    Greetings,

We have recently removed some non-constructive comments as well as some unnecessary back and forth from this thread. Please remember that while it’s alright to disagree or even debate with each other, provoking conflict, baiting, inciting, mocking, etc. is never acceptable on our forums. If there may be any questions in regards to the rules, please feel free to review them here.

    Thank you for your understanding.

I respectfully did what you asked me to do by clicking on the link that has the rules.

One of the rules clearly states that it is a violation of the rules to post "goodbye I quit posts"

Goodbye/Quitting Threads: We understand that sometimes people will leave the ESO community, and want to post a “goodbye” or “quitting” thread. Generally, we have found that “goodbye” and “quitting” threads have a tendency to go downhill fast. It is our policy to read the feedback in “goodbye” and “quitting” threads and close them, regardless of whether they are constructive or not.

I recommend closing the thread down because it is against the rules.

Eh, Nefas didn't post this thread. Someone else did, to tell Nefas goodbye after watching the video. Normally, they close "goodbye" threads posted by those actually leaving the game, not someone who will miss a YT streamer.

THIS isn't a "goodbye I'm quitting thread". Heck, it wasn't even posted BY Nefas himself.

This is a thread about losing a long time content creator that has helped so flippin' many people learn how to play or even how to get into harder content in this game. The least some of ya'll can do is be respectful to the people this guy has HELPED FOR FREE for all these years.

To take the title literally: the op is writing a goodbye letter to his or her favorite live streamer. Thats what this thread was originally is for.

It somehow eventually derailed into some kind of a debate about who is for and who is opposed. Lots of comments with various opinions were thrown around and the moderators ate some of them like sandwiches.

I wouldn't mind if this gets closed sometime later on.

    @ZOS_Icy
never mind. I'm keeping this comment even when some don't quite understand it.

The problem is that Nefas himself was very controversial on his videos and many on both sides have their view on him shutting something down due to players having a view isn't right no matter where. No matter whether you agree or not isn't really anyone choice at all.
For me i can see the post continuing and let the player base on both sides say what there experience with the person either positive or negative be said.
Some have suffered and some have benefited threw his videos and such.

people have been posting their grievances on here for the longest time. if we counted the days since the last complaint thread the 0 would've dry rot by now.

that's not gonna change with a content creator leaving. that's the evolution of a game that's been live for almost a decade now. ZoS will take the thread down if they deem it to have been entirely derailed into bashing the guy, which hasn't happened yet.

you're allowed to have debates on here. it's actually encouraged. what's a discussion if it doesn't have a little back 'n forth?

Regardless i think that rule is more aimed at people making posts about themselves quitting. Or like im done with eso, goodbye everyone. I dont think its aimed at people who want to show respect and say goodbye to a pillar of the pve community.

And the fact that you are in here multiple times complaining, and trying to get the thread removed, really says a lot. Pretty sure i asked this before, or maybe it was to someone else, but if you dont care, if you dont like it, if you dont like nefas, why are you wasting your time?

please close the thread i say becasue we get snipped for all kinds of stuff, while writing a goodbye thread is not allowed writing it to someone else is ? why not just let everyone aim thier goodbye threads at others players when they leave ? because over the last few days i have really been holding myself back writing goodbye threads now i know this is allowed, just only have to make sure title is goodbye your leaving. and other than the posts that got removed or edited for meaning that was not intended this post also went downhill fast. so if someone is going to be allowed to write a goodbye thread but nobody is allowed to say glad your leaving, whats the point in making it a general discussion? never the less good bye nefas (until maybe the next new trial) but considering most posts are moved to appropriate places if you imagine goodbye im leaving threads where allowed would goodbye your leaving threads not be placed in the same topic ? at the end of the day its a goodbye/quitting thread and thats that edited to point that shows that its allowed because the whole community knew and will miss him

Nefas isn't just a regular player, he's a major source of information for the game. So, it's relevant to many more people than just those who enjoyed his stream or played with him. Plenty of people use his site to learn things about the game, so his status his highly relevant.

This doesn’t really seem to be a goodbye thread really. More of a discussion on how ESO’s changes over the years have affected how some people obtain information about the game not freely given. The sources for that kind of info, if you follow streamers and content creators, have decreased and some are concerned. Some have also chimes in that they don’t follow content creators so they aren’t affected as much.

I don't think this is contentious and neither are the consequences of their scaled back activity in terms content.

Any controversy is about what their decision tells us about the direction of the game and its community.

And to a considerable degree what the 'right direction' is, is a matter of opinion. If you share Nefas' perspective, then them throwing in the towel can be seen as a 'red flag'. If you don't, then it means very little.

My opinion is that ESO is an ageing game, and that as it ages there's a shift in focus from 'striving combatants' to 'role playing collectors'. Whether that's the result of a deliberate choice by ZoS or ZoS following the money from moment to moment, that's where we are right now. (just look at the Grim Focus discussion, where ZOS making a skill much more powerful seems to generate less goodwill with its users than its admittedly poor new visuals loses them).

But in this community, who exactly gets to say which direction is 'right' or 'wrong'? I think Nefas probably just faced up to the fact that ZOS, and with it the community took a different turn from where they'd have liked it to go. To call that a 'red flag' or something though, that's kind of needlessly insulting to people who actually are happy with the way things are going. It invalidates their play style as "wrong". Which isn't cool.

Btw, I'm more of a striver myself and I don't collect anything or care much about visuals. Just in case anyone thinks I'm trying to validate my own choices. This is just my best explanation for why referencing streamers/content creators isn't always popular.

I didn't really watch his content, unless there was a video that was shared around a lot in my discord servers, but I do appreciate all the work his has done for the ESOU website, and more importantly, he also has consistently tried to guide more players into vet trials by organizing various raiding projects for years, which takes a lot of organization, time, effort and energy. There's not really other streamers who have consistently tried to do things like that for the community, so regardless of how you feel about him as a content creator, I think it's a big loss for the game when people who are doing so many community events leave. He has done similar videos in the past about the decline of the game or his dissatisfaction with some of ZOS' decisions, and though I do think that part of it is for the 'clicks', in his case I honestly think he cared a lot about the game, and that's why he got frustrated when he felt it was failing him. Anyway, I hope he comes back to ESO one day, and if he does, that the community happily welcomes him back.

It's cyclical. Someone new will pop up.

I noticed Nefas became a lot more relevant right around when Alcast stopped producing as much content. Right now there's basically an opening - someone new will fill the space.

I think that's one of the issues - will someone actually dedicate the same massive amount of time and effort to this aging game that Nefas did? Is someone really going to pay out of their own pocket for large websites dedicated to ESO and build up active discord servers with thousands of players? Is someone really going to spearhead cross-platform ESO projects and events for the community?

It's not Nefas per se that's really at the heart of people's concerns in this thread, but all the underlying implications of what it means when an extremely dedicated player and contributor steps away from the game especially when there are so many unhappy players atm.

I have to confess that I just don’t understand this thread, especially why it has turned from a nice simple “Goodbye, good luck, thank you for all you’ve done” thread into a seven page “Look what ZOS has done, doom and gloom, the game is dying” or “Content creators are not important” thread. It’s like almost every thread nowadays always devolves into an “us against them” type thread. In this case we have on one side the people who value what content creators bring to MMOs verses the people who do not think they are important or even seem to know what they are.

I don’t know how long Nefas has played ESO but it’s obviously been a long time. I’ve played off and on (mostly on in recent years due to losing interest in other games or other games closing down) since beta myself and am still enjoying ESO. But it’s totally understandable if someone like Nefas or anyone for that matter decides to take a break. In his own words, he says he feels like he’s created so much content that right now there’s just nothing more to do at this point. Is there some unwritten rule that says once you become a content creator for a game you are forced to play that game until the servers are turned off, or that you only may leave if the game is almost dead? I don’t think so. Nefas can leave or take a break if he chooses for the reasons he shared and it doesn’t have to portend some dire ending of ESO. I appreciate what he and other content creators have done for ESO and hope he comes back, but if he doesn’t I hope he finds a new game he feels as passionate about as he did for ESO. I still love ESO and will continue to play for as long as I enjoy it.

That's pretty much how it is in everywhere you go. There must always be a "right" and a "wrong" side no exceptions.
There is no middle ground to be had, unfortunately.

People mistakenly assumed this was a goodbye thread and used the opportunity to air their grievances at each other.

[snip] 1.) I don't use carry services, it's just not for me, if I want to achieve something, then I go look for a group or do it with guildies and achieve those things in game, by learning. Many of my achievements (especially the 4-man dungeon content) I have done with PUG. But do I despise carry services? No. Not entirely. The only negative thing I can see with carry services is that it made titles, skins etc less rewarding and relevant. Rarity is a commodity and a source of pride in most MMOs, carry services kinda diminishes that. 2.) "It creates unnecessary spam in zone chat" like how is this an issue with carry services? Are you telling me we should ban people from placing ads with their guilds? There are guilds EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. I see put the same ad over and over and over and over and over and over again in zone chat no matter where I go. I mean, what? Did you fill out your ignore list? Also just FYI you can filter out your chat with tabs, go google how you can do that, that way you can go to tabs where if you don't want to see unncessary chat and just want to see you /say, /guild /group etc chats you can just simply go to those tabs. Simple. Doesn't need a rocket science to learn it. 3.) "It creates a possible RMT situation where people are buying gold with RL money to buy these carries" This is an issue with buying gold with real money, not the people who sell the carry. Again, simple, does not need rocket science to figure that out. 4.) "which promotes botters"-- again, how is this an issue with the people who sell carries? If you see a bot, you report it. Or are you telling me when I see a bot in game, I should report the person who just placed an ad who was trying to sell a carry because it's their fault that bots exists? Is that what I'm suppose to do? 5.) Obviously, it's a marketing strategy (duh? obviously), the reason why ZOS waste money and fly people to where ever is because these people are expected to generate traffic for their game, it's not about ZoS listening. Well, maybe, but as far as I can tell the game is still messed up right now, so not really about taking feedback, is it? [snip]
