Defeating Arc 3 Tho’at

I think I am not understanding all the damage or attack types in the next stage of the Tho’at fight. My survivability is generally good — upped my health and defenses and try to keep my health near full in case of a hard hit, but something eventually does.

I’m assuming the blots are always priority number #1, but once the manticore thing appears, that should be #2, right? I don’t think the atronach does much damage. But there seems to be a lot more aoe and I don’t know where it comes from and what I should block as versus dodge, etc. A localized circle I get out of, that seems simple enough. There seems to be some sky shards hitting me and I’m not sure how to avoid this. I’m looking for some queue of when to dodge.

Any help is much appreciated! I’m much improved, but getting through the arc 3 mobs is still a slog for me, only to die.

Always the order the appear apart from the blobs. Kill the lady then the atro then the manticore. Roll dodge the big manticore sky attack as they are hard to run out of

mantikora has the deadly attack glass ceiling, which if your non-tank can easily 1 shot you

if you are a tank, you can choose to block or roll dodge it (i usually roll dodge it because the dmg of this attack keeps increasing as you get to later arcs and can do like up to 35k dmg unblocked)

you have to be mobile in the tho'at fights, you will never be able to "stand your ground" per se, because of all of the ramping dmg mechanics (eye beams, ice patches, tentacles (which dont have ramping dmg but they will spawn on you when the atro is up))

generally speaking, you can usually kill the blobs with aoes unless they are in the middle of nowhere, then you should be paying attention to their channeling and/or apply some dots to them

Yeah, the blobs are always priority #1 in my book. They seem to do alot of damage if left unchecked and it's hard to see where that damage is even coming from since they have infinite range. They will overwhelm you too since they just keep spawning. I run Bow, so Venom Arrow interrupt helps stop them and apply a DoT. A single HA from Bow usually finishes them off too.

All in all, range definitely has an advantage in these fights. The beam AOEs are high damage, there are loads of snaring ice AOEs, blobs spawn randomly but must be dealt with, the manticore is always trying to pen you in with the ice walls. Being range helps keep you mobile and keeps you from getting tunnel vision. Stampede has gotten me in real trouble with all of the high AOE damage, but having lots of Stam for dodge rolls and sprinting really helps imo.

Just take it slow (so to speak) and steady. The 4th Arc is easier IMO cause the dragon can be kited around the outside edge. But a dedicated Tank would be helpful if you don't have one.

the ice patches dont actually snare, but they do ramping dmg if you stay in them too long, the eye beams also have ramping dmg

I thought moving through them reduced your speed? Maybe I'm misremembering since I try not to stand in them and use Extended Ritual purge quite often.

as far as im aware nothing in the tho'at fight applies a snare lol

there are no dots in tho'at fight except from the dragon (it can apply a burn if it uses a range attack and a bleed on melee attack, neither of which can be purged)

Thank you all! I followed the attack priority outlined and got tankier so as not to be one-shot by the area glass shards and defeated not only Tho’at 3 but Tho’at 4 tonight!
