No and you shouldn't be. That is an odd position to have in an MMORPG.

You can always ignore someone you think is spamming, guild advertisement or not.

Nope, so long as they aren't spamming there's no issue. And no, advertising for your Guild in general is NOT in and of itself spamming. To quote what someone in the invite spam thread said, "not everything that gets said in chat has to be something you want to read".

There's no difference between someone posting an ad for their Guild while people are talking and when there are different conversations going on/someone starting a new one or asking a question. No chat is ever going to only ever focus on one conversation at a time, so I genuinely don't understand the argument of ads making it hard to follow conversations. It already CAN be hard. And in my experience at least, it's rare to have more than one Guild post their ads in quick succession in a manner that could realistically scroll chat in a disruptive way.

On PS/NA I see players posting guild recruitment ads in zone chat every day that I play. Most of them are short and don't bother me. I get more bothered by the players posting in multiple zones to buy or sell stuff, usually at worse prices then I see on the guild traders.

Guilds ask for raffles in zone chat? That's something I've never seen.

Not sure about other platforms, but PSNA gets a lot of "public auctions" held at out of the way wayshrines by several alliances of trader guilds. Part of their advertisement to "come to X wayshrine for public auction" is enticing folks about a public 50/50 raffle being held alongside said auction.

This does not happen on PCNA. Some guilds do have auctions but they are just for the guild at the guild hall or in their discord. And a lot of guilds have weekly raffles but once again they are held in discord just for the members.

The last thing I want is something like that invading PCNA. This is yet another reason I don't want crossplay. Our societies are just too different.

Sometimes it can be a bit annoying to be following some conversation in zone chat and a long ad breaks the flow, but that's a minor nuisance and no reason to ban ads. For some reason, though, some guilds post their ads twice and that should stop. I did see once, a long time ago, a recruiter apologizing for the repeat message.

I used to do recruitment in zone chat and found many cool people that way. It certainly works way better than our odd guild finder that doesn't make it very easy to actually find guilds...

I agree. With the trading guild I run, it is all self-sustained by the guild itself. Raffles happen via MOTD. Auctions are in guild text chat on a set day/time.

I don’t want crossplay for the simple fact that PC’s economy is so different/larger, it will wipe out console trading guilds’ ability to compete for traders. When PC trading guilds complain of losing 50 million gold bids, uh, yeeeeeah, we are not built the same. At all.

Guild auctions, for the most part, are kept in house on PSNA too. It's not like random guild auctions randomly pop in public chat channels. PSNA does have a rather social community though, that likes to occasionally organize multi-guild/public events (including auctions) for all players to participate in. The events are typically only lightly advertised, after that it's spread mostly by word of mouth in non public channels.

These events are generally very well received, and participation positive. Perhaps the PSNA playerbase is more accepting of community driven events. Though I can't say I've ever noticed a lack of community PC events posted to reddit. So I know it still happens there too. <shrug> I enjoy them. I see it as an overall positive.

No, because the guild recruiting system is pretty bad. You can't even search for guilds by name and what shows up in the guild finder is completely RNG. Not to mention guilds putting themselves into "roleplay" category for fun that clearly aren't, and a lot of the ones remaining are dead and no real way to tell. I have tried refreshing the Roleplay section for a guild I know is listed and active and sometimes it doesn't even show up after refreshing 15 times.

Zone chat as long as it's not spammed every few seconds is fine. It's the only reliable way in-game to know what guilds are still active.

As someone who does guild recruitment messages for 2 guilds on PSNA, I work hard to make them funny and short. You know how difficult that is lol. Especially since I'm an officer in a social guild and do some recruitment for my raiding guild less frequently. So they gotta be different. I also try to only do a couple passes a day. I may only play for a couple hours and I'm not spending all my time doing that. So West Weald, High Isle, Morrowind, W. Skyrim, Summerset. Something like that.
The key is to make it short and tell them to whisper for more info.

You know what works better than messages though? Grab a guildie, start hopping in que for vet randoms, help people out and leave the guild tag. Or grab some heavy hitters, make a trial in group finder and get people a vet or hard mode clear then leave your guild recruitment tag. No message needed.

Edit to add. You really want there to be guilds recruiting. If there's nothing happening in chat and no guilds recruiting, we're in a bad place.

They usually are an intrusive wall of text that pushes up questions or regular conversations. Especially because when someone posts a guild recruiting message, usually at least 1 or 2 people copy and post theirs too, effectively spamming up the chat.

I find personal invitations by people you actually meet and play with to be more authentic and worthy of response. For guilds growing, there is a guild finder for all that the long description drivel.

I could've worded my original post better.

My point is that guild communication has to rely on "spamming" people to coordinate a lot of their functions. My overall experience is that recruitment takes up a lot real estate in zone chat, and raffles take up a lot of real estate in guild chat. Their messaging creates situations where other conversations get drowned out or interrupted. If people are asking for help or I'm trying to read quest texts or simply other messages, that gets interrupted. I've left a few guilds because it just gets to be too much.

Recruitment is the easier problem to solve. An auto-decline would be the best for all parties, IMO. I wouldn't mind seeing recruitment removed from zone chat entirely, contained solely to the Guild Finder screens.

Community events are a double-edged sword. On one hand, they're great for community building. OTOH, if I'm not a part of whatever jubilee is dominating my chats, my needs are getting lost in the shuffle. Ultimately, I'm not advocating for ZOS to do anything about raffles or other community events, just more of a commiseration thing than anything else.

I often check out recruitment in zone text chat so it doesn’t bother me. Several of my guilds have no one online anymore.

I haven’t seen it in a while, but in the past there have been very vocal players on my server who were basically offended when anything was posted in zone chat, like they felt it was their own personal chat or something. It’s a public channel.
