Fun fact: originally, you could dodge mudballs.
This had the side effect of allowing the throwing and subsequent dodging to mudballs to generate ultimate outside of combat, which is why they were changed to be undodgeable.
Currently, the only way to avoid a mudball hit is to outrange it while it is in flight. This is not that uncommon when I'm trying to hit a target that is already in the process of moving away from me.
Since you don't know until you've been hit, how would you do that?

We can see players do a wind up animation when they're about to launch the projectile, and we can see the projectile heading toward us. I'm not asking for an auto dodge — if we fail to dodge, we should still get hit. I just think it would be fun to show off how we're capable of dodging their attacks.

I know it plays an animation, but I have never once seen someone wind up to throw it at me. I'm not always on the lookout.
Unless you mean the events where everyone is throwing them around.

Emotes cannot affect another character.
Mudballs, Snowballs, and Crows are Mementos, the Jester Pies are not even collectibles.
so not being able to use those items would be fine as i only really use Mudballs during the New Life Festival quest against NPCs.
*creates account on PCNA just to throw mudballs at Erickson ... tee hee*
