I also have a self-imposed challenge character - strict no magic use, can't use anything that even looks like magic, etc. - I'm curious to compare combat between the new difficulty level with no restrictions and gearing toward overland, and the combat difficulty of my challenge build.
Also, looking forward to possibly seeing creators come out with vestige difficulty builds and strategies.
How would you address the Challenge Difficulty issue?
The problem is clear: the moment a player on the highest difficulty encounters a player on the lowest difficulty, it can create an EXTREMELY frustrating situation. After all, you’ve been pushing yourself hard against an enemy, spending a good amount of time whittling down its health, and you’ve finally reached that critical 20% phase… And then a player on the base difficulty lands a single hit and finishes off the entire encounter.
The goal of this thread is to explore possible solutions to this issue.
I understand that, due to server limitations, ESO cannot create multiple instances of delves, overland zones, or public dungeons based on difficulty, as that would be too demanding. I also recognize that implementing something like this before the launch of Challenge Difficulty in June is highly unlikely. With that in mind, the focus here is on ideas that could improve the system in future updates.
Here are a couple of solutions I’ve been considering:
1) Overland remains shared, while instanced content adapts through phasing
Overland content would remain unchanged, preserving the core MMORPG experience. However, delves and public dungeons could use a phasing system similar to what we see in Bleakrock Isle, where players occupy different versions of the same space depending on their progression, with noticeable environmental and NPC changes.
Instead of story progression, these phases would represent difficulty levels. In Bleakrock, players transition between phases seamlessly, without loading screens. A similar approach could potentially be applied to instanced content elsewhere in the game. If necessary, this separation could be limited to the Vestige difficulty tier, where the impact of high-damage players is most disruptive.
2) Combat-based difficulty assignment per enemy
When a player engages an enemy, that enemy adopts the attacker’s difficulty settings for all subsequent participants in that encounter.
In practice, if a Vestige player initiates combat, the enemy becomes “flagged” under Vestige difficulty. Any other player who joins the fight would then be subject to the same difficulty modifiers for that specific enemy. While this wouldn’t prevent high-damage players from clearing entire areas quickly, it would ensure that enemies already engaged by a higher-difficulty player are not trivialized.
This approach would likely require significant development effort. It essentially creates a “first engagement claim” system, where the initial attacker determines the difficulty context of the fight. Mechanically, this could be implemented in a way similar to how trial target buffs are applied.
These are the ideas I’ve come up with so far. Have you considered any other approaches?
