As with everyone, I'm counting down the time to patch notes release. I want more details about how subclassing actually works- because I keep hearing different things.
In the reveal they said 'class progress will be account wide' and then I'm hearing that you will still have to level subclass skill lines from zero even if you've maxed them on an alt (which doesn't make any sense). Then I heard that if you maxed a class, but then deleted your character, that doesn't count. Then I heard you have to somehow 'unlock' and progress class skills that you haven't progressed on another character. It's all very confusing right now.

This is going to be a long one, folks. Just make sure to have a snack and beverage before sitting down to read them.
Imagine subclasses like an extra set of skill lines, but account wide. It's like if they added a new weapon or guild line, but these ones are shared.
EDIT: to further clarify, you aren't sharing your alts skill lines with other toons, you are accessing a unique set of swapable skill lines all your toons will have acccess to.

This is partially incorrect. I just watched the video posted above, and at 42:30 she says that there are TWO ways to get access to the skill lines. First, if you have alts that have maxed their class lines to 50, you gain access to them right away after completing the quest. If you don't, then you get access to what they're calling "subclass skill lines" which you can then level.
So yes, you ARE accessing skill lines of your alts if they've maxed their class skill lines to 50. If you do not have a specific class skill line maxed to 50 on a currently available character- then you will have to utilize their 'subclass skill line' method.

so the alt has to be level 50? Or can the alt be less than level 50 with a skill line maxed out at level 50?

... They also said somewhere in the video that if you don't have the skill lines unlocked yet and you have to level them, they will level at half the speed if the skill is not from your own class.
I am lucky since I made an alt of each class a few years ago and most are maxed out already. Maybe one or skill line I have to prep before June.

In addition to the skill lines taking longer to level through the subclass system, they will also cost twice as many skill points to use.

Yes, skills and passives will each cost two SP's on subclassed skill lines.
So this means 8 SP's for the passives in each subclassed skill line. Then each skill will also cost 4 SP's per skill- that's buying the skill and it's morph. I feel bad for new players who haven't been playing for years.
