Longer answer: We have scoping and are aligning resources for this initiative and will share more when we have better timelines.
For the time being, I can say that the some core values for this are...
\- This is optional and no one will be forced into it
\- There will be varied levels of difficulty players can opt into
\- We will NOT be separating players

These responses personally make me feel like the timeline has been pushed back but I'm not sure.
@ZOS_Kevin
Is this still slated for the current content pass?
Was it ever slated for the current content pass? I do not remember seeing/hearing any mention of it. Would be great to see a quote if it exists.
Yes. I asked about it coming out this year, 2025, after the April livestream. My question was referencing a statement made at the end of 2024 that we'd know more in 2025. And I was reassured that the current plan was still that it would come out this content pass.spartaxoxo wrote: »Thank you for the response. I guess my follow up question is if this is something still so early into prototyping, is this is something still planned to drop this year? I know last year, it was stated that it would be coming this year which lead to many of expecting news during the live. The new content cadence was stated to help with speed of releases so I wonder if this is still possibly coming this year?As of right now, the goal is to still have this out during the content pass timeline. But if that changes, we will update once we have a clear picture if anything changes.
However, between the statements made in the AMA and the layoffs, I am not convinced that this is still the case. A lot has changed at ZOS and those statements make it sound like it's not that far in development.
@spartaxoxo Thanks a lot. I would be very surprised if we get this this year.
You're welcome. I'd be surprised too but I'd still like confirmation since we were told we'd be updated if things changed. Seems easy enough since the Livestream is this Thursday.
Just to level set, while overland difficulty is in active development, it's not something that will be ready to be released before the end of the year. We're definitely excited to share more information on it as development progresses, though!

I appreciate you guys organizing this; hope more things like this happen!
I still feel like the feedback of "we want more concrete details" isn't being heard. Maybe it is, and things are underway, who knows. But, it really does feel like most of the responses were vague. I don't want you guys to feel like you can't win, but that's something that really needs to be improved on.
Susan had a good post where it sounds like there's more people being hired/assigned to talk with us, so that's one great concrete insight.
First, thank you for praticipating in the AMA/AUA. Susan noted that you had some great questions and wished she could answer everything right now. But hopes to be able to answer everything more thoroughly later once we have more plans shared for next year.
I do want to hit on the concrete details part. We are trying to provide everything we can at the moment. Some of this stuff is still in flight, so there isn't concrete information to give quite yet. For example, I believe Susan answered a questions about logistics of crossplay and what we are thinking, but it is actively being worked on and will be a lengthy process. So that is why she noted we are a long ways out. If we described what we have now as concrete and things changes later, then we are setting everyone up for disappointment. So we are trying to be careful with things that are in active but not concrete development.
However, we are trying to provide all the information we have at the moment. Which is why we touched on things like crossplay, overland difficulty, character writing/development and general balance.
We will have more of these planned, in addition to finishing off the PvP Q&A (I noted that above) and having additional surveys to get more feedback on changes we are making and additions to the game.

We gonna be rocking in ESO when we are in our 90s hahaha
They have given away ESO on Epic for free once too.
I have the original launcher, but since the Epic freebie I only play it there because I don't have to put in my password anymore (since Epic launcher handles that automatically).
I assume there players like me who grabbed it and play on Epic since then.
Pretty sure the writhing wall event, second part of the zone and Vengeance 3 will prove the 'game is dying' people wrong once again.
The steam numbers also prove their seasonal model (which is not even a full seasonal model this year) is working. The past years there where huge highs when a chapter launched followed by a high fluctuation of deep lows after the content dried out. This year there has been a moderate summer holiday dip but otherwise the numbers have remained fairly steady with their release cadence of a zone, pursuits, 2 dungeon packs, Vengeance etc.
I know people over here won't like it but player number wise the game is doing absolutely great, especially after switching to a new model. 2025 shows the most consistent player counts month-to-month.To be fair, I think players are massively underestimating ESO's overall playerbase. This may be because of all the issues and negativity around here, and the game's major issues being discussed often(PvP/performance/fake roles/etc).
This a 100 percent. We forum dwellers are just a tiny tiny tiny part of the playerbase. Most of the things you read here is mostly negative stuff where usually the same handfull people keep echo chambering the same 5 topics for the past 5 years and when they eventually get closed they create a brand new topic to revert back the same discussion they have been having for 5 years. It is quite amusing. This all really contrasts with my ingame experience where my guilds and even pugs of dungeons and trials are usually a very friendly and wholesome experiences.
