This is the official feedback thread for the new Mount Swimming feature. Specific feedback that the team is looking for includes the following:
  • Does mount swimming feel natural and organic as you traverse Tamriel?
  • Are you experiencing any new issues with your mount on land?
  • Are there any additional thoughts you’d like to share?

Since we have mounts on the spotlight this PTS cycle, I'd like to bring up an ongoing issue that has been in the game for a few years now.

Basically, mounts like Heavyweights, Felines and Serpentes, after having their speed fully maxed out and under the Gallop buff, have an issue where, whenever you set them to walk, they instead use their running animation while "sliding" on walking speed.

This is a very annoying thing if you want to walk around with your mount, as they look like they're sliding on ice, all the other mount types don't have this issue at all, and still use their walking animation even on the same speed upgrades, I'm honestly surprised this haven't been fixed, since mounts are basically the main crown crate attractions.

I recorded a video of how other mounts can properly walk and how the bugged ones look like in comparison, alongside how their animation is meant to be at the end:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ldqhY2MokQ

I believe this only occurs on keyboard, as controllers have more control over speed, one solution would be making walking not scale with speed bonuses, or just fix the cause as a whole.
@MorvanClaude on PC/NA, don't try to trap me with lore subjects, it will work

Yes, I have reported this several times and it was fixed once years ago but then broke again.

This patch brings lot of bad changes to combat and abilities :/ But as for a mount swimming... I absolutely love this new feature!

    1) Does mount swimming feel natural and organic as you traverse Tamriel?

Yes! Now that our mounts can finally swim, next step for the most comfortable and seamless navigation is flying/climbing the mountains while mounted, please <3

    2) Are you experiencing any new issues with your mount on land?

I've sent the report for this bug on PTS, but I will also share it here. Senche-type mounts on this PTS don't have pawprints and footstep sounds when running/sprinting. I first noticed it when a senche mount was running through the shallow water - no sounds and no water splashes as he moved.

When senche mounts walk/jump, all their effects are shown/heard normally.

    3) Are there any additional thoughts you’d like to share?

For me, the most funny and cute swimming style is Senche-style, with the tip of their tail above the water when moving

    Screenshot-20250709-012407.jpg

Overall, their swimming moves are too cute, I can't wait for them on live!

The coolest feeling when swimming for me is on Spider - it moves smooth like a boat!

    Screenshot-20250709-012708.jpg

I will only get Mammoth mount on live if it's from event/free promotion. But I like riding it on PTS; and it is amusing to see such heavy creature jumping like an elegant Ornaug while swimming :D

    Screenshot-20250709-011939.jpg

I really love that it is possible to jump while swimming! I think that it would be also nice to sprint while swimming too :)
Now it would be awesome to see more zones with lot of beautiful water landscapes for our mounts to swim around (without slaughterfish).

Also, just to share my observations... I tried to swim on a senche mount into slaughterfish to see if there would be some new effects. He didn't have any special sounds/animations for being damaged in the water; when he was eaten (together with my character), I heard the sound of a body dropped on the ground, and the senche disappeared while my character's body remained floating on the water surface. I don't like to put my character into fatal situations on purpose, but sometimes, when he dies together with his mount on land, both bodies remain lying on the floor.

I'm not sure if it's worth adding a death effect to our mounts in the water, because fatal Slaughterfish situations are easy to avoid... unlike the underestimation of incoming fall damage or having a bio break in the unexpected mob respawn area :D

I never had patience to do post it, but before the change to base mounted speed in one of recent major patches, I recorded detailed videos about mount movements with/without buffs and on 0% vs upgraded mounted speed. All mounts had unique slow walk animations, which are now lost. Maybe one day I'll post about it, but I can only say that:

    1) I don't support removing any movement animations from mounts, they all must be accessible in one way or another. "Sliding" slow run of Feline mounts is actually my favorite mount animation in ESO, it would be very sad to not have it anymore :/
    2) Canine mounts had amazing smooth slow run animation only on the tallest polymorphs/or the 0% speed upgrade characters. I miss this very much :'( I can only access this animation now when moving through certain swamps in Murkmire (because they apply extra slow debuff).

I tried mount swimming totally by accident (that is, I knew it was implemented but got distracted and forgot)! When my Spider easily glided into the water instead of dismounting me – SO nice!!

Later in Solstice, I had to get to the other side of the island across the water. What a breeze, mounted! So much faster! Love this.

Are you experiencing any new issues with your mount on land?
Not yet. Only that I have a slight... well, don't want to call it "PTSD" as that's a serious thing, but a 'flinch', say, around water that will take some time to pass :D

Are there any additional thoughts you’d like to share?
Not yet. This + Sprint Toggle are great QOL changes, thanks!

It looks really cool most of the time as much of the time we are in relatively shallow water where it's believable.

It can start to look a little ridiculous if you are riding a horse that's jumping up and down in deep water but, that would also generally be a player's choice.

    I didn't run into any.

The Argonian Racial abilities might need an enhancement at some point.

The mount swimming is all wrong.
It's waaay too fast. This leads to two problems:
    1. It's very immersion breaking to ride through deep water at a gallop.
    2. Anyone on their mount passes my swimming Argonian. Argonians don't get much, racially, so taking away the swimming advantage is a real low blow.
The mounts should swim slower than a walking pace - make them swim the same speed as players swim.
