Waited until VR10 - PVP a complete disappointment

So, I tried PvP the first week the game was live and I had my butt handed to me. So I thought, back to the drawing board....I will level up and get all the skills I need maxed then come back when I was VR10. So last night was my first night back and I have to say I am completely disappointed. After watching all of the promo videos from Zenimax showing how "amazing" PvP was going to be, I was really excited.

So for the 3 hours I was in Cy....I will give you the scenario:

1. Side #1 zergs Side #2 - Side #2 loses to Side #1 due to inferior numbers.
2. Side #2 zergs "Fort Whatever" and takes it in 5 minutes due to number advantage.
3. Rinse and repeat until you are numb of boredom
4. Have a nice day

You would think as heavily as Zenimax promoted this amazing PVP system, it wouldn't be something that was used for the last 10+ years. Hell, DAOC had the same type of system but at least they made it FUN, and how long ago was that released?

It was pretty great in beta - but with the VR thing making all non-VRs useless, and the rest taken up by exploiters/FOTM builds, yeah it's not very much fun right now.

If they fixed the scaling that would help a lot IMO, since I suspect most people avoid PvP due to not wanting to be one-shot instakilled constantly.

If you're not having fun in pvp, well all I can say is find a better group.
Find an organized group in ts3, preferably ones where you have raid leads in each others ts3 and are communicating, and that know what they're doing.

Holding a fort with a 25 man force over a 50+ man force because your group knows what it is doing is extremely satisfying. Same applies when it comes to taking keeps, although with the way the oil pots right now it can be difficult.

Even a 4-5 man group can follow a zerg position itself on the reinforcement side of an enemy keep and have tons of fun picking off stragglers trying to reinforce. PvP could use a little work, bolt escape spam is annoying, Don't really understand why I can shoot someone point blank with a bolt from a ballista and they don't die but oil pots wreck people, still massive lag when in large group combat, but all in all I've been having a huge amount of fun in cyrodiil.

Wow only took 2 comments before the typical troll L2P reply. Instead of blaming the player for not having fun, how about blaming the developer for having a predictable and mind numbing hamster wheel PvP system? I was in 2 very good and very large groups, but I do thank you for your input which does nothing to further this discussion.

im no fan of the pvp in eso, but even I know that you need to spend more than 3 hrs to get a feel for it. like the other guy said, the trick is in your group youre in, find a good one, work together as a team, beat that overwhelming zerg with just a handful team mates then rejoice with them once done. that is what can be fun in cyrod. or avoid the zergs, take your elite v10 arse to the woods and go stealth ganking, 1 vs 1, or small team vs small team. once youve done that and its still stinks then you have a solid view of it

It takes a long time to get a hang of. I'm level 9 in PVP with only a level 38 character, but I'm pretty good. Strategy, oil, siege weapon usage matter. You can defend from large zergs with just a few characters by correctly using oil.

The number you given so I can have a "feel" for it is a moot point. That is like saying stick your finger in this flame and eventually it will feel good to get burned. Ray Charles could see this is a rehashed and reused PVP system that has been around for 10+ years. Mind you, I am not taking Zenimax to task for using it. I am making a point they stood upon their soap box bragging how amazing PVP was, which it clearly is not.

I tend to avoid zergs, get in organized groups with voice chat, and we pose a threat to enemy zergs, and the enemy in general by doing surprise attacks on their transit lines. If I was a troll saying l2p i would have said make a sorc or dk tank, but did I? No. While there are issues that are aggravating, large lag spikes when large groups face each other, your team capping a farm flag when 20 people are in the farm tower so you can't demo it, sorcs bolt escaping halfway across the map, the glitched tower on glademist (think its glade.) Ultimately if you cant find a way to have fun in pvp...then it probably is your fault. It's not my fault if that reply makes you mad when wabbajack has 500+ people in it all the time whom are having fun.

I've done everything from the zergs which are somewhat boring and routine to countergank squads that do small scale pvp. 3v5ing a group is a lot of fun. Like I said pvp does need some issues addressed but overall it is enjoyable.

From beta the pvp was compared to daoc, and PS2 so I'm not sure why you came in expecting something different.

I have no veteran level characters, my highest two are 28 (healer nightblade) and 27 (DK s/s) and even though I know I can never match up to a VR10 1v1, I still love playing my part in bigger groups.

On my healer I can heal just fine, you don't need to be maxed out to be of value to the team. Always keeping an eye out for those in the back on a siege because more often than not the players looking out for stealth siege machine killers would get overpowered by veteran sneakers. I can't count how often I have saved those fellow players and gave them the satisfaction of destroying a stronger player.

On my DK I die a lot, but that is because of the way I play. I like to use my CC to give my team just those few seconds extra to make a push a success. Sure I get destroyed, but it pays off often enough to be fun.

So low level players can be of good enough worth to the rest to make playing as one fun.

Now in regards to the zerg vs zerg and it always being the case that one is much larger and the other has no chance in hell... I have been in some awesome siege attacks and more often defenses in which we thought we were done for, yet survived and managed to kick the enemy out of our keeps.

If you have only encountered fights in which there is a huge imbalance then you have either been extremely unlucky or have not played in Cyrodiil enough. Sure those kind of fights happen far more often than those I mentioned earlier, but that is what makes a successful defense against all odds so extremely fun!

Finding a raid that does not give up when the odds are against them is what makes pvp in Cyrodiil fun for me. If I am in one that cries all the time (surprisingly hardly ever encounter whining raids) then I leave them and join another.

Cyrodiil can be fun and for sure is not as boring as you make it out to be. It has boring moments, frustrating moments, fun moments and freaking exciting moments. Just don't give up too quickly when you join a boring moment.

its so diff now then when the game first went live, i was shocked recently by the empty campaigns and the one I was in that usually dominated has almost zero pop in my faction. I feel sorry for those just entering pvp for the first time now

From beta the pvp was compared to daoc, and PS2 so I'm not sure why you came in expecting something different.

Would like to call you out on your 2 BS points above.

1. I am not mad wabbajack has 500+ people on it at any given time. I wished more of the PVP servers had more people on it. That way the sides would be more even and less chance for the gank / grief squads. Give it a few more months for the top of the bell curve to hit VR10+ and experience PVP and you will wish there was 500+ on at any given time. You will be lucky if you have 100+ on, which at that time will be the l337 gank squads that roll around Cy.
2. I came in expecting PVP to be somewhat different due to all the promotional videos Zenimax had released prior to the game going live pretty much claiming it was the next best thing since sliced bread.

If you do want to hold Zenimax's feet to the fire for what they promised would be fun and a HUGE selling point for the game, then continue to enjoy your mediocrity.

With 50 skill points coming from PVP ranks.... I see more and more going into PVP now. And yes, its normally zerging, but I am see some really good moves by small groups that have wiped out a zerg.

Today was the first day that I logged out of Cyrodiil and genuinely admitted to myself that I was "over it". I kind of wish I cancelled my subscription before the billing cycle.

Having said that, I did it all. I fought against zergs and won, fought and lost, I killed people from stealth and solo hunted, I joined a couple of guilds and became Emperor as a Nightblade using a build that I created myself(though the bulk of my AP was because of oil dumping).

Oh well, I guess it held my interest slightly longer than GW2.

Back to looking though my game library... maybe I'll load up some Rust or Mortal Online.

You make a fellow NB proud but I have to agree. Today is the first day since the 5 day early release that I have absolutely NO desire to log in, and I am quite depressed about it. Why make an ALT whey Zeni rehashed the other 2 pacts in "VR" zones? Just a complete let down.....

I agree 100% on what OP said; it's is pretty much on the money.

If you want any enjoyment other than participating in the zergs, you'll need to find a group to play with where you can coordinate and strike decisively and effectively.

Though that gets old after awhile as well.

Really hoping they add some sort of arena or closed team scenario. IMHO that's the best player vs player environment. Open world serves the chaos, but controlling the environment adds a whole 'nother level. It's like supranatural.

I know what you mean. Don't even get me started on going from Cold Harbour to do 'Put out the Fires' quests and killing my own faction as an enemy faction soldier. I picked Daggerfall because I didn't want to be a Dominion soldier.

It's kind of sad, I see a lot less activity on my guild lists, friend lists, noticing a general trend on the fan sites.

I mean how is THE ELDER SCROLLS ONLINE losing interest so quickly? A month after release? Now I have to waddle back to my internet friend group and hear "Bored of ESO already? I told you so."

It's a damn shame when Tera gets more attention than ESO.

VR10 PvP Level 24 here.

PvP becomes from day to day even more boring. The lack of end game options if you did already everything is a huge disappointment.

TL;DR game is boring and offers nothing new compared to other MMOs.

Objective based PVP leads to zergs and repetitive gameplay, so its not surprising people are bored. ESO has done its best to have "open world PVP" but really its just an imitation. They've given you this whole massive zone to play in, but most gravitate to a couple of specific objectives at a time and ignore the rest of the map.

Gamers needs to learn before developers will. If you want PVP, true open world PVP is the only true PVP. Most gamers dont want that, so you get this stuff instead. Until we can say "yeah it's alright for my gameplay to be interrupted and infringed upon by PVP, its alright if I die to another player, no big deal" then you're going to continue to get contrived PVP systems like this.

To be honest, the majority of the time gamers are the reason why we can have nice games, this is no exception.

Not sure what you want. I like the pvp. It's as close to daoc as I've seen, and the only thing missing so far is better organization. Allowing commanders of the zone would be nice. I await the rest of my guild levelling up so that I have a well run group.

It is close to DAoC pvp only in the beginning. Read SaibotLui`s post. This is the reality. It is not real open world pvp. It is merely a big battle ground where the fights are continuously only around 2-3 objectives the whole time.

I love PvPing in ESO. Every time I go out I have fun, and it doesn't matter if I go out with my 10 NB or VR5 Sorc. The key is getting a group. Once I get one, I have nothing but fun. If you can't find fun in Cyro, sorry, it's you, not the game.

Beta was pretty fun. When everyone was generally on the same playing field. Then it all fell apart.

Cyrodiil should never have allowed PvE veterans. It should have been strictly PvP leveling, using it's own ranks/titles. That would have been great.

On top of that there were exploits after launch, and gimmick classes like the vampire completely off-kilter. Heavy travel times and poorly designed forward encampments. Not a welcoming place for new players.

Cyrodiil is a massive time sink. You run around like a headless chicken for hours, and die in a matter of seconds. Often to gloriously stealth ganks and devastatingly overpowered ranged abilities.

Elder Scrolls PvP is a gong show. Players getting bombed by trebuchets that just stand there, leaping up and down, laughing at you, is not what I consider PvP.

It's too bad we can't fully dictate how people play.

You know what we need is smaller battlegrounds with objectives where we can kick people that just want to up their kill counter

This siege pvp I tell ya, why do people need to create a zerg, is it to feel safe in numbers or something??? so sick of it, we need a 300 style bottle neck where only 1-2 players can get through and defenders can rip them apart

I mean honestly all I see is inc zerg!!! keep defense pst!!! Trash the whole system and give me warsong gulch, arathi basin & arena's with ranking boards

And I also want bigger shoulder armor

Its a new game people! And we are have become a lot more spoiled than back during DAOC days! All new games have lack of content its normal! (lol Tera , most Korean games are out for 1 year+ in Asia before we even get to play them) In order for the game to acquire all those qualities people want it needs to be out for at least over a year! Got to vr10? Great lol now go get pvp rank 50 (lol math says it'll be about 1 year of grinding every day before you get it). Or maybe roll an alt and level it! Basically - wait! The game will get better and will get more content!
