There are all sorts of people in all walks of life. Not every person in the real world will be the "ideal person". Not everyone has the same personality and outlook on life.
Tanlorin (and other Companion characters) are designed to be as diverse from one another as possible. Some Companions have already "grown a backbone". Some of them can be relatable to some player out there.
It's okay that we have characters that we hate. I personally can't stand Ember, yet others love her. I imagine some people out there adore Tanlorin, while others hate them. It's okay because we have variety from the Companions system, and each character can be relatable to someone in the real world on some walk of life.

There's no need to lecture me about the obvious just because I don't like Tanlorin based on the dialogue you posted. The fact that the dialogue made me cringe doesn't mean I don't know that there are all sorts of people in life, etc. You need to practice what you preach and not assume that everyone who disagrees with you (i.e. has a different outlook from you) needs a lecture on what's obvious to everyone over the age of 12.

And Tanlorin? Geez, I thought that Bastian was annoying but here we have completely new level. Seriously, why this character behave and talks like constantly overhyped, annoying kid? This is not being joyfull and happy person, this is just infantile. We have already Ember with this vibe, but she was ok-ish with it - Tanlorin is just worse version of this.

I also didn't like how they kept flirting with my character. As an asexual IRL, this made me deeply uncomfortable, but I am guessing that doesn't matter to most people.

I'm sure lots of us (asexual or not) feel uncomfortable or irritated when a game character keeps flirting with our character. Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be a way to tell NPCs and companions to stop, which is kind of funny for a game that tries to be politically correct.

Yeah. I QUITE agree. Goddess spare me from Jakarn, or any of the more flirtatious NPCs (including the old lady whose name I now don't remember). Another good reason for me not using companions....

So because of family, this person has forever rejected books, including fiction, poetry, and practical books that could make their life better? Sounds like an idiot to me. And grow a backbone, dear. You're an adult now.
(Hopefully not all their dialogue is that cringeworthy.)
for me it was the flirting. I abandoned the quest once my character randomly got called 'attractive' and there was no option to tell them to knock it off. Felt like I was being creeped on by some horny internet person and my fight or flight instincts started kicking in.
I believe this beggar can always be found under the bridge in Devon's Watch, so you could check that location out.The most difficult thing with Zerith-Var is getting the RNG beggar donation event to happen.
There are several necromaner skills that are not an criminal act, and really, having a necromancer companion that would give you a bounty or make guards angry would be an awful decision.Funny how Zerith-Var can just use necromancy skills and the guards don't care.
