Why do we have character-bound items?

I just got 20 character bound crown fortifying meals through Golden Pursuits. Was that really necessary? I can't even bank them. Is there a reason for character-bound items?

I have no idea why items from golden pursuits are character bound.

Ones from level up rewards are character bound to stop players farming them for use on other characters, mainly the crown store ones like respec scrolls. I think a few other items are character bound for the same reason, so you can't keep making characters to farm a supply. But that doesn't make sense for golden pursuit rewards, which are only available once per account anyway.

Tbh I can't see why it should matter if you farm something for your other characters, but thanks for your response.

I'm guessing that it was a mistake. The account-bound and character-bound versions have the same name and icon but different item IDs, and my guess is that whoever picked the rewards picked the wrong one by accident.

I'm guessing a mistake too. The character I earned it on has no use for them. Tried unsuccessfully to pass it to my tank (who does use them). Destroyed them. Oh well.

Thanks for your responses. Good to see it's not the start of a new trend towards more character-bound items; I really dislike the inconvenience of not being able to bank them.

Another vote for a mistake here. But it doesn't take away from the fact that the my main has a reward that he wont use (as his usual food is better in every way), bank, transfer to another character or sell. Especially because the food and drink are the only character bound rewards in the Golden Pursuit.

Wait, what? I didn't even check yesterday because I assumed that of course they are account bound, not character bound.

I guess I have to do the BG one on my only character that uses refreshing drinks.

You can do the BG on any character, but collect the GP reward on the character that you want it bound to.

You can complete the endeavours on any of your characters; you just need to claim the specific rewards on ones that can use them.

The only downside is that, until you claim them, you're stuck with the "You have a rewards to unlock" message across the bottom portion of your screen. That really should have a timeout on it.

You can press X on your keyboard to (temporarily) dismiss that message. It'll come back after you encounter a load screen, though.

(Or... people could just destroy it. Base-game purple food and drinks are so trivially cheap to craft that I'm surprised that people even care about the Crown versions.)

Doesn't work on console. I figured out if I pressed the button to go into the GP rewards window I could then just cancel that. Kind of annoying though when the message pops while you're in the middle of combat in a group dungeon...

I'm not sure what the dismiss button is on gamepad mode (or if there even is one). The problem with the dismiss button is that there's no text telling the user that it even exists. (Though, to be fair, adding a "press X to dismiss" would make it take up even more of the screen space.)

That having been said, these messages should be hidden during combat. They will not appear if you are in combat, and if you enter combat, they should disappear. It will appear after you exit combat. If it is on your screen during combat, then that's a bug. (It's possible that an addon might be interfering with the hide-during-combat mechanism, which would make this an addon bug instead of an ESO bug, but either way, if it's on your screen during combat, that's not intended.)

I discovered the crown lethal poison reward is also character bound. At least all the xp scrolls are not character bound.

oof, ya I just noticed a few of them were character bound. That makes no sense, I thought the only character bound items were from early character progression rewards.

IMHO The only Bound items should be those currently gotten in group content that are bound for 2 hours so you can trade with group members. Anything else should be available for resale.

I just destroyed a stack of the Crown Fortifying Meals and a stack of Poisons because I could not put them in my bank where I keep those things. I only keep 4 items in my characters bags and at the end of the day I clear out everything I got as I played except for those 4 items. If I can't bank these they are useless to me.
