Are veteran ranks still gonna be removed?

Good grief, I just reached lvl 40 this is sad to hear. Was looking forward to joining the ranks of vets soon.
I have no hatred for the races of Man, but they are young. Like all
children, they are driven by emotion. They lack the wisdom that comes
with age. I would sooner place an Altmer infant on the Ruby Throne
than surrender Tamriel to their capricious whims.

still there is no need to remove them. it's an MMO, and reroll a char is taking less than others MMO, less than 2 days for lvl1 to vr16. it's too easy, just stop putting in new vrlevels, but don't remove them: )

How about, if you have at least one vet 1 rank per faction, future alts have the chance to start a new alt at vet rank 1? Just food for thought.

While I'd like to see level increases with the CP points and caps to that and moving that up I agree with you don't remove them or even rename them keep it at V16 and let the progression from CP take over from there. Removing them them seems silly and making it 65 or 70 or whatever doesn't remove them just a Halloween mask for them.

Yes, the plan is still to remove Veteran Ranks. We'll talk more about the details of this as we get closer to implementation.

@ZOS_GinaBruno Implementation of what? Is it possible to have an estimate of when because I've been waiting for this to happen since you guys released them...

    Thanks

The removal of Veteran Ranks requires a lot more work than just, well, removing them. There's impact to itemization, quests, and dungeons to name a few. Again, we'll talk more about all this later next year.

Does that mean we are looking at second half of 2016 for this?

Thanks for the updates, I know a few friends won't come back until they are removed, and would be nice to have a narrower timeframe to tell them.

Agreed. Most of us don't need (or expect you to have) a specific date, but a targeted quarter for this change would be helpful to know.

I do not think this is a good idea but I will reserve judgement.
I think they may cause more problems than they resolve as Gina has said, there is a tonne of stuff that will be impacted by this and the chances are something will be forgotten or not tweaked correctly.

It raises sooo many questions for me.
How will our gear work in this brave new world?
Will all the grinding be made obsolete in order to provide this level playing field?
Will Skill points be the measure of "level"?
Will Champion Points be the new ceiling as Eric has already described in a recent ESO Live?
Will I ever be able to watch an ESO Live that Eric features in without needing to watch American Pie directly afterwards to stem my Stifler cravings?
Will Silver and Gold become even more of a grindy chorefest?
Is the new battle leveling system the answer to all our woes?
Will I ever stop seeing Sean William Scott while watching Eric?

If your friends wouldve kept playing they wouldve been v16 by now. There had to be more to it than just the veteran ranks to make them quit.

So.. wait. If VR is being removed does that mean that VR gear of various levels are all going to be set to level 50? Meaning if I want those master's weapons I might as well do normal DSA since the items will end up being level 50 anyway?

If it so much work why dont you lower the exp required for a VR rank to 50k. People will be able to grind from VR1 to VR16 for 1 hour and everybody will be happy. Also you have to remove the restrictions from silver and gold quests and make every zone explorable when you want.

I don't think the real problem was ever the Vet levels themselves, it was vet level content.

I have all eight character slots filled. Going through Cadwell's silver and gold (again) just doesn't excite me. I'm playing through level five quests at level 51 and saying, "Yay, this looks fresh and new."

Better implementation would have been to keep the three factions pure (this is confusing...AD is the enemy now?) and separated while developing more Craglorn-like content for post 50 exploration.

Just redrunning Cadwell silver as a CP instead of a VR is not going to make anyone happy.

so whats the point in removing them? will we all just be lvl 50 now? or will we get levels beyond that? like vr16 being lvl 65? please don't go the wow route of just keep upping the lvl cap and making previous gear useless. instead go the final fantasy XI route. 4 expansions long the lvl cap remained 75 which meant an enormous amount of awesome content which was all relevant, adding new without making old obsolete, when they finnally did raise the lvl cap they ruined the game

It's actually both that is why ultimately the decision to remove them is best because the decision to add them to PvE during closed beta was extremely poor.

It was basically added to give ppl some extra content but just done way wrong.
It should've stayed as a PvP thing

Maybe better, "unintended consequences". Devs always act surprised when the players find ways to use their stuff that they (the devs) didn't foresee.

Well I guess dropping Vet ranks and changing it to standard levels is more straight forward and less confusing going forward means they can increase the level cap without confusion.

When you think of the changes to crafting, gear, scaling, the food you can eat, the potions you can take, the enchantments you can make and put on gear. Not to mention the materials we now need to grind because of the difference between VR15 and VR16.

VR runs through all aspects of the game, removing it will affect all aspects of the game.

It actually DOES make sense to remove Veteran Ranks because they make no sense to begin with. If game content stopped at level 50 and we continued to gain Vet ranks it might make sense, but since all of the enemies, gear, etc. continue to veteran levels as well, what is the real difference between calling your character VR16 and calling it level 65? The amount of EXP needed to gain a Vet rank has already been significantly reduced in the update that gave us Imperial City. This isn't as big a change as ppl are making it sound like, it's more cosmetic than anything else. It also won't require as much change as many think--stat changes aren't necessary, just change the text that says "VR5" to "L54" and proceed as before. The only real question is how the Champion system will be affected.

And for those that have not read the Orsinium patch notes yet, they have already announced that Champion Points will be capped at 501 following that update. You will not lose CP over 501 but will only be able to spend 501. That cap will be raised incrementally as time goes on. This applies to both PvP and PvE, and it's coming VERY soon.

These changes are made with an eye to the future of the game. Right now on console there are some PC transfers with high amounts of CP and they have a tremendous advantage over new players. ZOS will need to continue to attract new players to the game as time goes on, and a player who buys the game some time next year will be even farther behind under the current system. It doesn't help the game if new players try it for a week, get owned by guys with far more advanced characters in PvP or can't join any PvE content because they're too weak, and then quit and go play something else. There will always be players that get bored with the game or accomplish everything they can and then move on. If the game cannot attract new players to replace them, it will not last long. All MMOs have an ultimate cap that cannot be passed to ensure fairness at endgame, this is just the implementation of that approach here.

What's going to replace the veteran ranks then? More regular levels? More Champion Points?

Don't see how this is going to fare when the veteran rank system is already so immersive and incorporated in the game itself. The again, I'm not a game developer nor designer and I am utterly convinced that the team over at ZOS is far more talented than me when it comes to developing video games.

But please, do let us know when you have some news, hate to wait.

No reason to feel bad for them since they brought it on themselves. They were working with VR so long until they made them actually ok, so ppl don't complain about VR anymore. They just didn't notice it.
