Do you plan to Subclass or stay Pure?

I plan to use the Armory to make different builds on my main with different Subclassed skill lines.

I'll have one build dedicated to maximizing Werewolf PvE DPS, and it'll have Aedric Spear, Storm Calling, and Grave Lord. Each skill line will be from a different class.

I'll have another build for Werewolf PvP. I think at this point, I may use Restoring Light, Dawn's Wrath, and Daedric Summoning. I'll experiment with it, but having 2 Templar skill lines and 1 subclassed skill line sounds fine to me.

I'll have one build for solely Templar DPS, probably just for overland farming where I want to use Repentance, Biting Jabs, and Radiant Oppression, each of which reside in different Templar skill lines.

...then I'll figure out how I'll update my Infinite Archive build, as well as some of my other miscellaneous builds. It'd be fun to play around with skills from other classes without needing to swap characters.

The point is, as a player who mainly sticks to one character, I'll use Subclassing in different ways depending on the content I'm running.

Depends upon what gets released to live. Right now I'm using easy to play Arcanist alts and One Bar Oakensoul alts for all of my trials/dungeons/overland. If the 171K parse on PTS I saw (Grave Lord/Herald of the Tome/Assassination) ends up making it to live, then all my current DPS builds will be way under performing and probably unwanted for playing with others. I will need a new easy to play build that doesn't require 120 actions per minute (APM) and performs closer to the new top builds. Hopefully there will be a new easy to play build, otherwise ZOS may have designed me out of ESO.

That Arcanist setup is actually easier than the current, if that’s even possible. (Fewer apm). There are 2 skills that you slot and basically don’t use, siphon and relentless focus. So, those two along with two banners that you don’t have to touch. It’s all about the passives. But I’m sure some things will change. Also, exhausting fatecarver is basically unsustainable without parse food. So we’ll see what happens.

Thanks for this response! I play on PS/NA, so I can't try any builds until subclassing goes live.

I have at least one of every class. I plan to keep most of my characters pure, but for 2 of my 3 plars I will do some subclassing. I will probably also subclass with 1 or my 2 DKs.

I just chill in this game (farming resources, trading, housing, fishing when I'm tired). Fighting is rarely part of my activities so that any add related to fighting skills/classes usually don't attract me much. For example, I never started scribing... o:)

Therefore, realistically, I don't think that I will touch subclass either.

I completed the scribing line and inscribed a couple of skills. Essentially, I did not care for it. Also, changing the color of a skill also did not impress me much.

Subclassing really holds no interest for me as it is currently described.

    But time will tell.

Honestly, I have seen this change-for-the-sake-of-change happen in another game: World of Warcraft. Even though I was a Day One player of WoW, when I saw my favorite main class, Rogue, changed and gutted so that I hardly recognized it anymore, I simply quit the game.

Even though I do love this game and will have played for six years come June, I can see a point coming where I will be so disappointed in the changes without any substantial fixing of long-standing bugs that I will simply quit this game as well.

    Again, time will tell.

AFAICT there's basically no reason not to have Soldier of Apocrypha on my tank spec and Assassination on overland spec.

And that would apply to every class under all circumstances.

I plan on making a new character for subclassing and replaying old quests for nostalgia. Gonna wait for the dust to settle on PTS though, as I will need to make sure that the build I make.is viable for my purposes.

I have ideas for characters like my warden since I could swap in something that has a bit more damage potential since I never really like the animal companions line too much. Being able to swap in the nbs skill line for the on demand invisibility will help out with certain activities when I'm revisiting those areas on my new character I'm playing the game on. However I still can't find a reason to take my DK off of any of the skill lines since they all compliment each other very well and losing out of any of those abilities for another will feel weird.

Ideally I would engage with subclassing where it suits my characters thematically to do so.

Unfortunately we will all be forced to engage with it if we want to continue doing harder content, as all our pure characters will be significantly weaker once the patch goes live, so we will need to adopt the new meta unfortunately.

I do not look forward to how ridiculous my main will look with his mismatched, garishly clashing, entirely unsatisfactory meta power/animation combinations, but I play the game mostly for endgame activities, so its either that or never pull my own weight in a group again ever again. My friends might let me get away with it, but I wouldn't want them to be forced to pick up my slack so... Yeah.

Haven't decided yet. I'll experiment with an alt, if I like it I might use it on more characters, if I don't, I won't.

On my main Templar I will stay pure Templar. I've tried the PTS but I can't seem to give up any Templar options. Especially with the buffs coming to Templar.

HOWEVER on my Necro I will try out the "summoner". Daedric summoning is such a great skill tree for Necro. Both passives and actives.
Will also probably try to fuse my "Thunder Nord" and "Frost Nord" into one :)

It depends on whether subclassing will be advantageous or satisfy the criteria of the way I'd like to play on a given character/role. I suspect that for some cases, especially dps, that will be the case, while for others I won't have to.

As someone who likes BGs, I really don't see how it will be possible to remain even remotely competitive without subclassing. That said, I didn't vote in the poll because I might just move on to other games instead.

What changes are they making that will no longer support no pet builds? I have 2 Sorcerers, one of which uses the volatile familiar and the other no pets. Neither uses the flappy, nor will they.

I voted I will use it on some. Mainly my trials and dungeons dps toons and tank for same. People can say play how you want or make your own group but the reality for most people who want to clear content and not be raid leads, you kinda need to run what is gonna perform the best. I don't wanna let my team down or be carried so if there's a meta combo, looking at you arc/NB/necro, then that's what it is.

I still don't really know how I feel about subclassing. I'm am endgame player who cares about balance and power creep making content trivial. On the other hand tho I want people to have fun and people seem excited. I hope this doesn't end with extreme nerfs. I've been here since console launch and have seen Zos do a lot of halfbaked stuff so my confidence level at them reinventing the wheel for the entire way the game is played, is low. Fingers crossed.

I'm curious about this too,as I use just the familiar. I got rid of flappy when I scribed a burst heal from the soul grimoire. Not sure if I lose out on any passives etc.by using only 1 pet,but it works for me.

    From the https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/676209/pts-patch-notes-v11-0-0

    Sorcerer

    Daedric Summoning
General Skill Line: We’re removing the separation of a pet vs no pet build in this skill line now that sub-classing is here. Those who do not wish to interact with the pet gameplay can now replace this skill line as a whole. Many abilities in this skill line have been adjusted with this in mind.
Conjured Ward and morphs: Conjured Ward and Hardened Ward no longer heal the you if you do not have any pets active.
Regenerative Ward now heals you for ~5% of your Max Health or Max Magicka if you have a pet active.
Daedric Prey: This ability now increases the damage your Sorcerer pets deal to the target by 50%, instead of increasing the damage all of your pets deal to the target by 45%.
    [Developer Comment]

With subclassing here, we've had to adjust this ability to prevent it from becoming egregiously overpowered when paired with the maximum use case of pets. We've gone forward with a model that largely retains the power where it already lies, where it buffs Sorcerer's pets - but slightly limited it where it will no longer work with proc based pets or other class pets.

That's how I feel about my Warden main. I've been pretty much exclusively playing her for 5 years now. If they nerf/change skills and passives (to accommodate subclassing) in a way that makes playing her unviable or not fun, that would pretty much kill the game for me.

I'm actually really surprised that they would screw around this much with classes 11 years in. When I heard about subclassing on the livestream, I thought it would be interesting, but now I'm concerned that they'll gut pure classes in the process. I'm reading too many posts that say if you don't subclass, you'll be left behind.
