Because of subclassing and awful balancing from ZOS.
One of my problems with PvP was always how unbalanced were the fights between coordinated players and bunch of solo or duo players running in zerg.
Zergs always had only the power they build for. No stacking sets, heals, shields. Some ultimates dont work on players who arent on your group.
Coordinated players on the other hand... If the only benefit they had was communication, it would be already pretty big advantage.
But that's not all.
Each player brings up 2 sets or 3 if we count monster sets. So if you have a good group of 10 players who build for PvP... You have a group full of players with power of 20 - 30 sets.
On top of that they can stack heals, shields and coordinate ults.
How players who have the power of 2 - 3 sets fight aganist players with power of over 20? It was already bad enough but now we add subclassing so all those group players pick the best skill trees possible making the diffrence even bigger.
Why should i play when i feel like im only here so group of players have somebody to farm?
And im not only talking about ball groups. With the power creep even small coordinated groups have a big advantage over other players.
And not all players want to min max and play in groups. Some just want to jump in for an hour or two, siege some keeps and then go do something else.
The last time i was in Cyro i have seen 3 ball groups in a single keep. Why would i ever want to return to that? So yeah, im not touching PvP anymore.

I'm curious to hear why so many players avoided this most recent Midyear Mayhem event. Each event the turnout gets lower, but this time it's shockingly low. The added campaigns were not needed at all. Personally speaking, I only played a little for the first 2 days and lost interest after that. I have a long list of reasons, but it would probably be useful for ZOS to see other perspectives.
Feel free to share your reasons.
Personally I will only come back for PvP when a new Vengeance campaign is on.
I do login for my tickets for 5 minutes for a scout and IC rescue mission. Haven’t been contested once so far.
This traditional event doing worse numbers than Vengeance is good for telemetry and increasing our chances to have an extra dedicated Vengeance playlist in the future

There are a lot of reasons and I'm definitely not a serious enough pvp'er to get into it all. I'll leave that to more knowledgeable folks.
But at at least from my own perspective and a lot of players I know; for those of us who don't live and breathe pvp, I think vengenace gave us a glimpse of how it might actually be fun and brought even more attention to the problems in current live pvp. And then subclassing came at the same time and kinda doubled down on the things that make pvp awful. And it sorta becomes this self-reinforcing problem where fewer non-regular pvp'ers are interested in mayhem, and then others see the population is low and either don't bother, or maybe try mayhem out and see that it's just the regulars and the bigger battles they might remember from past mayhems, which generally included a fair number of newer / casual / inexperienced pvp'ers, aren't happening, and they have little chance of finding any enjoyment, so they log out and the cycle repeats.

I think this would be a good change.
I still wish they'd do something with Animate Blastbones ultimate... It's the reason I used to play the class, but now the duration of corpses and 5 pet cap makes it too unreliable to proc the ultimate in PvP, when it was already unreliable + dodgeable... And the blastbones that it summons immediately despawn if you're not attacking something, rather than giving you a few seconds to direct them, makes the ability so frustrating to use, as you're wasting 350 ultimate.
Also the skeletal mage/archer is too short... Wish they would increase the duration to 30 seconds.

The materials are too rare, and the recipe even more so. I picked up the molten torte recipe, and they aren't really worth crafting either.

Uhhm, aren't you seeing this the wrong way around? Wouldn't it be real 'sportmanship' and 'adult' to NOT spawncamp enemies that already can't win, and allow them the opportunity to re-group? Real sportmanship/adult-behaviour would mean the team that is crushing the other team, would allow the enemies to re-group.
Ofcourse your enemy is not going to help you slaughter them!
Nope. Speaking as someone who is mediocre to poor at PVP in this game- absolutely not.
Get Good as the saying goes. Anyone with the decision to focus can be good at this aspect of the game if they decide. Because my focus is PVE an housing and I have neglected to develop any pvp skill to speak of- If I click that button to play PVP then it is on me to develop my skills. Not cry on a ledge because I have stepped into the lion's den.
I mean what does this even look like? Letting you live because you suck? lol.
