I'm not in favor of cross play.

PC players do not use voice chat for pug groups. I've never seen a group finder listing mentioning voice for anything, not even trials. Organized groups like our guild's trial groups use discord, but not pugs.
My guilds require discord or get kicked in the group finder listings. A few don't read or refuse and get replaced.

I would hate any type of voice chat on PC that was not entirely optional!!
I've been around a long time and I've seen the utter rubbish that can go off in Zone Chat(typed ofc) enough already.
There's very few things that I would consider "game breaking" for me personally but this would be definitely be one!!
As long as it's a toggle or has settings that can be turned off, then fine but I refuse to listen to other people's noise!

Be that as it may, many PC players do want crossplay. There is a reasonable expectation that any player who wants crossplay to come about, needs to accept that cross platform communication is a must. And that's what this thread is all about.. Voice Chat with Crossplay.
I'm not in favor of crossplay myself. No game has ever gone crossplay where consoles don't get the short end of the stick. But if it's going to happen, it has to be done right.

ESO Voice chat that we have on Playstation and Xbox is completely optional. as has been mentioned multiple times in this thread.

Why should console's way of communicating take preference over PC's? Especially since PC appears to have a higher population.

Nobody's insinuating it would. But if PC player and Console players are to communicate with any reasonable efficiency, there needs to be some method in place to allow that to happen. Console players will be able to use a keyboard should the situation call for one and the player actually has one on hand. The difference is that console players aren't asking PC players to utilize a 3rd party solution to voice chat when that method of communication is called for.

From what I have read it appears that crossplay would benefit console players more than PC because they have lower populations. If crossplay is more for their benefit then they are the ones that should adapt to how we have been doing things on PC for 12 years now, not the other way around.
DenverRalphy wrote: »I'm not going to debate the merits of crossplay in this thread because it's outside the scope of this thread's topic. I'm 100% against it anyway, so I'm not arguing in favor of it.
But again.. if it's going to be done, it has to be done right. It's as simple as that.

This one would also suggest for folks that do not have a pc to run discord on, they can use discord on their phone, at least until all the other bug fixes, gameplay and QOL improvements, and content expansions for ESO have been implemented.
That is like saying we don't need zone chat. It is filled with weird and often toxic people. We would need a less limited ignore/mute filter. I turned off zone chat, voice would need the same option. I minimize the whole chat window actually since I don't use my keyboard most of the time. Sadly push to talk isn't mandatory but it still works in discord. I guess randoms just won't get to communicate.

Well that is perfectly fine then ofc we all know ZoS has a track record of different implementation over the different platforms and I feel it is important they are aware that certain restrictions should be available.

Lord knows I’m not joining a random guild Discord just to run a trial.

This is such an unnecessary "Us vs Them" take. I am a PC player since launch but I started playing on Xbox a few years ago to play with friends I made from Stadia. I don't need crossplay but I think if it comes about then it should done so that all player - regardless of their original platform - have the best experience possible, including native voice chat. I'll say another thing, playing on Xbox has given me serious respect for ESO console players - they have been the redheaded step child dealing with challenges I took for granted on PC.

You run many dungeons? I’ve queued into at least 5 Veteran Randoms on Xbox NA in the last week where people were in Voice Chat trying to get achievements.

If I recall right, when ESO first time being announced the release date was 2013, but it postponed to 2014 because devs decided to release the game for consoles in addition to PC. It is one of the biggest desicion devs give that I made to quit ESO,. I simply didn"t want to share a game with teens. No adult content aka no blood no sexual content aka pegi 3 instead of pegi 18.
I have been silent in the process of combining consoles with PC, but it looks like forums are dominated by console players who have problems with population. I just want to give my two cent that not only I am against to an addition to a client chat tool I am also against to combine servers.
The devs really need to think through if they really want to lose all their long term adult customers who made the most purcheses to vocal minority of console players who are asking for combinig servers and adding a security breach Voice Chat to PC.
I as a paying customer do NOT want servers to be merge with consoles, quantity is never better than quality! I will make a silly anectode here, superman, James Bond or indiana Jones were for older generations, you will never make the same impact for the new generations. Elder Scroll was for older gamers do not try to mix both. If you get greedy to make a game for both, you will lose either side. Let everyone play on their servers if you merge them outcome will be less than you have anticipated.
DenverRalphy wrote: »spartaxoxo wrote: »Console voice chat is through Microsoft (Xbox) and Sony (PS)
This part is not true. ZOS already had a voice chat that THEY built and have always monitored in the game. The reason in the past that they never put it on PC is because PC already had third party solutions. They wouldn't need to build anything from scratch. They already have the feature and could have implemented it on PC if they had so chosen to do so but they didn't think the extra effort was worth it at the time given PC's other options.
ETADenverRalphy wrote: »Just keep using Discord or whatever other solution you're using. The in game VC solution is mediocre at best on a good day. Most ESO console players I know prefer using their respective native console solution because ESO's solution is.. not great.
Console's chat is something I use a lot for PUGs and I find it's generally preferred for those too. Guild groups usually PSN chat. At least in my experience.
I think pugs using in-game VC as often as they do is only because it's less inconvenient to use in lieu of sending out VC invites to groups/parties. If console players could easily copy/paste/click their respective console VC invites to/from in-game text chat directly to PSN/Xbox/Discord/TeamsSpeak/etc.. like PC players can, far fewer pug console players would be using in-game VC.
