I found the poll accurate as to what could possibly happen based on the way things have been handled in the past, such as account wide achievements, and really balanced pretty well, especially thanks to the last option.

Of course, everyone hopes it’s a non-issue and will be handled differently, but theoretically in the event that I might have to change one or more of my characters’ names, I would be very upset and I would consider not playing because character names are an intricate part of my characters’ identities, much more so than what skills they currently have in case I decide to take advantage of Subclassing and switch something around. That would be my same character just learning new skills, but if I had to change their name that would do away with something that is at the core of who the character is to me.

In the real world, we sometimes switch professions and have to learn new skills, and then we might get rusty in our older skills unless we relearn them, but we don’t usually have to change our names, so I apply that to my gaming characters as well.

This is all just my opinion, of course, and I know a lot of people feel differently.

I’m almost sure that Jessica said the Writhing Wall event will launch simultaneously on both PC and consoles in another post somewhere recently when someone else asked that question.

I would add to that my actual account names too! I presume it will not be possible to have multiple accounts with the same names, who get to keep theirs and who loses out would for me be a very big issue!

I suspect this is a very big part of the issues they need to resolve before implementing cross play.

I don't know how they could resolve this but our user id and character names are probably the most important parts of our accounts for a lot of players.

Besides the name issue, PC and Console have very different ways of doing many things. I can foresee a lot of conflict arising from this.

By the time they'd get around to releasing crossplay, they'd have time to align whatever it is you're referring to. I mean, adding mods to consoles is really a first, GIANT step towards crossplay, if we're being honest, and that's already up and running well, from what I can tell.

Not so much. It's bug riddled. When itworks, it works. But the AutoSave bug/error gets old really fast.

It's nice that people trust ESO would copy newer games and just put a symbol next to the character's name, but a lot of things in the game are modelled on older MMOs from the days when a server merge meant they set some rule for who got to keep the name (like the oldest character or most played) and any others were greeted with a forced name change when they next logged in.

Until ZOS tell us how it's going to work I wouldn't assume any solution is obvious or guarenteed.

Even if another solution is possible all it needs is for the person making the decision to be the kind of person who thinks character names don't matter and surely no one would care so they don't allow any time to develop a solution.

This is why I included Other - Because it's impossible to list every possibility.

I am not sure what other positive I could have added. Either players wouild not be bothered or it would only be a mnior issue.

And I purposely made this annonymous and did not make any statements about my own view in the description so as to not influence others' responses. I wanted players true feelings.

What will this do to future names once crossplay goes live? Will every name, whether there is a duplicate or not, have the server initials after it?

I just find that to be immersion breaking, unless they only showed the server intitals when mousing over the character, or something like that. Or if we had a way to not show it, like we can now with titles, etc..

It wont be more immersion breaking then the alliance ranks symbols. Because its literally not more. A little icon.

And maybe thats gonna be a off toggleable option and if not im sure someone is gonna make a addon for that

The ranks have different symbols wich change with you doing pvp.

At the begin its some sort of square and later it goes on to be a strar, two stars etc till its a circle of stars.

Well if it only shows while doing PvP then that explains why I never noticed them. I will go to Cyrodiil today and see if I see these.

Either way, I rarely PvP so I am not used to seeing such things next to player's names in the PvE zones where I spend most of my time. So they would definitely stand out to me as something new and different.

In PVE land when you mouse over a player, you see their cp level, their name and on the right their alliance rank and by colour their alliance as Amilegee showed above

I put months into planning my characters, including their names. If ESO forced me to change all of my characters’ names, that would basically be a dealbreaker for me.

The best solution would be for them to first divorce character names from any of the internal code to allow multiple players to use the same names, and then nobody would have a problem. Any whispers or mails could go through account name instead, and then who cares if we have 15 “Geralt of Winterhold”s running around if each has a different account behind it.

I don't see alliance rank symbols on other players.

They are part of the base game and next to every name.

Idk if its a setting or addon toggling that off for you, but i can imagine something like that can be possible for players of other plattforms too.
