What changed with Arc 2 Tho'at Replicanum?

I used to easily beat her on my main group content character but the last time I tried I kept getting one hit by her until I ran out of threads.

I had first noticed this happening on my newest character and just summed it up to being new and not fully developed yet. Well I made some changes to their build and took them back in today and they did great until Arc 2 Tho'at, where they kept getting one hit again. I even had the Behemoth transformation which is pretty strong and they still kept getting one hit.

I was using Azandar to tank for both of them, which I always did before too, and he usually keeps her aggro, so I don't know what it could be.

Something is very different with this fight now but I don't remember reading about any changes. Does anyone know what is going on?

I haven't noticed anything different.

What exactly killed you? What's on the death recap? The name of the attack and how much it hit for.

i havent noticed anything different with her either

last time i played through the archive went up through arc 6 and didnt notice anything (was also a good run and we nuked her down in like under 2 min)

survivability seemed easier for me on my tanky toon, but its a full necromancer and i think the class masteries really helped with that

That Tho’at is a tricky one, somehow learning how to replicate herself and bringing vilified ink to life…I wouldn’t be surprised if she’s somehow broken into the new Challenge Difficulty system and is changing the challenge difficulties for people that are facing her without them knowing it. ☺️

challenge difficulties are disabled in the archive lol

when i tried it i went in there on a character with something other than the adventurer difficulty selected and was still doing adventurer level dmg lol

I'm embarrassed to say that I can't remember what it was called. I'll run it again tomorrow and write it down.

But whatever it is, it never happened to me before and now it is on 2 characters, only on Arc 2.

Was it her teleport heavy attack? That's like the only thing that should remotely one shot if you don't dodge it.

Exploding blobs maybe? Know I get cruising along and have forgotten about them at times.

Whatever it is she doesn't do it in Arc 1.

tho'ats moveset doesnt change at all regardless of which arc shes on

the only difference between the fights is the spawning of the other phases (atro, mantikora, and dragon)

the phases spawn when the previous phase hits 50%, so could have been the atro spawning a lot of stuff and that killing you

I've done all of Tho'at's phases, and my main group content player has defeated her in Arc 2 using Azandar to tank multiple times and now the last time I fought her I was one hit.

I took that character to see if there was anything different after my newer character that should have been able to defeat her kept getting one hit. I was surprised that she was one hit, too.

I'm going to run this again today on one of them and see what happens. If I get one hit I'll take the other tomorrow. It's too tiring for me to do too many Arcs in one day.

The fact that it was a one-hit on Arc1 makes me think it is reflected damage. Are you dealing damage to her when she has the mirrors up? Since you're a Werewolf you might have a lot of strong DoTs ticking away. I'm not sure if they get counted during that phase but if so, that would be a likely candidate.

dots do not break the mirrors in that mechanic, but direct dmg does break the mirrors

it can be a 1 shot if you break the mirrors really fast and get bulleted by 6+ mirror shards at the same time if you dont block or dodge

that mechanic is not technically dmg reflection, dealing direct dmg to the mirrors breaks off mirror shards that then shoot at you, if you break the mirrors entirely, it drops 4 mirror shards at once, which can easily kill DPS builds (the dmg the mirror shards do is scaled by the arc number)

I would guess the Seeking Sphere got set off instead of being interrupted by Malkhest. When it goes off (which is rare), it usually one-shots me. Happens maybe 1 time in 20.

It's a one hit on Arc 2. It has not happened on Arc 1.

Also, I'm not a Werewolf but had the Werewolf Behemoth transformation for that one fight.

Well I am running into roadblocks even getting to Tho'at 2 yesterday and today. Yesterday was Lady Thorn, today was the Lightning dragon in Arc 2, Cycle 4, Stage 3 who took all but one of my remaining threads, followed by a Marauder.

If you have seen my thread about those dragons you know what a problem they have been for me. But today I died to him once then got him the second try, using some tips other players gave in my thread about those dragons! But that left me with 1 thread as I headed into Arc 2, Cycle 5, Stage 1. And a Marauder showed up and that was that.

I promise I will get there and get a screenshot of what this one hit is.

Sounds like maybe the slimes aren’t being targeted. If you don’t take out the slimes you get hit hard with a ranged attack.

I never made the slimes a priority before and this never happened. Not until recently. But I'll maybe run this again later and hope for better luck. If not I'll try again tomorrow. I'm not giving up.

Ok so I figured it out but am even more confused now.

Piercing Gaze is what has been killing me like @G1Countdown suspected. But what gets me is I never paid much attention to the small shards on Tho'at 2 on my main group content character (Sorcerer) and was never one shot. And I ran 2 Arcs on her many times. It wasn't until my newer Warden kept getting one shot that I took my Sorcerer there to see what was up and it did it to her now, too.

So what I don't understand is if it never one shot my Sorcerer before with her playing the same way she always has, then why is it now? Did something change with the fight?

Have you changed any of her skills out? If those mobs aren't dying to your aoe then they'll ramp up their damage and eventually one shot you. If they were dying to your aoe before then you wouldn't need to prioritize them.

I have changed her skills a couple of times in the past couple of months. First I subclassed her but nothing changed in her Tho'at fights. But then when Class Mastery was introduced I did change back to a pure class build and hadn't run the IA after the change until the one hits started on my Warden. But both her builds used an AOE.
