there is absolutely no way to get rid of it other than logging off completely, changing zones, or using all the stacks.
It virtually doesn't change anything at all. You have it slotted for a reason. Any combat you engage in at any time will re-activate the glow, and there is absolutely no way to get rid of it other than logging off completely, changing zones, or using all the stacks.
This isn't what people have been asking for. I don't understand why people seem happy with a change that virtually doesn't impact anything on its own, especially after having harassed the staff about it for two years straight, supporting the fact that they released a "hotfix" just to stop people from continuing to request it.
If anything, it's worse than nothing because instead of having cosmetic continuity (very important if you are serious about coherence), you now end up with systematic visual changes left and right on your character. At least with the perma-glow, you could somewhat work with a visual that matches it (many armor/weapon skins work well with red). Besides, on a NB, it was pretty okay to have it. Now with subclass, Grom Focus is moving to other classes as well.
Adding that the horrible Banner zone effect just ends up being a VFX puddle in the end anyway, so be it.

I wouldn't call it nothing. When I'm zipping from combat to combat I don't mind - I would've glowed almost permanently before anyway - but if I'm not I don't have to suffer it this way.
That said, having the glow and stacks fall off with time would be preferable. It's weird it doesn't do this anyway - Bound Armaments falls off. Crux falls off.
Everything comparable falls off out of combat eventually. Why not Grim Focus?
Anyone who can make an addon that just.. removes it and puts it back on the bar to remove the glow automatically out of combat or with a key press?
I made a thread requesting an addon like it if anyone has any ideas to add to it: https://www.esoui.com/forums/showthread.php?p=51855#post51855

The requested feature was added to this addon: https://www.esoui.com/downloads/info4141-ImpifiedUI.html
The issue for me wasn't even it being overpowered, Grim Focus is one of the strongest burst damage skills in the game, there was no reason for it to also give that amount of passive damage when the Assassination passives are already so good, it was present on every subclassed setup just for free power.Elvenheart wrote: »I have to say this is very funny, for months, may be over a year? A lot of us have been begging for the red glow to go away. They fixed that in a way that at least made it better than before, and I was so happy. And then, they go and change the skill itself and take away its best feature. That feature make it overpowered? Probably, a lot seem to think so. But if I had known that was coming, I would not have worried about the red glow so much! 😂
Yes, it is, since the glow is now attached to the stacks themselves and not the skill being slotted, that fixed the issue of not being able to see them on others, before the change you could still see the glow on other players, but only if they slotted it while close to you.katanagirl1 wrote: »I can see other players grim focus glow now as of the last update. Just wanted to ask about this. Addon definitely works to eliminate the glow, but it seems that it does so by eliminating the stacks - so shortly after combat is over, the stacks drop to zero and all benefit is gone. Of course, after U47 and the proposed changes, it may not be as big of a deal for those who will just back bar for Major buff. Nice addon regardless. Thanks
Welcome to the club, we've been giving suggestions like that for a looong time, my personal solution as I've commented before is just having a setup on Wizard's Wardrobe without the skill, so I can quickly reslot it whenever I want to get rid of the glow.SnakeDodger wrote: »Adding to the list of permaglow haters. I'm experiencing this for the first time too and it just sucks. But sadly it's not the first permaglow/effect ive experienced, and everytime it happens i just feel forced to find an alternative that doesn't have it. It really ruins so much- roleplay, outfits, not to mention it's distracting as hell.
Maybe a solution could be to release a 'skill style' that was just a blank effect, turning it off for people who dislike it, and leaving it still available for people that do. Either way, please do something about this, this game has a deep 'too much' issue with fx already.
Okay - I've read more of the thread and i have to say, this isn't a good solution, it's shocking that it was even worse, but the glow is still 'permanent', no, the days of permanent glow are not over. It reapplies itself every time you engage in combat, and if you're playing anything other than housing, that's 90% of the time. It is still there, having to go to the skill tab, take the skill out, and put it back in every single time you exit combat is stupid as hell. There has to be a better way than this, this solution doesn't actually solve anything.

Yeah. It affects a lot of things that it really shouldn't.
Ideally it would only be active when ready to fire while in combat or something. I'm not sure.
I've not liked a lot of the visual changes to the game over the years, like showing a huge shield when I'm blocking. Let other people see it sure, but I'm very well aware of when I'm holding right click myself, and even if I wasn't my character does this little block animation thing to show it's happening. Maybe make that an accessibility setting.
And the glowing feet after dodge rolling, what is up with that?

The glowing feet is the dodge roll fatigue, so you can know your next dodge roll will have an increased cost, Streak also does something similar.
Both the dodge and blocking effects do have a purpose, which couldn't be said about Grim Focus previously, I do completely agree it would be much better to have the glow up only when it's ready to fire, that would be great as a visual for anyone playing as or fighting a nightblade, since you'd have a visual response for when to expect a bow proc.
But in my opinion the major problem with the current iteration isn't just that it glows with any stacks present, is that the glow lasts forever, remember when Crux didn't have a duration and they quickly addressed it? It's funny how this doesn't receive the same treatment, but now that they already nerfed Focus, I wouldn't be asking for more without compensation.
