Crown Store Gifting Update – October 2023

Coming back to report the second account has been re-authorized for gift-giving, according to email. I appreciate that it happened before the end of the current round of Crown Store sales.

My points stand, however. As a business trying both to profit and to protect their community, I understand and agree with the need to take action against exploitive thieves. The action taken, however, appears - from this side of the equation - to have been knee-jerk rather than proactive.

Okay, so I bought ESO Plus on my alternate account, and now I can't gift the crowns to my main account because the account is from April 2023. Is this correct?

You have to request access to the Crown Store gifting on the alternate account.

Fair warning... If the alternate account is lacking in the last criteria, which is probably normal for alternate accounts, it may get rejected.

If it is rejected, it might work to make the case for the alternate account based on the main account, but expect to have to lay it out in detail to help them see it clearly. Even with that, it might not work. We don't really know what the criteria they are looking for consists of, and we have been asked to not speculate.

On my second attempt, I got my second account authorized, so I know it is possible.

I have an alt account as well, and i asked 3 times and had quite a discussen but they didn't do it though it was an account from 2017. I cried and waved 20k crowns goodbye and canceled that subscribtion :(

So, there is my main account, started in Beta in November 2013, 20 full cp 2801+ characters, gm of small but active trading guild, over 15,800hours playing, ~40k achievement points. And probably ~$5k spent on this game through all chapters and expansions, 7+ years of eso+ and an ungodly number of crown purchases.

And then there is the alt account ... that apparently I do not show consistent game play activity and/or be active in an in-game ESO community prior to submitting your application to have this privilege on my alt account.

Because, and get this....apparently I may be a "BAD ACTOR". and so should not be given the "privilege" of spending the imaginary game money I purchased with very real actual money on the account I want to play on instead of the account I took an obviously ill-considered chance on.

Because, you know, it's impossible to review my purchases and playing habits on these accounts - it's so arcane and unfathomable how two accounts using the RL same address and credit card, and emails that are only different by a single character, could -possibly- belong to the same person.
This is all really insulting, to be honest.

    @ZOS_Kevin

So now, after >16,256 hours on main account @karthrag_inak, still no gifting enabled on alt account, @karthrag_inak2. The gif below lists out the ESO purchases made on main account in steam store, since 2017. Comes to about $10k. Not complaining. - works out to less than a dollar an hour, which is a bargain.

But to not allow my alt account (which I've spent a couple hundred dollars on), because it may be some kind of scam account, is certainly off-putting.

Hi All, I know this thread is a couple months old now, but I very much need to respond to this as a newer player. The way this policy is intentionally not communicated is extremely newbie unfriendly!

I bought this game during the Steam Winter Sale about a month back. I want to say upfront that overall, I've been having an excellent time with it, enough so to purchase a Plus Membership, Necrom, and a few batches of Crowns! I do not regret these purchases. I pulled a friend in as well, and they made use of the ESO+ Trial which the January Event currently offers. They really like it, but currently don't feel comfortable attaching their bank to an auto-renew system due to unstable income, so I offered to gift them a membership. I discovered that this was not possible, so my next step was to gift them the Crowns in order to purchase the standalone DLCs in the meantime. I discovered that this was also not possible, which is fine! So, then I decided to use the in-game Crown Store gifting function - it's something I've noticed each time I look, so hey, perfect time to use it! I load up the Crowns and head in, I click "gift" ... "you are locked from gifting items in the Crown Store." Huh?

Okay, so let's break that down a little and what about it is ineffective imo, especially as a new player. This policy is hidden from players until their account has the required Crowns to hit the gift button and find themselves barred. The problem in this situation is not the policy itself, it is the lack of communication around the policy.

ESO has had a recent sale, which boosts new player numbers, of course. A month later, they have an event and free trial of Plus - those new players from the Winter Sale have been having fun for the past few weeks and are now going to convince a friend to join, and those friends may be interested in continuing to buy content. Maybe they need some additional convincing, which is where your older new player swoops in and goes "I'll happily purchase this as a gift for you! Come play with me!" This is an excellent outcome. However, these hidden policies will start to creep in and wall off avenues for the new players, such as was my experience. Being surprised by them is a surefire way to decrease player interest very quickly. While the policy itself is fine and I appreciate that gifting is even an option, it feels very bad as a new player to get unexpectedly barred instead of knowing the gifting policy in advance. "Hey, I can't gift this to you yet, so I'll do so after my account is naturally unlocked or I'll just Venmo/Cashapp/etc. the money so you can get Crowns yourself."

I reiterate that I cannot find this policy in a natural way until I have already loaded the Crowns and clicked the gift button, as it will give a different message if one does not have enough Crowns. As it stands, this is just extremely off-putting. I have two constructive suggestions:

    1) The gift button instead should be noticeably greyed out from the start, with a pop-up that says "you must be (account age) to utilize the gifting function" when you hover over or attempt to select it. This change in UI opacity now immediately visually communicates the expectation that I am UNABLE to gift from the get-go. The at-a-glance experience goes from "I keep seeing a gift button whenever I buy stuff, I must be able to use that" to "I keep seeing a greyed out gift button whenever I buy stuff, I must not be able to use that".

    2) The gift button should not be visible or accessible at all until account age has been met.

I very much enjoy this game. I would like to continue financially supporting it. I know MMO costs and labor are astronomically high in terms of game dev, and the game is engaging enough for me to continue investing and bringing others in. I want this game and its team to continue succeeding. However, right now it feels like I am Manray trying to give Patrick his wallet, and that's a depressive turn-off for me. I have worked in something adjacent to game design before, and I know how fickle we gamers are as customers, trust me! But please...just tell me upfront how to give you the wallet, Patrick.

On one of my accounts I have been patiently waiting for gifting to be enabled through the natural earned process.
Doing all modes of the game, subscribing to ESO+ doing PvP etc.
I Do not believe their system works at all at this point without begging customer service.
The only thing I have not done is join that account to the forums.
This account was made just before this change was made and has reached CP600.
I do have two other older accounts which were never denied gifting access.

I'm curious here. Why is there no update to this process? No clear definitions. Just ask support and they may grant you access? My wife got denied twice. She's logged in consistently for the past few years, nearly daily for the past few years, Just joined back in myself from a haitus and now she can't use her crowns to gift anything to me (she's remained pretty much subbed to ESO+ for the past few years while I only sub to do the new content). This stuff makes zero sense. Especially if all we're looking for is to buy something for someone on the same IP address.

When will this be resolved? Or will this be taken away and I can stop ESO+ for the both of us and just move onto another game? I don't mean to be divisive like that but this is seriously a kick in the balls to someone who didn't exactly get notified in game this was going away - all while time limited stuff passes on by. We had a certain expectation of how things worked. ESO+ was sold with Crown Crates as being an included feature. What's the point if you can't use them how you want? Who disrespects customers this way?

Hi @Sturmir. We have been pretty clear that we will not be providing any additional criteria regarding gifting qualifications as bad actors have tried to use those qualifications in order to try and process fraudulent actions. While we understand this is frustrating, we are not trying to disrespect customers, but rather reduce the harm that is being done by bad actors.

That being said, if you have the ticket numbers for when your wife attempted access, we can take a look follow up if there are any additional details that we can share. If you don't have a ticket number, the quote below should help you get the process started.
Gifting eligibility is determined by an evolving list of factors including but not limited to the account being at least 180 days past its first login and previous engagement with in-game features. You may check if you have access to gifting in-game via the Crown Store as well as via your billing history page in the ESO account center. If you have access to Crown Store gifting, you will see “Allow Crown Store Gifting” in your billing history. If you try to send a gift via the in-game Crown Store and do not have access, you will see a “Gifting Locked” pop-up message. Please note that we are exploring better ways to display this information in-game in the future, such as updating the Gifting Tutorial.

If you do not have access to Crown Store gifting after it is re-enabled on October 11, 2023, and wish for a review of your account, please visit https://help.elderscrollsonline.com and submit a Customer Support ticket. Please choose the Billing / Purchase / Code category then Platform > I have a question about a sale / offer > I want to send gift items from this account.

I do appreciate you looking into this. For people who don't really check the forums, this is a bit concerning that's all. The way we found out about the gifting thing is when she literally tried sending a gift and we noticed the option grayed out. It's just not something we interacted with much. You can understand my frustration. Bad actors ruin stuff for a lot of people.

It does not make any sense, and never has.

Meanwhile, I simply suggest an attempt that focuses on in-game contribution and participation. Not how much money has been spent on the game here, or there, but what has been accomplished in the game to establish that the player is a grounded member of the community that would not abuse gifting privileges.

I just gave up as I have done all the same things on my denied account as the 2 accounts where gifting was enabled.
Except joining the forum, which I have no need for another forum account.
Meanwhile bots are running rampant on starter islands and Zone chat is spammed by gold sellers on PS NA.
But the heck with somebody who just wants to gift furniture items to his wife. :/

Endeavor points, how many quests they've completed.

Or hell, controversial opinion/option but... Ask for my ID or something, have some person look at it and have it get deleted. I'm sure people would throw a fit over that requirement, but at this point they have my credit card details, and my first and last name.

I'm not sure what sort of requirements they're asking for but I don't know how someone could be more active than my wife in the game. We've done crown purchases and stuff. She has expansions. She's subbed up. I was planning on buying her gold road next month after I got paid so she'd be caught up to me. (I bought it to nab high isles, necrom and gold road. I got her high isle previously so I was holding off picking up the collector's pack for her.) It just seems really weird and arbitrary, and that's why I believe it's disrespectful.

Though I do agree. Bad actors need to be countered somehow.

On Monday I tried to buy Scions of Ithelia for gold.

First person, attempted to gift it before I even got them the gold but, they were not able to gift.

Second person, I exchanged the gold but, they found they couldn't so they gave me the gold back.

    Third person ripped me off.

I've bought probably over a dozen DLC on zone chat for gold in the past so getting ripped off was bound to happen at some point but, I think the current gifting implementation might be raising the chance of it happening somewhat.

Most of the people I've bought crowns from in the past appeared to not be terribly familiar with selling crowns and were likely selling some of the ones they got with ESO+. I could be mistaken but, I think the current iteration of gifting may eliminate many of these people from being able to gift crowns which raises the chance of getting hit with a scammer.

I'm not sure this impacts enough people that it's actually worth doing anything about (or that doing something about it might not make worse problems elsewhere. For example, you could highlight in the trade window if the person did or didn't have the ability to gift crowns but that could lead to people with the ability getting targeted by bad actors. You could have separate gifting tiers where more accounts could gift but had a cap to limit the amount they could gift in a given month but, that might enable bad actors do to a bit more) but, I figured I'd note it.

    Been playing since 2014.
I have 3 main accounts and a number of lesser ones (9) that were bought over the years. Only lesser in that they only have 1-3 characters on each. Created mostly to do crafting dailies for mats and writs for the main accounts.
My 3 main accounts are all Plus accounts, all the time, save for an odd month or two over the years when money was short for a few weeks.

That said, they are logged into almost every single day for the dailies.
Most of the characters on these accounts are 9-trait crafters - that's how much time goes into them.
They earn endeavor seals, and use them.
They participate in events, earn tickets, get stuff, buy houses..
They are part of a number of guilds (granted yes, they are my own - another reason for having them).
I sub ALL of them at least once a year for a month for the big events - which runs me over $240 for the month.
They have bought crown packs at times to purchase DLCs etc.
They were all PURCHASED (not created on 'free' weekends) accounts, and were created before October 2023.
They are all under the same name (mine), same address, etc.

And yet, only my main 3 with lots of characters on them have gifting enabled.
I have put in separate tickets for each of the other accounts, and they were all DENIED, citing such reasons as given here - they need to be active, etc.
If logging in every single day and doing writs, playing in events, doing quests, etc. isn't activity then I don't know what is.
I paid for their subs and any crowns they bought with my cash. I should be able to use them to gift items wherever I want. I'd often like to use them to say, purchase an event ticket for another of my accounts that is short, or gift something to one of my sons who also play - and are both subbed.
Sometimes when events have the "gift 5 tickets and get a free crate" thing I'd like to use them for that, amongst my own accounts. But nooooo... not allowed.
I'm not amassing great quantities of crowns anywhere, except on my main where I purchase a bunch usually during sales.

If I can't use the crowns they get for the months I sub these accounts the way I want, then I might as well never sub them. It's nice to get them craft bag, clean up inventories and surveys and yes, get a few crowns, but hey, I can live without it because as it stands now, they aren't my crowns I'm buying - they're ZoS's crowns that I'm giving them money for and they are telling me whether I can use them or not in the way I want.

Anyway, I have replied to those tickets and submitted my argument. We'll see what happens, but really... this is way, way over the top.

*** AND I HAVE NEVER... EVER.... BOUGHT OR SOLD CROWNS IN GAME TO OR FROM ANYONE - NOT FOR INGAME GOLD, NOT FOR REAL CASH OUTSIDE OF THE GAME, NOTHING. EVER. I BUY THEM FROM THE GAME STORE, NOWHERE ELSE. *** I mean, good heavens, none of these accounts have even had many crowns at any given time. If bought for a DLC then that DLC was purchased - from the crown store - right away.

    240324-003767
    240324-003776

And if these accounts are being punished simply because I have so many then that isn't fair either.
Take a look at the guilds they are all in (with each other... for guild banks) - thats what I use them for. They are my worker accounts. Earning my main ones mats and writs and goodies during events and I have fun trying new builds or skills on them from time to time, and running the old delves to get skyshards for them. Sheesh.

OK. My account currently has 2 characters I play consistently every day and belongs to in-game ESO communities (guilds?). Is there a secret specific ESO community I must participate in first?

Based on the stated criteria, I should have been approved, but wasn't.

I'm late to the party, but why not making an implementation like being able to trade the crowns, or the item in a transfer like everything else?

Say trade, they put crowns in, you put gold in.

    No one could scam then.

However I wonder if it's limitation of the game engine that it haven't been done yet.

I wish the support to look more carefully at my appeal. Was said that my account must have no ToS infringement, and I got none. If so, I want it to be listed down, what I've done, because I never received any warning or mail due to in game related. And every social mute I got was due to high latency, as even support stated it. This really make me worried about the future of the game. I was able to gift before, bought a few crown packs. And now I have a feature that I had before locked. Makes me lose most of my will. I'm being honest.

I have been trying to get crown gifting enabled on my account since the end of march, so almost 2 weeks now.

All i want the crown gifting for is to give items from crown store to other accounts in the same household. All the accounts are using the same internet provider, but IP address might not be quite the same as some are using WIFI router to connect and some using direct LAN, bypassing the WIFI router.

This account meets all the requirements mentioned by customet support. I play 20-30 hours every week, have been playing since july 2023 and i am part of in-game ESO community. I have also purchased crown packs and i have eso+ subscription.

Yet i am denied on my request.

    @Saul_Tigh I feel your pain

    @ZOS_Kevin

I have been wanting to come back to ESO for some time now but the new gifting process has completely discouraged me. The way my schedule is now essentially playing two ESOs, maintaining two ESO plus subs, joining a guild and being active on both accounts in the guilds is really hard. I have never been a gold seller, the majority of gifting was between these two accounts and occasionally to friends with the ElizabethInTamriel account (formerly ElizabethInAustin). I can't recall ElizabethInESO ever gifting to anyone besides ElizabethInTamriel. I would really like to return and enjoy the game but this whole crown thing has discouraged me.

If you look at ElizabethInTamriel 's account, for 10 years, I have been a member of ESO plus fairly consistently, except for a few months at a time. I am still an ESOplus account member now on my main and haven't played probably since last summer? I keep the membership to support the game because I think its the best MMO on the market today. Why can't I send gifts to myself? I also have a Fallout 76 plus membership but that's beside the point, lol.

I fill out tickets and was told to appeal. The appeal does nothing. Its very discouraging.

Because of the Anniversary Event, I need to gift some Event Tickets to my main account from my alternate accounts where I have paid ESO+ subscription. Sadly, I haven't renewed ESO+ subscription on all my alternate accounts because of this gifting restriction. Even my main account which I have since beta can't gift. For each ticket, I have given all details to prove my main and alternate accounts are legit and used gifting only for my own benefit into getting the cosmetic items sold by the Impresario during the in-game events.

Want ticket numbers? here you go.

    240324-003752
    240324-003767
    240324-003776

And if these accounts are being punished simply because I have so many then that isn't fair either.
Take a look at the guilds they are all in (with each other... for guild banks) - thats what I use them for. They are my worker accounts. Earning my main ones mats and writs and goodies during events and I have fun trying new builds or skills on them from time to time, and running the old delves to get skyshards for them. Sheesh.

I have not received a single reply to any of the appeals sent in.
    Now over 2 weeks :(
Still all just say "waiting on agent".
I am guessing they just aren't bothering with these, from the looks of how many have not received any replies at all.

My daughter was rejected after a couple of weeks. Neither of us have any idea why. She is a sporadic member (on a few months off a few months) but she has ESO+. I have gifting and have given her gifts, but she can't reciprocate. She was not happy about that. She wanted to gift me a warden so were could play with those together, but I guess that won't happen.

@ZOS_Kevin just in case, I am putting here the tickets I have generated:

    240414-002260 (Main account)
    240414-002247 (Alternate account #01)
    240414-002207 (Alternate account #02)
    240414-002188 (Alternate account #03)
    240414-002176 (Alternate account #04)
    240414-002156 (Alternate account #05)
    240414-002144 (Alternate account #06)
    240414-002112 (Alternate account #07)
    240414-002084 (Alternate account #08)
    240414-002058 (Alternate account #09)
    240414-001959 (Alternate account #10)

I have been denied gifting on all my accounts including my main one. And the response it's an automated one on all the emails I have received on each account. They don't even say what need each account to do in order to be eligible. The same requirements the OP says and each account have met those requirements.

EDIT: I have answered to each of the automated emails. Not sure if they even bothered to review the documentation and explanations given on each ticket.

I'm still trying to get permission to use my own crowns and have been doing so since March 2nd. Ticket number 240302-008059. The way this is being handled is truly unacceptable.

I still have friends unable to use gifting, who just want to gift themselves crowns from one of their alt accounts. Obviously we are not players suffering from split personalities, if one account qualified, the alt accounts are not being run by some shady character out to steal from ZOS. Whether they are family accounts or alt accounts for the same player, if they are from the same IP or payed for by the same person who already has gifting enabled on their main account, then ALL accounts they have or have payed for should have gifting enabled, if they meet the requirements. If the account is logged in every day for years, used every day even if only for writs, they should be able to gift. They should not have to keep asking and being turned down all the time, just because they want to use their own crowns to gift themselves or one of their family members some goodies!

One friend only asked about his accounts being able to gift, would not ask for his wifes, in case it further complicated things, months later he is still being turned down. I think a more rational approach to protect those with multiple accounts or multiple family members playing ESO from being put through this constant rejection should be devised.

Support just denied me today my crown gifting request. Complete copy paste response about needing to consistently play in game, community, etc.

Obviously didn’t look at my account or billing history for even few seconds. My main account has billing history for almost 10 years, been ESO plus sub for all but couple breaks in between, and most recently after returning to ESO - have 5 months of unbroken eso+ sub and 40+ hrs/week in game.

Total played hours over 12k on steam, verified years of billing history, and currently unbroken 5 month streak of daily play. What counts as consistent in game play if this doesn’t? I’ve appealed it, but given they didn’t even look at my account history last time, seems like canned copy paste response and auto deny gifting request is expectation.

P.s. the real kicker is that account I want to gift crowns to is my own second account - which is also an ESO plus subscriber and purchased most recent Necrom collection. Perhaps Zos standards are bit unreasonable when double ESO plus subscriber can’t gift my own crowns to myself - and all verifiable if they’d just glance at billing history.

I can offer hope to all those here who have yet to receive a reply to appeals.
I received my replies and my extra accounts were enabled for gifting.
Yes, it took awhile - and I'm guessing will take longer in the coming days as they sort out the other issues at hand. I am guilty of having the consumer "I'm the only one" syndrome at times, and apologize for that.

My thanks to ZoS for doing this for my accounts, very much appreciated!

To all of you posting here - don't give up!

Good for you. Hope I get the same with my main and ten alternate accounts whose tickets I already posted since last week.
