Yeah, thinking the same thing! Been soooo long I cannot remember the old animation, so I voted for the new animation. Try and move on people. Not worth the ulcer.

    If you don't care, don't vote 🤷

The new model and animation is bad.
Weird staff, weird sweeping motion, clumsy pop out and in of whichever weapon you are holding when you cast it.
    It is bad.

Either old style or yet a new true spear model and ALL spear skills should use the same model!

New one is much easier to see when stacked in a trial.

A miss-communication on my part. I do care as I only play one character and he is a Templar. And I do like the new animation. Found an old animation video and yeah, the new one is better. I am mystified that people are really upset at the new animation, that's all.

I don't understand what people hate about the new animation. But I do wonder what prompted the change.

The old one was animated more like a spear. The new one has that weirdo slap at the end.

I think everyone can agree the effect on the new one is better, but the model and animation definitely are not.

I'll assume most people voting on the new one are only judging by the effect alone, the model on the old one wasn't good either, sure, but at least it wasn't a vampire themed staff, which is completely immersion breaking as we're talking about Templars, pretty much a total opposite thematic.

The new animation isn't terrible either, but not as good as the old one, and looks especially weird when you're weaving, as it stays in your hand when you light attack.
@MorvanClaude on PC/NA, don't try to trap me with lore subjects, it will work

Changes to good old Jabs and Flurry animations would actually make me stop playing if I only had Templar character :'(
I have characters of all classes to keep me entertained for now, but my two Templars barely see any gameplay since those changes.
Magicka Templar sometimes does healing, and I don't use Jabs on her.
Stamina Templar used to be my favorite character for PvP and group PvE. Nowadays she only sometimes does Battlegrounds, and most of time there she spends in werewolf form just so I don't need to see awful new Biting Jabs animation :/
I stopped using Flurry at all since I saw new animation on live. However, recently I tried a certain PvP build for my Stamsorc which uses Flurry as spammable - and while the build is nice, it feels so bad to observe the silly animation, that I barely do PvP on him :|

Also, old Jabs not only looked awesome with ray of light - it had powerful vocalization to accompany it:

Old Flurry felt powerful and just awesome with nice vocalization feedback as well:

How I loved this character in action... I hope that maybe one day I can experience it all again <3

I felt the jabs change more because I had a stamplar in Cyrodiil at the time. I have to admit that Flurry is at least equally bad or worse. I only know because I leveled up a character years ago and picked that skill. It looks and sounds truly awful.

I did move on, literally from the game. This was update 35 (or right around there) so there was a whole lot rolled in to that update that was absolutely deflating. It was a catalyst for me.

The change to Jabs was pretty bad, the response from ZoS was even worse. They ask for feedback, get overwhelming negative feedback about a relatively simple item to change back or improve but they did nothing. And I mean nothing, No single response in the massive thread at the time and just went ahead with the change anyway. To this day you will not find a single response to the idea behind the change to Jabs anywhere on these forums.
I don't understand what people hate about the new animation. But I do wonder what prompted the change.

It has been explained to death at this point, but to reiterate:

    1. Reused Nighthollow Stave as the new Spear. Why not just update the old glowing spear with more details?
    2. The stabbing animation is not how Spears are used, so it looks wrong and silly.

What prompted the change was they wanted to reduce the number of hits from four to three, and have the animation be less that 1 second to better weave with Light Attacks. These are fine goals. They just botched it. Then botched the response. Then ignored it for 3 years. An Iconic spammable that people really liked.

This is the big problem here.

The “Jabs change” was actually three issues in one: the timing change, the animation change, and the model change.

Now the timing change was a good thing. New Jabs, with the shorter channel time, is a lot easier to weave. That is the main thing ZOS was targeting and it is a good thing.

The animation change needed to happen, but instead of just keeping the animation similar and dropping one poke, they decided to do a full remodel on in so it’s a lot more slashy and less pokey. See also the issue with Flurry, which had the same thing. Why did the team change the animation so drastically instead of just remaking one that looked like the old one? Obviously they had to remake the animation for that, but they could have made one that still used the pokes and the same finisher as before. It didn’t need to make the movement totally different.

The model chance did not need to happen. The animation could use literally anything as a prop, so why change the one it had? Probably because it was “ugly and low poly,” and that’s all the thought process behind it… but that had a reason to look like that (because it was a spear of light, not necessarily a defined object), and it matched with the rest of the kit.

So yeah, it really ended up looking careless. They thought of the new look in a bubble - they thought the old model was low poly and needed a redo, but they couldn’t be bothered to make a unique thing or update the other Templar skill looks. They needed a new animation, but instead of choreographing something that resembled the old one, they just told an animator “yeah, make it hit three times glhf.”

And I will sat that this careless attitude is felt in a lot of places through the game. Sure, it’s easy to just take the easy way out… but this whole year has been one careless decision after another and the population is showing the effects of that.
