The Dancing Personality is the worst

The Dancing Personality is the worst and I cringe every time I see it. It's bad enough that we have to deal with the constant flapping of the Sorcerer's and other flying pets in town but now we also have other players constantly swaying back and forth too. Please, I beg you, give us a toggle to not have to see other players effects.

It's exceedingly goofy and distracting for the setting, outside specific RP situations. It's attention grabbing for all the wrong reasons but I guess that's why some people use it.

Sometimes less is more, and it's not just this personality. I could do without the random sobs from Melancholy and also the random noises like Angry and I think Heroic makes too. It's too much and they would have been better without them.

Agreed, the dancing all the time is a bit ridiculous.

Talk to this quest giver (and dance).
Use a crafting table (and dance).
Talk to a banker/merchant (and dance).

Should have been an emote, oh wait, we already have those.

Maybe if it randomly did a different dance each time it wouldn't be so bad.

It should have just given them maybe a dancer's posture, and then new dance emotes to use from it.

It's the reason I didn't get it. I love the actual dance when you do /dance but the resting animation is god awful.

I agree. And the only time my female character has been sexually harassed in the game was when another player with this personality deliberately walked up to the character while she was standing still in a town, stood right next to her and...won't continue as I don't want to violate the TOS. That aside, the resting animation for that personality just looks dumb.

No, didn't report it because it's pixels and it was easy to just walk away. But yeah, cringe.

Funny - to me, the standing swaying motion reminds me of someone standing in line like at a club waiting to use the restroom.. I crack up every time is see it..

Every time I see it I wonder how it doesn't drive the player using it nuts.

This reminds me of a friend I had that used to always have 3 orbs spinning around his character. I finally had to tell him that he needed to turn that effect off if we were running a dungeon or other content together because I just couldn't take it any more. Turns out they were part of a healing set (he never healed group content, he just liked to heal players he ran into in delves) and he used them to help him see (they lit up the area around him) because he had installed an addon that made everything very dark, especially inside areas like dungeons. I asked why and he said he thought it would be cool. He ended up deleting the addon and was surprised how much better his game looked. I then helped him with a damage build and he enjoys combat a lot more now.

But it makes me wonder how others can play without being annoyed by their character constantly moving.

We need personality idles to alternate with the default vanilla idles to not drive us nuts. Even with something like the Telvanni magister personality, which I enjoy, I eventually stopped using it because it starts being annoying when you cross your arms every single time you stop moving for even a split second.

So if we could have alternating vanilla and custom personality idles, we'd see the dancers' swaying a little less on average. Also, it'd be more realistic imo.

The idle looks less like dancing and more like someone tweaking out imo. I wanted to get it until I saw the constant movement.

I don't disagree on that personality. . . but I confess I find the summoning of neon cartoon exploding mounts much more obtrusive. I really wish I could set a toggle so all other players appeared to be riding a simple sorrel horse.

Sadly this is the case - they won't get people to spend as much on these things if no one else can see them in an MMO.

But I do hope they use this feedback to stop creating such obvious eyesores - especially ones of infinite duration and tears us out of the setting.

    [snip]

Not to mention, the amount of people even using this personality is like 0.01%. It was overused at the time it came out, but since then I saw it exactly once on PC EU and it was a hilarious gummy bear themed character. And it's literally just this personality, outside of that I couldn't even tell you what anyone is using or wearing, because 99% of players are completely unmemorable. Mounts and pets also don't prevent you from interacting with anything they are standing in front of, [snip]

that complaint just sounds like nothing more than "I'm the main character and everyone should suit how I want my world to look like".

Exactly the opposite, because people who just have immersive realistic characters are bothering exactly no one, while the ridiculous skins, mount animations and sound effects are forced upon everyone around you. So yes if you use a harrowcringe mount and constantly summon it in crowded areas you are forcing your experience upon others more than the other way around.
I also hope we get an option to hide effects from other players in the future, that way the kids who think it looks cool can enjoy their cartoon carnaval while the adults can play an immersive game.

Alakeyfox said everything I think when I see some demands to remove fun and bright colors from this game.

People who like flashy colorful things don't create threads complaining about bland-looking characters surrounding them.
For example, when I see character who looks "boring" and rides some ordinary horse, I feel sadness and think that the player must be poor and can't afford good cosmetics... But I accept this as part of MMO world, and I don't tell others how they should dress their characters and which mounts they should use :)
I remember many years ago, I spent my crowns on nice mounts while I had no Banker or Merchant yet - then I saw other player who had basic armor and simply Brown horse, but who also had Banker and Merchant assistants. The feeling I got from that encounter was a mix of "such a boring-looking character" and "oh my, he is wiser with his crowns than me" :D

As for the Dancer personality, I want the designer(s) who created it to read this please: it's one of the best cosmetic items in the game so far! <3 I said that when it was released, and I want to repeat it here. Moves are great, and the ability to dance with weapons is priceless!

"Spontaneous screenshot, while I am fabulous!" :D

    GcsHSCZ.jpeg

It breathed life in some of my characters (3 of them are still dancing even nowadays), inspired me to do Mages Guild quest line again, drove me to purchase certain other items and offers some awesome screenshots

    https://youtu.be/JwuhaRQzN68

There is only one little "problem": please, add extra emotes to this personality, so that some cool idle animations of it can be accessed any time (not just randomly).

This video was for my personal enjoyment, but today I've uploaded it to show extra appreciation to this personality. Many months ago, I came to take a skyshard... and ended up spending a good hour just slowly walking in the water and cracking up at idles. Not a single emote was used, just pure awesomeness of Dancer moves B)Faint move is just something else, and I have some funny/spicy screenshots with it when it's done randomly as part of idles.

    https://youtu.be/eicrWprNofU

This personality alone delivers as much fun as a whole DLC, in my opinion.

I mean, bland or quiet things don't intrude on our senses the way loud or bright things do. It's the reason why some people may be happy to sit next to a quiet airplane seatmate, but perhaps not to a crying baby (though I'm ok with crying babies, they can't help it obv).

Also, OP wasn't telling people how to dress/act, she was asking for a toggle not to see effects. It would have zero impact on other players.

I understand people willing to switch off bright flashy things (and if one day such feachure would appear, I may use it), I can understand problem with twilight, because it blocks view, but personality? What's next? Costumes and outfits, as they can be colored bright and look stupid? Let use armor as it was... wait, there is that strange red color!
Oh, I know, I know! Give us feature to see everyone naked! Everybody will be happy. Iliac Bay Online, he-he.

I like "boring" characters. None of my characters wears anything extremely flashy, few have something glowing. With 94 mounts (including 14 apex) on main character I use Legion Zero Destrier, which looks like horse in armor.
I do think this personality can be improved (though I like it and use on one character it perfectly fit both appearance and, ummm, personality), but switching off personalities sounds ridiculous for me. They do not prevent anybody from doing anything (like flashy things and twilight wings), and they are important part of characters image. Do you want everybody to see your characters with half appearance details being some random stuff? That would look so.

I set up my own characters the way I want them to look and each one is unique. I'm glad zos offers us a variety of options. I think the dancer personality is funny. There are other personalities I dislike, so I don't use them, but I'm glad zos has offered them to people because we all have different tastes.

I don't care what others think of my characters and I definitely don't concern myself with what other people are doing with theirs. Sometimes I see others whose characters look funny or pretty or creative, and I say to myself wow that's great.
Sometimes I see others whose characters look silly or gaudy or boring, and I say to myself wow that sucks.

And then I go about my life because we can't control other people.

Anyway, maybe they'll provide some settings to tone down flashy effects that bother people. I think it's unlikely that we'll ever see settings to completely disable other players' cosmetic choices.
