ESO Event Design, Rewarding Players or Burning Them Out?

I really don't see what the problem is. The fact that the rewards are so utterly abysmal is a good thing; it means that at most, you just get the three gold boxes a day, then ignore them and go do something else.

What if you wanted one of the rare drops, like the Caltrops style? If we were grinding for it at pre-2024 levels, most of us would be very close to getting it by now. But currently it seems that you practically have to make ESO your full-time job to get collectibles, which is not fun at all.

I'm not partaking in this lunacy of course, but I think it's a terrible move to make collectibles even harder to get than ever before, at a time when there are more games to play and less free time than the 2020-2022 era.

I hate it, but I’ll keep playing the rest of the game
To add to those mentioning Coldharbour Surreal Estate… I remain completely gobsmacked that the “reward of equivalent value” for those who PAID CROWNS to already own that property had the chance to instead receive… a gold treasure you could sell to a merchant for 10,000 gold.

That house’s equivalent is 10k gold to you? Truly? If that’s the case, I’d love to see Crown Store items adjusted down to such an in-game gold value…

    Vote: What Grind?

I have 1 toon. I've been doing 3 gold boxes per day for phase 2. I have 12/25 Writhing Boned and missing 4 style pages. (10 mins a day ish). If I did more boxes I'd have more, but I'm very disappointed P2 is P1 re-labelled. It means I'm not really engaged.

All MMOs have grind. ESO is much better than most. I quit playing World of Grindcraft for a reason. To call the event a grind is imo somewhat unfair. On one hand it's quite grindy compared to other ESO content, which has seen many great steps over the years to reduce the grind. The knocked down achievement amounts, gave us the stickerbook and transmutes, as well as curated coffers.

Gone are the days of having to run a dungeon 500 times to get the weapon WITH the trait you wanted or forking over 1m gold to a group member because they got the drop. Honestly, if people are feeling the event is a hard grind, then that is only because ZOS have done such a good job making the rest of the game less of a grind.

I still have nightmares about a rep grind in WoW. 16,000+ mob kills to reach max rep. Only about 12 mobs in one small area. Open world PvP server. Now that's a grind.

It’s kind of fun, at least it breaks up the routine

Shards drop from blue boxes too, so they are worth farming.

I mean, everything can drop form blue. But at a rate that is so much lower than gold. And since it takes the same amount of time to get a blue as it does to get a gold, it means that the reward-for-time drops off a cliff with blues.

There was another thread, where I said that it was worth rerolling your first crafting quest to make sure that you get a profession from which you were still missing stuff. And someone in that thread said that you can get the plans from blues and that in fact, almost all of her plans came from blues.

But there was a catch: she was farming those blues on every character, so we're talking about over a hundred blues per day, whereas I was just getting my one gold. And yes, she's completed all the plans faster than me that way, but I've made good progress with just the gold boxes, and with how much longer the event has to go, I've no doubt that it will be completed before the end.

I'm not saying that blues are of zero value. But I'm saying that the value-to-time-spent ratio falls off a huge cliff with blues. And, most importantly, if you are patient, you will probably get everything from just golds. Sure, it'll take more time, but in case people haven't noticed, this is a long event. It's a marathon, not a sprint: pace yourself.

What I don't get are the people who choose to farm these low-value blues and then complain about the burn out, such as the OP of this thread. Just choose to get only golds. You'll still complete everything before the event ends, except this way, you're not driving yourself mad in the process.

I guess that depends on how a player is farming: if only on one character then the blue boxes are worth it, but if farming on multiple characters and accounts then the gold ones are enough to get all rewards, and getting the blue ones too only guarantees a burn out.

It's becoming a chore to me. Max the craft dailies, maybe the camp and soul ones and just one gathering one. I won't always max out the camp/soul ones but might on one character.
