Girls and boys in the game

Hi, I´m curious to know how many women are actually playing the game, and for that I´d like to survey:
How many men have actually girl characters in game?

You can make polls. I'm not quite sure why it matters unless you are trying to date through gaming...

For statistics sake I am female.

BUT... if you are the looking for a relationship type...I am an extremely hairy, overweight, don't bathe except in the rain 45 year old man that lives in Mommy's basement :D
If options weren't necessary, and everyone played the same way, no one would use addons. Fix the UI!

Don't you know there are no girls on the internet?

Seriously, though, in my main guild it seems like a pretty even male-female mix amongst the active members. Although, thinking about it, having a female GM might mean that the number of female members is higher than you'd otherwise expect. I don't know?

Speaking for myself, I'm a guy and I have both male and female characters.

I don't really know why, except that maybe it's because all the games I played from 1980 onwards had male "heroes" and it just stuck in my head...yeah, I don't mean to be "sexist"! Women Rock!

I'm pretty sure that, even in a poll thread, there would still be girls lying to prevent special kinds of attention, and/or guys doing the same precisely for that special kind of attention.

So you cold make an anonymous poll like "
    - Guy that play a Guy
    - Guy that pretends to be a Girl
    - Girl that pretends to be a Guy
    - Girl that plays a Girl

I'd like to see those numbers

Husband and wife duo (I'm the wife) guild leaders here and from what I can tell we're pretty even up on male and female players. Although I'm pretty much the only one that seems to play all female characters. Some of our female players play male characters and some of the males play female characters. Our ages range from early 20s to over 50. We have gay, straight, bi and who knows what else players. What everyone does have in common is a love of the game, the lore, and roleplaying. So nothing else much matters.

Um, no, that only works for people who RP as their characters. And for people who actually have a "main" as opposed to having multiple characters that they play relatively equally.

@pablinski You wouldn't happen to be a console player would you? I have yet to hear a female voice once on the NA Xbox megaserver, but I'm a long time PC player and this game has so many women who play on the PC that no one finds it remarkable to hear a woman's voice when you hop on someone's voice chat.

It's pretty easy to tell by the characters appearance and gamertag name (on console) if the girl character is played by a girl. If it's an overly gaudy girl with max boobs, min slim and not wearing pants then you know that's a boy playing her. If it's a respectable looking lady then there's a good chance that it's an actual woman playing.

Many men play female characters. I play mostly female characters. I blame the Tomb Raider series for getting me used to looking at a female character in third person while fighting big bad fearsome beasts for whom I should be nothing more than a slight annoyance and a meal.

I'm male, and I have been playing mostly female characters in most games where that choice is allowed: all TES games, all Fallout games, the Dragon Age series. Not Mass Effect, though, for some reason. Perhaps it was the strong focus on interpersonal relations that made that particular game feel better while playing as my own gender. (And no, stop giggling, y'all. I am referring to all the relations, not just the feeble attempts at portraying love affairs.)

I have no idea why this is. It could simply be "because boobs" and I am a shallow and pathetic person, but I honestly think that my reasons are better than that, or at least more diverse.

Why does this even matter? Eggghh. Okay, setting aside the very obvious annoying male-bias of this entire thread ... "I'm curious how many women are playing because they gotta be rarer than perfect roe in this game," I'll just say this:

Girls play video games. Build a big freakin' bridge and get over it.

Should I be sad that no one has hit on me no matter what character I am playing?

I have two male main characters and two female main characters. Why? Why not? I don't identify with any of them, they all have back stories that fit the role they play. For example, the Sorcerer is a petite spark plug of a sorcerer who takes on any and all mobs. Her friends growing up said that she would never amount to anything as she was so tiny. She is out to prove them wrong. The Templar is a tall High Elf who is proud and strong and heals as she takes life. My Nightblade is a Pillsbury dough-boy of character that I tried to make look like, well, I can't remember as he is so fugly that he is the only character who always wears a helmet. My Dragonknight is just a Imperial guy trying to get through the world, but also hates the Imperials and what they do to their captives in the war.

As for playing, I have not noticed any behavior towards me that is based on the gender of the character I have active. The nice people are still nice, the neutral people are still neutral and the few jerks are still jerks. No one has hit on me with either gender. The conversations have all been about the game or whatever is going on in front of us.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

Ah, that's still overgeneralizing it. Plenty of people like me out there (at least I hope there are) that treat it like writing a character, and can create opposite gender characters and play/rp them realistically as a person, not a thing.

I've played male characters in video games - in fact, all three of my majors in Skyrim were male because the female walk animation SUCKED and the run was simply embarrassing. In Oblivion, I played mostly women. In Fallout, four girls, two guys. In Borderlands 2, I played all six character types.

I guess that means I have gender issues.

Yeah, this has also been my experience. With one exception, I haven't noticed anyone in-game care at all about anyone's gender. The one exception was a creepy guy who made a bunch of inappropriate comments to a female guildie, and after a couple of warnings ended up getting kicked out of the guild for it. And I definitely haven't noticed any different behavior depending on whether I'm playing a female or a male character.
