I saw this. Dude was a pillar of the pve community. Ive been playing a little over 2 years. I do a lot of hard raiding content. Ive found myself moving more away from it. Just loggin on to grab a daily, go to a prog, and parse every now and again. Been revisting other games and discovering new ones. A lot of my friends are doing the same. Eso- its having a really really bad time right now and the future is not looking bright.. its really sad cause i love elder scrolls..

Honestly just waiting for skinnycheeks to quit now...

This guy is far from being a pillar of the PVE community... especially when he makes videos like this as he openly admits that he uses his guild as an end-game carrying service.

Maybe it's not so much the game changing in a bad way, than it is the game not as exciting as the new shiny hotness the Youtubers think will draw more views. Very, VERY few Gaming Youtubers run passion project channels, they're just in it for success and fame and getting big enough to make money.

Lemme guess, this Nefas person is dropping ESO for Starfield?

If you want to get success and fame from doing Youtube videos youre not going to spend years on a game like ESO that has a very small community for streaming/content creation lol.

Saying that people like Deltia or Fengrush who have been doing ESO content basically since launch dont have a passion for the game and are doing it just for the money is just absolutely disrespectful.

Not necessarily going to disagree on the others, though a simple look at Kevduits channel is enough to indicate that ESO does not seem like the right game to do content for if you want to get famous. The few ESO videos he did somewhat recently usually got less than half the views of most of his other videos.

You definitely don’t do ESO videos for views, you do it because you enjoy the game. ESO doesn’t get a lot of views, interest spikes around chapter time but no where near other games.

Take note ZOS thats free advertising going away. This will affect the "hype" over TES VI. That isnt conspiracy theory thats 20+ years of business experience.

This right here is why content creators matter. Fewer content creators means less visibility for the game and the developer. And ultimately that kills the game and decreases future sales for the developer.

Whether you personally watch streamers isn’t the point. The point is that that streamers and other content creators generate interest in a game and help extend its viability.

esou is a gorgeous-looking website, I give him credit for it.. but it doesn't excuse the fact that his guild charges people for carry runs.. which reflects poorly in the community. It's in an abysmal taste. I don't know how many times I've gone to Craglorn and had to report multiple people for spamming in zone about their fraudulent carrying service... selling vTrial skins and vDungeon skins/personalities and so forth. It should be against TOS.

I and many others don't play online games because of livestreamers. Instead we play online games because we enjoy them.

I discover many online games and figure out how to play those without the need for livestreamers and content creators.

It's more fun to play the game for your own enjoyment instead of watching a video of someone else playing.

Tbh, content creators and livestreamers have no control over what I can and can't do. They don't influence me at all.

I'm not a fan of livestreamers and content creators (especially when they dictate everything the game does and what players should and shouldn't do). Everyone should be free to make their own decisions.

That’s like saying reviews or advertising don’t influence you.

The thing is, they DO, even if indirectly. If your favorite restaurant gets a ton of bad reviews and loses enough sales, the quality can go down as they try to cut expenses or they may even go out of business. Maybe the reviews didn’t stop YOU, personally, from eating there - but by influencing others around you they caused your experiences to decrease in quality or be taken away entirely.

So while livestreamers and content creators may not control what you do DIRECTLY in a game like ESO, they still influence your overall experience because without the exposure they give to a game, fewer new players join the game and the overall population is affected. And eventually, the plug on the server gets pulled when the developer decides the cost of keeping the server running isn’t worth it anymore.

Also, really liked those funny videos you used to make like a year ago. I think you are really talented in comedy, keep that in mind for future creations.

A good example of the indirect influence that content creators have is the issues with Wizards of the Coast early this year. They made an ill conceived move that would have gutted the content creator community.

For the majority of players, that would have meant nothing as they didn’t buy third party products anyway. But the backlash led to the D&D movie doing poorly, which means the likelihood of a sequel getting made is greatly diminished - even though it was a pretty decent movie overall.

The only person I've watched on Twitch is Deebeegeek. Not because he's good at what he plays, but because he's been on this journey of experiencing all these games and their worlds on Consoles he's never touched before, and his genuine enthusiasm and emotional investment playing games I grew up with for the first time has been a wonderful viewing pleasure. Right now he's completing his Zelda journey with his long awaited TotK playthrough.

Whereas people just streaming a game they seem to be good at, that I've already been playing, has zero appeal. What's the point watching someone solo Vet Dungeons with their meta builds and a screen crowded with PC Addons?

No one said they created or owned the game. But it’s not simply that they “make videos”. The videos they make are an indirect form of marketing for the game that keeps interest alive a lot longer than it would otherwise. Long running games like MMOs will suffer from attrition over time naturally as people lose interest and leave the game, and without SOMEthing sparking interest and bringing new players into the game, the servers eventually die out - and the publishers eventually shut the servers down for good.

That doesn’t mean that ZoS has to bow to the whims of content creators, but if content creators start leaving in large numbers, that does not bode well for the future of the game

Scamming is against the rules. So, if someone charged you for Emperor but then didn't carry you to that title but instead blocked you so you couldn't message them and ran away with the coin, that would be a scam. High prices are not. The price of a good or service is what people are willing to pay. The more it takes to ensure a service provided, the higher the fee. I can't speak to PC prices, so I don't know if that price is reasonable to what others are charging. But as a general rule, a high price is not by itself an indicator of rule breaking.

There is a lot of MMOs out there, and most of them do not have content creators bringing in new people. Generally speaking, people who watch MMO content are already playing that game. ESO is no different. Steaming is far more relevant to the esports scene than it is to other types of games.

Some of them are officially partnered with Zenimax though… like Nefas. Nefas also has done far more than just make videos about the game. He created a discord focused on getting people into trials, ESOU. ESOU also has a commonly browsed website. Next time you look something up, take a look at the website. Often you’re going to ESOU or ESO-HUB.
