P2W
It's not really the cost that gets me though, it's, as @Cernow mentioned above, the validation of designing poor mechanics that can be "extended" or bypassed, instead of designing something to be proud of and to break new ground.
Ya, but this is kind of how cash shop games operate.
Now that the game is B2P that ship has sailed.. and we can expect to see more of these "convenience" items that bypass grindy stuff.
Because that's how they are going to make money in the long run.
Personally, I don't mind that much. What would really bug me is if they start nerfing drop rates in game, or raising prices in game, then offering stuff in cash shop that's equivalent.
Ex., if they made V14 PvP bags 60k ap not 6k. Then offered them in cash shop.
Or... nerfed Nirnhood drop to like 0.00000001% then offered it in cash shop.
Either example illustrates, "You can get it in game.. the likely hood is just abysmal. But here it is in the cash shop for 'convenience'". That's exactly what LoTRO did with some stuff and it really irritated a lot of people. Hopefully ZoS has the willpower not to go that route.
Well said sir.
The likeliness of ZOS having the Willpower to not go that route is very slim. With the meager benefits of ESO+ I think it's safe to assume that a HUGE portion of their profits have to come from the Crown Store. The more they rely on the store for revenue, the more they will put in pay to win type items and will shift the game mechanics to "encourage" crown store purchases.
I get a ton of flack for suggesting items for the crown store but I would MUCH rather see things like
- ESO Advanced Mapping Concept
- ESO Character Offspring: A Phylogenetics Concept
- Summonable Beast Merchants and Banker Concept
- Portable Wayshrine Pieces
- Allow Multiple Pets Followers
- More Bags and Encumbrance: Crown Store Concepts
- Monetization of Character Creation Concept
Of course, I would MUCH prefer ZOS make ESO Plus really attractive and not depend on crown store sales....

@Gidorick I vote for a bigger push on your Auction Horse recommendation.

My advice - Pay if you want it. Level it up the standard game way if you don't. Problem solved.
