I know people keep saying this but it isnt how it works on PTS. I have earned 70 points on one character only. All the rest of my VR characters have less than 70 points to use. So not all of your characters will have access to all those points.

If that is the case then make sure to give feedback in the game because you should have 24, 23 & 23 on all vet characters. My VR1's have them as well as my VR12's & 14's

Hi guys! For those who feel like the time it takes to gain a Champion Point is too slow, can you let us know exactly where you were playing (which dungeon, questing area, etc)? Thanks!

I haven't had a chance to hop on to the PTS yet, but I just wanted to say that I want this progression should be slow. I think the way you guys have designed it with diminishing returns is great. Please don't dumb this down or make it easier. I already miss the way dolmens were at launch. :(

If, instead of trying to stretch the Champion progression out indefinitely, ZoS decided to base the Champion progression on the same amount of XP it takes to fully level a VR 14 character, that would mean the 3600 Champion points would be divided into the 13,000,000 xp that it currently takes to level from VR1 -14.

    So: 13,000,000 xp / 3600 Champion points = 3,611.

That would mean 1 Champion point every 3,611 xp.

I think that would be really cool if Champion points were coming at you fast and furious like that...yet it would take just as long as the current VR1-14 grind. The problem is that each point would still feel slightly meaningless, and they would be coming perhaps too fast. So, in my opinion, they should reduce the total number of champion points to 1,000 to give each one more weight/meaining.

So if we divide 13,000,000 (the total amount of xp to go from VR 1 - VR14) by 1,000 (the total number of Champion points I propose) you would get one Champion point every 13,000 xp.

I think this could be fantastic because:

    1. Each Champion point would take about 15 minutes to gain during "regular" play. So they would be coming at you fast and furious - giving a constant feel of progression.

    2. Each point would feel meaningful being about 3x as "strong" as a current champion point.

    3. To complete the cycle it would still take a long time. In fact, exactly the same amount of time as it takes to complete the current VR 1-14 progression.

    4. The progression eventually "ends" so that you have some way of balancing end game content and understanding the range of power of your player base.

The bottom line for me is that you should switch from an endless progression of essentially meaningless points to a well defined and limited progression broken into fewer more powerful decisions. This way players can actually "feel" their progress.

So my concern is that you CP experience bar isn't cross-character. That would help progression a lot if the champion do I gained on character A was present on character B. I'm not sure how difficult that would be to implement. Also when I logged on to my VR1 for the first time he had no enlightenment whereas my VR14 had already accrued it. I'm not sure this was intentional?

Ugh this is so disappointing. I am regretting leveling up my sorcerer to v3 right now if it takes this long to get a cp. Makes me want to delete her and start over going very slow questing so when this hits the servers I might have half a chance to gain some points.

Are there 70 cp possible per character or 70 total to split between all of your characters? On the live server I have a V14 DK, V3 Sorcerer and a lvl8 NB I just started.

Not sure if anyone answered this, getting a headache reading this and have to save my strength for ESO LIVE this afternoon, so sorry if it's just a repeat of info...

The 70 cp is just a one time deal when 1.6 goes live. If you have at least one VR14 character you will get 70cp. There are lower amounts for not having a VR14 at that time but after 1.6 launches the ability to get that initial 70 cp goes away and they will not be awarded.

AFTER that, you earn at the rate of 1 cp to 400,000 xps on any character that is VR1 or higher. Still confused on how you become enlightened, but that supposedly increases your xp/cp generation rate by a factor of either 2 or 4, not sure.

Every single cp can be used by all of you characters at the same time. It is an account based total pool of points that can be used in it's entirety by every character you have.

I can't atest to the time vs. cp gain atm, I haven't been on PTS enough to try.

But judging from what folks are saying here (especially for pvp) there are a couple points I'd like to mention.

I started a thread about this first one. The CP system is flawed. We're all seeing that right now. It's too long to gain one and it's a crutch for the lackluster changes in damage, resource regen, and amor/resistance that's currently on PTS. It's supplementing things for sure, but the original state of the characters in regard to those mechanics mentioned above need to be tweaked way up to feel close to what Live is now. Before needing/wanting to add these champ points.

If not changed, it's going to go live and be extremely bad for new players. I've been playing these kind of games for a very long time. Time enough to know the cry will be epic when little johnny keeps getting kicked from dungeons, or when players are refused entry to high end PVE guilds because they don't have enough points. The same arguements we've had since the announcement of this system.

In terms of PvP, other games have arena's, battlefronts, smaller scale 4v4 or 12v12 type systems that also give XP. ESO does not.

I think ZoS has to know this is the last shot for a vast majority of players to continue with this game. Subscription or not, they will leave in droves if things like this are not addressed and this goes live as is.

At this point I will say that CP levels are way too high or CP gain is way too low in non-enlightened play. This wouldn't be a problem if the Champion system was just extra progression on top of what we had before. But with the nerf to a lot of our base stats this is a poor replacement just to catch up to where we were.

My thoughts exactly. People in 1.6 are now going to have to work for a long time to get some stats back to where they are now in 1.5.

  • Sasky
    Sasky

Short term / conversion: They're nerfing the base stats almost across the board. You'll need much more CP to be VR14-equivalent in power, I'd say probably 400+. Your VR14 character isn't going to be able to complete City of Ash for example right at VR14 + 70CP (except maybe the current groups at the top of the VDSA leaderboard). That feels like a nerf and a grind is required to pick up playing the content as usual.

Long term playing: They wanted CP to be a more frequent and meaningful boost than VR from normal playing. We're not talking flower-picking on the low end or grinding on the high-end, but playing the game through AvA, questing, dungeons, trials, arena, etc. The progress levels from AvA and dungeons currently is a bit prohibitive. Perhaps it needs to be time-based if they can't figure out how to normalize XP gains better.

Enlightenment - Currently, enlightenment is just adding to the confusion, as it isn't well explained or shown in the UI. You should be able to easily find ingame 1) what gains enlightenment, 2) how much can be stored up in pool, 3) how much is available in that pool / how long you have remaining, 3) whether you're enlightened (beyond a tooltip mouseover).

Long term / new players: The diminishing returns are intended to make it easier to catch up and be almost as powerful (within a couple percentage points). However, they're going to need/want to knock out the first 300+ CP to get within that range. It's going to be much worse than VR for catching up to endgame.

I know it won't be 70, it will be based on the V level. Reduce the XP required to 200k, and reduce Enlightened to x2 bonus. So, Enlightened is STILL 100k/point, but non-enlightened is half as much.

You will basically never earn CP from engaging in the Justice System, right now. That pays out more experience than RPing or crafting.

If crafting items applied their XP (and enlightenment) to your CP progression... that would be different, and actually make the writs useful to players... but, right now... not so much.

yeah, with new justice system you get to plan(or not) to steal a thing, you get (or don't) your reward but you fail to get exp(in form of exp towards CP ) for it.
You should definitely get your char CP progression while you sneak around stealing things, avoiding guards/bounty hunters or while you gather nodes or anythign else.

Please share why you think it's ridiculous. I can understand opinions where people have played normally for 4 hours and gained maybe 100k in CP exp so it would take them 16 hours to gain 1 point playing normally. Which also means that if they are not vr14 yet it takes them 40 hours to gain vr lvl.

I will tell you why I think it is bad. My character on the PTS, after investing all the CPs, allocated is weaker than he is on the Live Server. It will take me about 100 more CPs to just catch up with what I had before. Now this is just with the CPs he is allocated for being a VR12 plus. I have not logged to my other two VR characters to get the other 12 or so points I have coming. But those are not going to make me that much stronger. I will try and play with how I allocated the CPs tonight, but I can't see how my VR12 getting killed by VR8 mobs that were not a problem when he was a VR8 on Live is fun.

Since I was being killed so many times, I have not even tried to see how long it will take me to gain points on him. 400K Exp equivalent for one CP that gives a fraction of a percentage point gain in abilities is not a good progression. This is one that will just make me up and stop playing the game if I have am going to be Nerfed out of the gate and have to spend weeks just getting back to where I was before.

There is a huge difference between RP and RPG that some don't seem to get.
The "G" - it stands for "game".

Rules, those a the things that restrict you in whatever way the game designer wants.
Every game revolves around it's rules. Actually those rules are where the fun comes from.

Or imagine chess in a "fair" world, where every piece is a king.
Ether of those two would make playing the game pointless, because as I said:

I perfectly understand that sometimes you don't want to follow any rules.

Looking at the champion system stats and passives, just few hundred points is enough to get most of available power. I think the fastest times to get one CP are okay, but the inconsistency of XP from different sources is not. E.g. Craglorn XP is too little now.

The direct comparison of all CP points to VR14 by @geoffreyb14_ESO‌ is plain wrong. With such speed the whole system is exhausted in a month.

The question should be: "Am I really forced that much?"

This whole to me it seems as most people dislike the CP because they are in this "OMG I got to grind 3600 CP to be competitive"-kind of mindset.
Which I think could be considered BS.

What follows is my thoughts about the CP-system, I do not claim this to be correct.
With 30 points per constellation and you already have most of the gain that comes with the CP. Also at 30 points in one star you are at 7.5% of 15% max. (if I'm not mistaken)

Depending on role and play-style there is a priority star/constellation (each color) where one should dump their first 30 points. Like my NB surely wants her first 30 blue points put into ritual in order to be an acceptable damage dealer.
Those first 90 points to me feel like the "must have" that replaces the VR. But after that all points are more or less nice to have.

Sure things like +15% weapon damage from the atronach sounds good, but it only applies on light/heavy attacks which do like maybe 5% of my DPS (estimated value). Now +0,75% don't sound that good anymore.

Back to the first 90 points:
Those are the ones that you "need" to be competitive.
For someone who is VR14 now that means 20 additional points, which should be possible to achieve within a week.
For a casual player who might not even be V1 this still is less way to go than Veteran Ranks were since there is this enlightenment buff. With the buff you need only 9 million XP whereas you need 13 million XP to reach VR14.

Again, is just as I see things at the very moment. This might be proven correct or wrong within the next few months.

Took me 1h 10min on a slow horse.

    I earned 500k CP-XP, with enlightenment.

Thanks for doing this and reporting. Here's the problem for ZOS: if I'm in Cyrodil, I want to be pvp'ing, not doing quests.

Exactly, and I can envision being grouped up with my PvP guild, trying to do the best we can for our alliance when an Enlightenment message pops up. Sorry guys, but I need to drop group and stop contributing to the war effort so I can have a chance at earning a CP today.
