    ive got

4 templars (pvp main, trial healer, an IA build and a sneak theif)
    1 warden (trial healer)
2 nightblades (mag and stam dps)
2 arcs (trial dd and trial healer)
1 necro (buff dps for trial group)
2 sorcs (heavy attack dummy and pet build solo)
1 dk (buff dps for trial group)

there were created was in the days before armour stations - but theyre all crafters anyway - so useful for writs when im not doing a specific thing and i dont have to load them up with multiple armours. they just have what they need

I currently have 1 of each class but 2 Dragonknights because one is my crafter so he doesn't fight much. I've previously had doubles of other classes and probably will again, when I have reasons for more characters.

All my characters have their own 'theme', personality and backstory which determines who they are and what they do (including which class skills they use) so even if they're the same class they play differently and will do different things.

I make characters including their classes based on whatever RP idea I have. I do have multiple characters of the same classes.

I have the highest amount of nightblades (3) and sorcerers (2). They're coincidentally my favorite classes along with warden, but I only have one warden so far, who RP wise isn't a combat oriented person, but I have her kitted as an ice mage and healer.

I'm not sure which answer to choose.

I have one of each class except Warden (I can't handle the huge bear), but 2 Sorcerers. I made the second Sorcerer at a friend's urging to be a purely PvP character, but not long after I got her set up he quit playing, so I made her my PvP and main group content character. She uses the banekin and my other doesn't use any pets.

I voted multiple because I have more than one warden.

I play my main (warden) 99.9% of the time. I also have:

3 other wardens - my favourite class by far
1 templar - my very first character
1 nightblade - don't like the class but got her to 50 so I use her for events when it makes sense
1 sorcerer - not thrilled with the class but kept her around for events

I've tried the other classes and they just don't do it for me.

Yes. I have 3 templars. It was 4, but I deleted a mag plar that I was making for mag DPS when I converted my PVP stamplar (an Orc) to a dark elf. Having 2 dark elf templars was redundant.

I also have 2 nightblades, 2 necros, and 2 sorcs.

I have multiple characters of the same class because they're optimized to do different things. Different races and different builds to fit different roles.

My PVE main healer is a Nord Templar and I primarily use him for dungeons and trials and crafting. I have an argonian templar that I use for Off-Tanking and tanking in 1T/3DD format. My third templar is a dark elf templar that I use for PVP and for DPS.

I have a Khajit nightblade that I use for PVP/Ganking. My other NB is a Breton healer (made before subclassing).

I have a dark elf necro I made for DPS - Used to be an 80k DPS necro back when the DPS ceiling wasn't so high that 80k was pedestrian, and it was great in trials. My other necro is a nord block tank that I was trying to learn to pull with.

One of my sorcs is a high-elf Heavy Attack Build, that I use for IA, DPS, farming, and doing overworld stuff with. My other sorc is a nord werewolf and I use him for werewolf kite tanking, sorc block tanking, and playing around in IC.

At least 2 of every class for a Stam and Mag setup for PVP (Most of this was done pre hybridization)

But I also have an extra Sorc because at one point I had two different approaches to mag sorc PVP and it was easier to use my main for the straightforward approach (while also having it PVE ready) and using the other for experiments.

An extra Nightblade because I wanted a PVE focused stamblade.

An extra Templar as a healer for PVE

An extra DK as a tank for PVE

An extra Warden because of experimenting

Right now, all EP, but I need to do a few alliance swaps to get the PVP related achievements at some point.

Once upon a time we needed new toons of the same class to fill different roles. For instance, a DK for DPS and a DK for tanking. Or a templar for dps, and another for healing. Or one warden for PvP DPS and another Warden for PvP heals, etc.

Now with armory stations and add ons can swap these roles back and forth much easier, but a lot of us just still use our old dedicated toons.

I usually just pick a class that fits the idea of the character. My Dunmer slaver for example had to be DK for the Whip, while my Dragon-themed Warrior type character had to be DK for the Fiery Breath. I try to avoid large overlaps to keep the gameplay different. It has all been shuffled around a bit with subclassing, but the principle is the same.

Because you might want to min/max. I'm a healer main so I have a lot of Bretons but sometimes I dps so High Elf or other races are sometimes chosen. And back before the armory sometimes I'd have different toons for different activities, dungeons vs overland vs PVP etc.

Yes, originally because Mag and Stam characters were built completely differently before hybridization.

And now, because it's because those characters already existed and because it's easier to have specific builds for specific characters rather than having to futz with tons of Armory slots or moving gear from character to character.

It definitely makes it easier to do theme builds.

      This.

Now it's more about inventory management...

      Yes I do.

I have multiple Templars, Nightblades and Dragon Knights. Some of them were to fit particular roles, such as having Mag Vs. Stam versions of the class prior to the introduction of the armoury. However some are just because I am addicted to alts, and there's only so many classes.I want to have a max level character for each race, but I'm also addicted to levelling Dark Elves and Khajiit characters so haven't gotten around to it yet.

Originally I made two characters from each class to have a magicka and a stamina variant.
The only exception was Dragonknight because I always wanted to have a "proper" tank character and couldn't really decide if I should have an Argonian or a Nord one, so I created one of each, plus a Redguard character to try out a "bash build" that sounded like great fun to have. Unfortunately that kind of build was instantly and completely annihilated in the usual ZOS manner before I had even leveled that Redguard to 50 and could even do a significant amount of (main) questing with the character.
The only other class I have more than two of is a third Sorcerer (stamina) because this sounded like the best basis for a werewolf character. Thanks to the armory it is now possible to have both curses saved in a build for the same character, but back then this had not been the case.

I have multiple Dragon Knights. They were always my favorite class and I liked to have several different races to choose from so that I could perform different roles as well as utilize different builds and playstyles in PvP.

Hybridization made a couple of them feel a bit redundant but multiclassing has basically killed them all. All of the active skills have better counterparts in other class skill lines or scribing. And the passives, which are usually where the distinction comes from, have been watered down so much that I can't ever justify any of the DK skill lines when compared to the raw power available elsewhere. Maybe someday a patch will make them relevant again so I can't bring myself to delete them since they are all fully leveled and ready to go.

I don't play as much as I used to. Too many things have been added that are seemingly necessary that I won't do.

My choice but at age 74 I am stubborn. No companions, no leads from antiquities, no dungeons or trials and nothing where I have to play in a group.

Unfortunately after 11 years playing I have come to play only solo or in PVP as I have no tolerance for idiots.

Forgot to add I hate subclassing, so that was the proverbial straw.

I had so many characters and most of them are useless now due to QOL changes, I wish I could merge them or something.

The main reason for me was the separation between Mag and Stam, and the inability to switch alliances or races in the past. At one point I had 5 different Nightblades. I had both Stam and Mag Nightblades on both blue and yellow, then 1 magblade on Red.

I also had multiples of other classes too. With alliance swapping, the armory, race change tokens, and account wide achievements, having 1 of each class is very manageable.

With subclassing I could easily get away with 1 or 2 characters total.
