ToT: Remove NPC patron selection

Why let the NPC choose patrons anyway? I’m sick of dealing with the same annoying combinations. It’s not like I leave them a choice. Currently, I just have to restart games over and over again, until it’s something I bother to play with.
So, why all this hassle, if I can already influence the outcome?

Tales of Tribute NPCs have a very obvious priority list. It generally goes like this:

    1. Trigger Treasury patron if they have a Gold card played
    2. Purchase anything they can from the shop, including contract cards useless to them
    3. If possible, flip any patron

That's about it, really. They will forego "obvious" choices in the shop selection in the early game due to their Treasury priority, which will net you a massive gain in the mid-to-late game.

Try playing PvP ToT; you'll learn what cards really get the snowball rolling.

I still haven't done any quest lines to unlock additional fancy card decks, I only have Mora and Red Eagle as fancy options. It's the reason I love when NPCs and players select their patrons from other DLC decks - so I can play with new cards :)

I don't think this is what the OP is saying. They know how PvP tribute works. They're saying that the PVP opponents in Tales of Tribute should not choose their own decks at deck selection stage.

That said I agree with @Fischblut that the potential downside would be not giving players the chance to play with decks they don't have.

One option would be to just have a button to tell the NPC to choose again, rather than having to concede the match.

I understand that my response isn't what they're actively looking for, but the way I see it, if you're complaining about "annoying combinations" when battling NPCs, you have bigger problems than "let me pick their patrons too", problems like "I always lose against this combo".

If you truly wish to test combos, go battle a friend.

Yes, there are annoying combinations, like Red Eagle + Crow, or Celarus + Druid, or Rajhin + Almalexia, or all of Alessia. Until deck banning exists, the best way to learn is to actively practice using those decks.

    This is how I feel.

When I first started, I didn't know when I would be gaining access to the other patrons, so it was a treat when the NPCs would choose a non-starter deck. It allowed me to see new cards, figure out strategies with those cards, figure out which decks I actively wanted to pursue because I really liked them and so on.

Even now, though I have access to most of the decks (still one or two I don't have access to), when new decks are added, it allows me to see how those decks play out.

It's possible. But experienced players may just find various decks *boring*, and while playing PvE you just concede so you don't have to deal with them and keep going until you have an actually worth playing deck combination. That's certainly what I do in PvE.

I do this for new decks. I haven't finished Gold Road so don't have the Alessia deck myself. But I've played around it with a bit on NPCs before jumping into PvP matches where I would face it just to get a basic sense of the cards.
