Forum Structure Update Feedback

I do miss the dislike button from the beta forums and it sucks that a few people running around abusing it (disliking every post in every thread lol) ruined it for everyone. I think a much better solution would have been to ban users who were abusing rather than remove the feature for everyone.. It also lets you express yourself more fully since all of the options now are encouragement.

Please explain how clicking on a dislike button is more expressive than actually posting. I don't know about you, but when I disagree with someone, I actually tell them why I disagree. Which is better done via a thoughout statement/arguement, not a meaningless dislike.

I don't remember ever saying that it was more expressive. It's irrelevant which method is the most expressive. It's just one form of expression. Like the agree button, and the insightful button, and the LOL button, and the Awesome button... You can use the button, or reply with a post, or you can do both. It's just another option to have.

I do believe that users at times pushes the fancy buttons provided by the vanillaforums plugins, without a doubt. That it is not always that a comment are needed nor warranted. We can try and look at the system as mature as possible and acknowledge that the buttons are mere tools, but as such it is and will always be ripe for abuse, just as any other system, e.g. the karma/smite system for smf-sites which can be abused repeatedly via hot-linking to my experience, and I don't need to be logged in.
Personally I'd scrap it, since it says absolutely nothing of the user to me, as you said the contents of the users post is what matters. Though it is the negative awards that are the most abusive and those are best avoided, specially if we want to keep the mood somewhat nominal on the site.

It was the last line of the quote, I removed a few irrelevant lines, they literally added/detracted nothing. But your last line is how having a dislike button gives you a wider range of expression.

    Which is where I disagree.

Agree/Awesome/Insightful are all indicators that you agree with what the poster is saying. Actually posting "/Agree" or "+1" is pretty pointless.

However if you disagree, it makes more sense to post and say why you disagree. It might be a minor point you disagree with, something easily modified. Or you might disagree with the entire concept. Either way it is much much clearer when you state why you disagree, rather than just clicking on a button.

Like what I have done with this post.

Any update on the ETA of the Developer Tracker and other features?
We're getting closer and closer to 1.3 and probably going to end up with the massive long posts which break it for days again. :'(

This forum desperately needs a better layout and class specific subsections.

Not sure why all the multi-language forums are all commingled together with the English...

seems a list type of forum layout works best.

My only significant issue with the forums in the colour scheme. The white glow around the text on the dark beige background is difficult to read. If you want to keep the same theme at least swap over the dark and light beige so the posts are on a light background.

Currently the colour scheme is very poor design from an accessibility perspective.

I don't get that, I see Black text on dark beige, eminently readable.
I don't know if it's a browser issue (I use firefox) or whether you have some setting set differently to me.

Very first forum page should be something like

    "Welcome to the Forums"
    "English"
    "Deutsch"
    "Fancais"

Then we can all click on whichever language we want and be presented with forum topics in that language, and bookmark that page as our main forum page.

I cannot understand why so many people have a problem with the front page including links to all three languages. Is it really so difficult to find the one for you, [snip]

My only gripe with the new layout is that we seem to have lost "Server Status".

Personaly have nothing against seeing three different languages but one has to wonder what the EN / DE / FR options are doing on top of the page. Seems like they forgot those links on top to made them work? Because clicking them makes no difference in what is shown on the page.
Should be a minor task I think for a webdeveloper?

And it has nothing to do with people being "closet xenophobes" it has to do with wanting and seeing a convenient website.

The forum structure update is now complete. We welcome you to post in this thread to share your thoughts and feedback on these changes. This was the first step in several changes we'll be implementing on the forums over the coming weeks and months. Please remember to follow the Code of Conduct when sharing your opinions with us.Thank you!

What changed? It looks exactly the same to me. What I would love is a mobile optimized version.

Can we not attach files to posts in the General Discussion forum? Or is that just me..

This feature has been deactivated - except in our Customer Support forum

    Why can't we attach files?

The forums need a tool/setting that deactivates auto-loading of image files. OTherwise a hacker could post a picture that links to hostile site that starts loading of scripts.

Furthermore... I dont' want to have to see other user's images/videos unless I want to: Especially given the excessive use of MEMEs/YouTube here...

As a person who speaks English and French, I actually want to see the English and French threads, and frankly, Google Translate does a passable job on the German threads combined with my rudimentary German.

Why are we suddenly unable to click shut the giant ugly red notifications at top of forum now?

They take up to much space, look horrible, and if I've read them and no longer need to see them they should be able to be closed, like they used to be (until today).

meh this is what you get when you buy a stock forum, Penny Arcade has a somewhat better layout than this, that they utilizes the browsers width.
